  • This is at the end of the day, a tramp singing about wine.

  • thsi always touches me innocent, powerfully real.coming from a heart that is stripped bare by poverty, this is why it speaks so loudly to us

  • How can anyone push the "dislike" button?

  • GAVIN BRYARS

    [UK][Only UK Performance This Year]

06 November 2010, 19h30, Kings Place, London, UK

  • thank god that awful tom wait isn't ruining this holy afirmation of faith

  • Jesus said blessed are the poor, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Jesus blood never fails, for those who suffer, God is with them, when I was homeless, God protected me, and kept me safe, his blood never failed me. I know that man is in heaven.

  • So moving........

  • he died

  • C'est toujours aussi beau. Santé

  • hauntingly beautiful... surely he must be with our Lord...

  • may him go to heaven

  • Hope his little soul's n heaven. Beautiful.

  • he was a homeless man sleeping in a run down train station. gavin bryers heard him singing this melody and decided to record him. when he tried to look for him again for his name, he couldnt find him and never saw him again.

  • @boru1982 This is such a moving piece of music. Wouldn't it be such a tribute to the memory of this old man if someone recorded it for the christmas market. It is too late this year but if someone produced it for next year and unashamedly tugged at the hearts of all caring people then there is the chance that some good could come out of it in the sales of the recording for the homeless here in Britain or indeed anywhere.

  • @seekyefirst I dont get adults that believe in fairytales, but this is trippy music anyway.

  • @sikapena Does it touch you?

  • I first heard it in the 80s on WNYC radio in New York, on a show called "New Sounds" hosted by John Schaefer. It was one of the most requested pieces of that period.

  • I think I heard it a few years ago on BBC Radio3's Late Junction - I was just blown away. I know it's not a long clip, but thanks for using the version without added Tom Waits - I love TW, but really prefer this version.

  • heard this first on robert elms on bbc london haunting
