@2wingo Yeah, in aboriginal times the sound of bullroarers were signals for women and children that a religious act was in progress and not to disturb it (women had no rights at all and were just "property", so they weren't allowed to take part in any religious ceremonies). The sound of that, however, was said to be a ghost's voice...
@2wingo hm dunno about that. As far as I know women were just property and only useful to gather shellfishes (and other misc. easy works) and to have a baby. Dunno what those female rituals would've been about if they really existed, sry. (and wether women were that "important" to have their own ceremonies?)
Very good. These were also in the Old South as well with accounts going back into the late 1800's at least. There are references to them in the Foxfire series. I made a few as a kid in the 1970's and a few times since. Really messes with people's heads if they've never heard one before. They are pretty easy to make. Take a rectancular bit of thin wood and make it into a diamond shape. Put a hole near one end and attach a string. Then spin it like in the video.
@sonofthedestroyer I had no idea this was sort of a musical instrument. When I was little, I used to think it was signal of some kind that Dundee was using to attract bats to the camp in that scene. I'd like to get one of these and swing it around late at night sometime in the backyard to spook the neighbors. Haha!!
So, where´s the Ferrari hiding?

Is it true that at one time, women were forbidden to hear the sound of the bull roarer?

Does it always make that sound or is it just louder because of the acoustics in the tunnel?
