She has alot of charisma for a little old woman that she is in this clip. Where is the time when the truely talented got to the top? Too much plastic everywhere nowadays.
mind you you say she was old i think she was around 41-42 here? i agree she does look really old though.... perhaps it was illness/drink/drugs taking it's toll, bless her
Ce n'est pas en 1963: l'image est celle de l'Olympia 60-61 mais l'enregistrement celui de la création de la Foule à l'Olympia en 1958!!! Joli mélange, mais toujours Edtih!!
"La Foule" What a song! What a voice! What a singer! This is Edith Piaf. Many folks would have never known very much about her if it were not for the movie. Thanks to my wonderful French teacher, I've adored her since 1962. I immediately connected with her art and her music. I wondered if there were any videos showing her performances, and I'm delighted to see that YouTube is full of them. Thanks to everyone for bringing Piaf to me--live and on stage. Merci, mille fois!
@john244innewton Well, probably people here in the United States did not know about her, because in other countries we are more open to international and good music.
Hi, without being rude, it is not my intention, but I'm from Australia and am married to an American and lived many years in the States and I must agree with you 100%, but then it is their great loss.
@Mmmmoaa a lot of ppl dont realize that Piaf 's greatest success outside of France was in the USA. She toured the US several times between 1947 and 1959. She appeared on the Ed Sullivan TV show several times,, as well as on other US TV shows. She also had a triumphant concert at Carnegie Hall. In fact she wanted to tour the US in 1963, but her rapidly declining health made that impossible.
Piaf did'nt sing at Olympia theatre in 1963... she sang at Bobino. That is why that video is wrong dated... moreover she did not sing La Foule on stage in 1963... verify your informations before writing. And I keep saying that her voice and body in that video is dated 1961 not 1963
this is absolutely not in 1963... In 1963 she was singing at Théâtre Bobino and was looking much more ill and tired than she does in that video dated certainely 1961 at Olympia... I remind you that the she died in 1963
what you said...her voice was not nearly so strong in '63. listen to "a quoi ça sert l'amour" which is one of her last songs, and her voice is much lower and less strong on there. in this recording, Piaf was still in her prime.
Piaf did'nt sing at Olympia theatre in 1963... she sang at Bobino. That is why that video is wrong dated... moreover she did not sing La Foule on stage in 1963... verify your informations before writing. And I keep saying that her voice and body in that video is dated 1961 not 1963
Edith sang the last time at the Olympia , 23 Oktober 1962 . About La Foule, the last time taht she sang it on stage was in Holland or in Lyon, both in Decemmber 1962.The voice is lower and the chansons like " Musique à tout va " and "Non,je ne regrette rien" were sang one half-ton down
But, I' ve read in one small biography of Edith (in a small book that I've bought with movie) that her last performance in Olympia was in the beginning of 1963. , just a few months before she died the same year..... So, is that true (??!), now after I've read everything you all have wrote I don't know...., what' s the true ??? And, yes..., on this video she looks to good to me..., I doubt that this is film from 1963. ..., is it ?!? Or maybe this could be the very beginning of 1963. ?
yes that's not 1963.the image is from her Olympia, in fact recorded by the French TV and the Pathé-Actualités, 2 January 1961 but the sound is from 1958
Why is it that you can't watch videos on a wide range of singers from Ginny Arnell to Cliff Richard, to the great Edith Piaf, without having to read comments about Amy Winehouse.
What a phenomenon! How wonderful to see a singer just "Stand and deliver!" No need for smoke, lights, mirror balls, or superfluous dancing. And how artistic, standing in the dark, only the face, lungs, and hands showing....................truly awesome.

La Foule - C'est Juste Une Chanson Merveilleuse,
Et En Regardant L'histoire Si Simple Derrière Cette Chanson
Et En Regardant La Facon D'interprèter Ce-La - Plus De Mots.
Merci De Tout Mon Coeur Pour Cette Merveilleuse Pièce De Musique.

She was a real goddess, Amy Winehouse should be tied to a chair and be forced to watch this movie repeatingly for one week.
