I drove in st.louis from the late 1970's through 2008. I drove this section of highway for years. It is a fun section with sweeping curves and high speeds.
Looks like the people in St. Louis are St. Lunatics for their aggressive driving on that narrow freeway. No one used any signals while switching lanes. Driving is not a right its a privilege.
@TheRealconception I grew up in St Louis and nobody uses signals when they change lanes there because the other drivers will speed up and not let you in. It's true! Makes me crazy when I drive there now!
@TheRealconception Bullshit. You don't know aggressive driving until you've lived here in South Florida. Not only will they try to run you off the road...they'll hit your car, and then keep going! Most, NEVER use signals...& they drive way OVER the speed limit or way too SLOW under speed limit. Fort Lauderdale is bad, & Miami was voted the #1 City in the Country with the WORST DRIVERS. I live in SoFla, but born & raised in STL and I know who's worst. STL peeps are not really unlucky after all.
@jbmorr03 I like and find them both interesting. I may have yo give Cincinnati the slight edge because it has more of an interesting terrain, especially on the Kentucky side.
@FreewayBrent Thank you for your kind remarks. While I was initial believer that the new Busch was overblown and the money could have been better spent, I have come to recognize it as the jewel for downtown as it is. The day I first knew Cards fans were something else was in 1985 ( the year we were cheated ), our fans cheered a exceptional infield put out by a Cubs 2nd baseman. We cheered our hated rivals, that was enough to make be believe.
@Ayrlie Great local knowledge! Are you a long time r
Both Boston and St. Louis have baseball traditions that few other teams have. Having baseball in your bloodlines makes you a respectful student of the game.
Jim, my pleasure indeed. Your comment about Cardinals fans was very kind, and true in my heart. It's a tradition shared among generations here. Please do check out our zoo. It is probably the best completely free attraction in this country, at least in my opinion.
@mizzouluvr I'm a Red Sox fan who has great respect for the Cards, went to a game at Busch in 2007, great fans, very knowledgeable., I saw more people keeping score around me than I ever have at one game.
@mizzouluvr: I'm not sure whether to direct this to Jim or Mizzouluvr, but my thoughts. Cardinals fans are truly passionate about their team. I was able to visit the new Busch Stadium, just a few months after it opened, and I must say, the fans stay and cheer that team on from first pitch until the very last out. That's a great stadium you guys have, too.
Jim, can't thank you enough for showing off my hometown as well as you have. Yes, the 2007-09 40/64 rebuild was our pet project. I lived 1 mile south of the 40/64 & McKnight intersection.
@mizzouluvr You're welcome, I enjoyed my short time in St. Louis, it's an interesting city and there's more I'd like to explore there. Stay tuned, I have a few more STL videos on the way.
Awesome work Jim. Its great to see you in places Ive been for once lol. And yeah that freeway is fun to drive. Its not to straight and has a lot of gentile hills that other states would have just smoothed over. Excellent engineering and a great video to show it. Thumbs up!
Great choice for the music! I've always liked that song. I love the new, rehabilitated section of 64 you showcased. The names of the streets on the bridges were a nice touch by the DOT. Like you said, it looks like a lot of fun to drive, but it appears that the lanes are a little too tight. Is that the case? You don't release anything short of great, so saying "great video" is quickly becoming a trite expression. haha
@CosmoPhotography Thanks! You know that's a darn good question regarding the lanes, being so used to the 11 foot wide lanes in Metro Atlanta I might not have noticed if these were "tight" or not, these may have very well been.
I really have a blast with good old songs from the 60s, 70s and of course the 80s blaring from my speakers on my trips! They did a stupendous job refurbishing and upgrading the interstate section in St. Louis. It looks really nice and fun to drive!
Such easy going freeways these are! 4 lanes wide, big ramps... how much traffic do these handle? Judging from what I just saw I'd imagine quite a bit!
Nice video; interesting choice of music, and a VERY interesting freeway. By looking at the video alone that I-64 redo is already one of my favorites. Can't wait to check it out myself some time!
Great video! This was my favorite stretch of freeway to drive when I lived in St. Louis, and this is the first time i"ve seen it since the upgrades. The drive eastbound on this stretch is even better IMO, because you get an extended view of the St. Louis skyline.
Awesome! Yes, I agree, MoDOT did a wonderful job at reconstructing I-64. It was great to see this in the westbound direction, with Luke having filmed the eastbound ride. Never did see I-64 out on the Illinois side of the state line either. Ya know, I'm surprised MoDOT even had the Missouri side signed as I-64, considering how antiquated it was. Figured they would have just ended the I-64 designation at I-55/I-70 around downtown St. Louis.
@FreewayBrent its still heavily referred as Highway 40. The locals simply blew MoDOT off back in 1987 when they got their approval. I remember growing up when Highway 40 was Highway 40 and I-64 ended at 55/70. The old Highway 40 had black guide signs, no exit numbers, and those tight ramps.
@Ayrlie: Yeah, that was the impression I got when I was there in 2006. I remember hearing a traffic report about an accident on "Highway 40"...thought it was interesting that the traffic reporter referred to it as Highway 40, and not I-64.
that was a sweet little video there. kinda made me felt like the old days on grand theft auto due to the music. the 64 expansion is exceptional. thumbs up for sure.
Make that 11 time world champions.
