What did I get out of that? His plug on a book & that he might use waves? I'm sure the book & session is great but I really can't imagine an engineer of that caliber really mastering hits in the box when he can afford the best outboard gear ever made! Waves are great... but I'd rather save my bone's for outboard gear (IMHO), especially because waves are so expensive & there just not quite there yet.
I dont really think Waves is that expensive anymore - like the MPX Mastertape for $99 is fantastic. Not every Plugin from Waves is "Studio Quality" but many are fantastic. The API Equalizer sounds fantastic, the V Series Eq's & Compressor sound as good as expensive Outboard Gear or the Aphex Aural Exciter Plugin - I personally hardly use any of my Outboard Gear for mastering anymore...except my Mixer,Monitors and Outboard Audio Interface.
@WillSnyderMusic monitors go from 150$ all the way to thousands i bet those are quite expensive,i got a pair of berihngher MS40 for 100$ on sale...they do the job for ahome recording studio aka my room lol
I think one very important step is having a calibrated room. Home studio or even some "professional studio" mixes are dramatically different when played back in a well calibrated room.
If you compress before gating, you're going to make like difficult for the gate as compressing will bring up the background noise and there will be more chance of the background noise triggering the threshold of the gate.
Another really easy trick I use is: if your artist likes to have one ear open and one ear phoned, pan the headphone aux to whatever ear they'll be using and you won't get bleed from the side not being used. No need for gating.
Yes it does look like a complete set up, though I can't tell what you are using as nothing indicates that you are using pro tools. Anyway, is your board only a control surface or is it a console? Do you use external mic pre-amps? Do you know when pro tools 8 is coming out? Thanks.
Yes it is very stable. It was 100% stable for me since it was released. Havent had any problems and haven't download updates or anything. I am now able to use the MBox with other software now! They fixed the ASIO drivers. everything is much better

Quick question. If on one of the tracks your get headphone bleed, would you rather gate and then compress or compress then gate and why? Thanks.

What interface are you using? Is your board a console and a controller or just a controller?
zamil25 3 years ago
looks like a complete pro-tools set-up.
