Most reliable car she's had. She used to have Ford and Chevy prior to that and was looking to get one of the now recalled Toyota Camry cars for her next vehicle. Well, looks like sticking with the old reliable Nissan Maxima was her best move.
6 speed Maxima's are hard to find because those who have them don't want to give them up. I love my 2000 5-speed and I see a few of these on the road. I Love the song in this ad, It comes to mind every time I get in the car.
I thought this car was okay until I traded it in on a 2002 Chrysler 300m Special. The 300m just blows the Maxima out of the water in terms of looks, performance, reliability and general excitement.

I wish I could get a '99. I own an '89 with a shot wheel bearing, bad front axle, worn timing belt and noisy valve lifters. Engine still runs strong, though! I just need to get the steering wobble taken care of... :(

Magog..the 1995 to 1999 maxima's with vq30de engines are indeed one of a kind, but the 2000 and 01 models have serious ongoing issues with the MAF and ignition coils. I sold my 01 and bought an 03(vq35de). This is one of the best cars you will ever drive, no technical issues and it's like a jet on rails and the fuel economy is not bad at all. I strongly advise you to get the 02-03 models instead.
Agreed. I had an '02 SE with the 6 speed manual, you couldn't get that with the '00-'01. It was a really fast car, GREAT BRAKES too. I only got rid of it because I discovered it was in a previous accident and a bad one at that and it wasn't repaired that well (eventaully everything squeeked and rattled in the front) that and I found a great deal on an '06 Mustang GT. Even so, the 6 speed Maxima is worth seeking out, but they can be hard to find.

This Max is by far the worst design out of all the Max's. No wonder it only lasted for three years. That back end of the car looks horrible. Maxima's name was disrespected with this look. Glad the 04' came out to make it respectable.
IMHO this is the best gen max. The 04+ isn't even made in japan and its pretty ugly in my opinion it weighs more too, plus you can't get an lsd in the newer maximas.

You can't even get a 6sp manual with a Max anymore. That's sacrilege to the original 4DSC. I'm glad I bought one of the very last 03 six speeds before they went downhill.
It's because this was the last Maxima made in Japan. The current bigger one is made here in the USA and it's bigger due to the Americans loving bigger cars.
