i just learned that this story is based on a true story; an inexperienced sled dog named balto was picked to head the 2nd to last leg of a 500 mile dog sled relay to save 100's of children infected with diphtheria. the team struggled through one of the worst alaskan storms imaginable, and ended up having to take even the last leg on there own because the last team never thought they could have weathered the storm... wow
