  • such a classy song lol

  • amazing song !!! and anime ....

  • Yeap, great song.

If anyone is interested in similiar type of anime, check Kaiji. He's voiced by the same guy as Akagi.

  • the response relating this more to ten!akagi is spot on, but it works just as well for the series because the spectre of ten hangs over it: for everything that happens in akagi, akagi himself is destined to become something so free and so beautiful in the end.

  • I couldn't think of better gambler's song. You'll keep saying to yourself "It's going to be alright- oh please let it be alright..." after every dice roll. And no matter how you try to look tough, it'll always end with just your wistful prayers. The fact that the lyrics repeat themselves helps to drive that point home, I think. It's pretty genius: it represents the human insanity, which is doing the same thing and expecting different results. But, as Furuido shows us- it'll always ends the same.

  • j'adore j'adore j'adore :))

  • Kanji lyrics for those who want 'em: やせがまんばかりで .... もう半年過ぎたが ....何が変ったか ....誰を愛したか ....頭の中で今夢がくずれだした ....何とかなれ .... .... ....やぶれかぶればかりで ....もう半年過ぎたが ....何が変ったか ....誰を愛せたか ....頭の中で今夢がくずれだした .... ....何とかなれ、何とかなれ

  • Akagi is God Boy

  • I like Akagi! Very Very Good

  • sounds like knocking on heavens door!

  • Furuido is fine. But English translation in this clip seems incorrect. "Nantoka nare" is the imperative mood. So it can't be "Somehow I'll be fine", but it should be translated as, for example, "Let my fortune be better!".

  • @suzu639 You're right -- なんとかなれ!! is more of a desperate plea, "make it work out!", or with some embellishment on my part, "please just let this work out okay!!"

  • kaiji is a fucking pussy, akagi FTW

  • @Rokomorro0A I find Kaiji interesting in a different way that I find Akagi interesting.

  • @Rokomorro0A Kaiji might be a failure in a lot of things he does, but he's not a pussy.

  • looks like Gin ichimaru.............

  • @SanjiCooking Dont you even compare Akagi to that shit character from a horrible show. Akagi is above all big 3.

  • @jaakkopoika1 Totally agree. They didn't bet blood for money just wanting the thrill of bringing down another human being while risking losing his own life.

    All sissies I say.

  • I just LOVE IT!!!

  • Reminds me of the somewhat softer, older Akagi in Ten. Anyone else agree?

  • @LouieDeNonno

Ten is too obnoxious for me to be honest, it feels like Dragon Ball and Mahjong had a kid out of wedlock. But I'll read it where Akagi shows up so I can see how he deals with that cheating bastard Ten.

  • @Anontalkwarrior I didn't like Ten at first either, but once you get past the first two volumes (I believe Akagi shows up in the second one, if you're wondering) it gets really good. It's unusually shounen-ish early on because Fukumoto likely didn't know what to do with it, but after a while it's just as good and psychological as Akagi. And the ending will make you shed manly tears.

  • @LouieDeNonno

If you say so, you sound unbiased, so I'll take your word for it broski.

  • This automatically reminded me of Pink Floyd - Wish you were here

  • Kinda rips off Lynyrd Skynyrd's Simple man but good song.

  • @PenisuGensou This song came out in 72, 1 year before "Simple Man" and 3 years before "The Wall".

  • @jweezyf0sheezy1 cool trivia. Isn't it nice for animes to use songs from decades ago

  • Love the first half of it, but when he starts repeating himself over and over, kinda ruins it for me. Realise without it, would lose a lot of emotion. Fortunately I am a robot, so I would prefer another verse or some shit.

  • One of the most memorable songs in anime.

  • これスゲー好き

  • \o again

I also liked deathnote and noir.

There is a new series in motion out there now imo, which i assume is of the same origin as Akagi. The full name is Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji Hakairoku Hen.

I simply love it, as far as cruel life explanation goes :)

    -peace

  • @DarkRezo Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji Hakairoku Hen is a second season of Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor and Akagi & Kaiji are from same mangaka

  • @DarkRezo You know Gyakkyou Burai Kaiji Hakairoku Hen is the second season to the show Kaiji right?

  • whats the meaning of this song?

  • ANIME LOVERS click my name for ANIME TALK and discussion and what not!

  • 赤木ならなんとかしてくれる気しかしない件

  • @micro88159

    そうですね(^^)彼ほどの実力者なら、確実に何とかしてくれる気がしますね。

  • 3 washizu

  • 何とかなれ~

  • This is the kind of message that is the opposite of the one in Kaiji. "Somehow, it'll all work out"? That way of thinking is why you're still a loser.

  • @GabeMorris I think that's why this song ends abruptly with gunshot-like sound coming from akagi's 1 pin, basically Akagi saying "In your dreams, idiot."

  • the 2 people who disliked this were justin bieber

  • @MeteorArmageddon What have you done? Don't try to give Bieber the power of two men, god dammit!

  • Sometimes when I leave the room I shout Nantokanare! at whoever's still there and slam the door, run away.

  • All of fukumoto's works are psychological thrillers somewhat. Recently read Buraiden Gai and the protagonist is gutsy as hell. Made me think of the Winston Churchill quote "If you're going to through, keep going". Difference is Akagi is at home being the emperor of the japanese gambling underbelly.

  • Yeah, i don't even play Majhong and this show was still kickass

  • now i want a japanese mahjong set because of akagi! hell the show teaches you how to play mahjong(albeit with the japanese ruleset)

  • this amazing anime made me creating my own mahjong game out of wood, clear lacquer and permanent markers xD, this anime is so awesome!!

  • on episode 4

too bad i dont know mahjong .

even without knowing the rules it is still awesome. if i knew how to play mahjong , it would probably be 10*more epic

  • @YESobamaCANfuckupUSA i feel the same way lol

  • is this anime similar or even better than kaiji?

  • @akiliase yes, very similar (and by the same guy). you may find it a little hard to follow if you don't know the rules of mahjong though, but if you liked kaiju, you'll like this.

  • @akiliase havent seen kaiji yet but its definately similar or better

  • beggining reminds me of free bird....somehow it does....wierd

  • this balade has no equals, all my previously loved english balades just sound silly after this. just emotion that flaws in this song is amazing.

  • Love singing this loudly when my roommates aren't home~ Haha.

  • In all honesty, this anime is atleast in my top 10 which is splendid considering that I have seen over 500 anime series!

One of the best psychological animes, and in all honesty, it was sort of a ''thriller'' cause of all the moments, when he was close to death and you never knew what he was gonna do .. That aspect of the show remained even AFTER watching it for tons and tons of times..

Too bad the anime ended without the final ''battle'' really ending.. -.-

  • @geenius3ab Wouldn't exactly call it a thriller. We know he never loses from the very start of the show. He's introduced as unbeatable. Plus it's a prequel to Ten, in which Akagi is described as an undefeated mahjong god.

  • @rthompson39 Actually for me it was a thriller cause you never knew HOW and WHAT he would do when his life was on the line.. It was a Thriller cause I lived ''into'' the anime.. And i friggin loved it, ^^

  • @rthompson39 what do you mean it's a prequel to "ten"?

  • @HNCS2006 Ten was the series Fukumoto wrote before Akagi. In Ten Akagi is one of the main characters and he's an old man that's basically the god of mahjong. Akagi is the prequel that shows how he became a mahjong legend.

  • この曲を聴くと、麻雀を打ちたくなってきます。

    人間、生きていること自体が博打です。

    (*^-^)ノ囗囗囗圄圄圄

  • for some reason the starting makes me think of simple man by lynyrd skynyrd

  • the opening for Akagi is like the ending theme for Kaiji and vice versa

  • this song makes me lean back, watch all ive done in my life, and let one tear down for all ive done wrong in my life, and continue living like a true human being.

  • yeah i love this anime, i just wish the artist didnt do the noses/profiles so weird. the story and action and all that was totally awesome but i couldnt get over the weird art style.

  • after pin smacking....then i saw a figure of man face after being punched by fist....

  • san toka mare------------------*smack*

  • feels bad man but i've got to say my mahjong has gotten better

  • Really, really good song that emits very soothing and relaxed feeling : ). Sounds quite a bit like Lynyrd Skynyrds Free bird, though : D

  • NANTOKOOOOO NAREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • why do I feel like having a bottle of whisky when I hear this song

  • just an awesome song and cartoon

  • やるせなさがイイ。

  • Kaijis opening theme is much better

  • @marclarell Depends on your taste. I prefer folk to rock so I think this is better. Still have to admit the Kaiji OP is kick ass though.

  • fuck yeah!11

  • One Justin Bieber fan must have wandered and mistakingly listened to this pearl of a song

  • @Hashashasheen And not a single dislike since then! Goes to show how epic this song is.

  • NANTOKANARE

  • Is there a link to download the mp3 of this song?

  • This anime made me buy a Mahjong set and Ron With a Yaku Pai Triple Dora against my brother! :D

  • いい曲だ・・・

  • that's cool song!

  • Thanks for posting the full version! Were does the image of the video come from? it's really great. Is it original art from the anime, or is it a fanart?

  • この歌が好きです。

  • great anime

  • I like Kaiji more than Akagi.

  • Anyone know who did the image?

  • Is the translation off?

  • Yeah, actually it is.

  • @m1SeRY91 I'm open to suggestions.

  • I could listen to this all day. Actually it's a matter of fact I can't get enough of Fukumoto's stuff. it's just too amazing to be true, but it is

  • This almost feels like listening to Bob Dylan but in Japanese. I love it.

  • @darken510 Except for the fact that this guy can sing, and Bob Dylan can't.

  • I love the song's and I love this show

  • everytime I hear the singer say "nantoko nare" I see akagi slamming down that 1 pin on the table to mute the sound.

  • @Slagdar WHERE IS MY EEEE PEEEEEEN

  • @Slagdar hahahahahha same here

  • @Slagdar hahahahaha same here

  • perfect :]

  • Splendid song and it fits the anime too.

  • Aye, wonderful song indeed

  • Wonderful song...:)

  • Is it me or Japenese artists can make anything out as an anime? I recently watched Yakitate Ja-pan, which is the story of a boy named Kazuma Azuma who dream of one day creating a bread that would represent the Japan country. Sounds boring? Well, forget that, it's totaly awesome. It makes bread-making look incredibly great, epic even. They make bread-making as entertaining as a Kung-Fu fighting scene. I'm not kidding. Of course, it has to be the kind of anime you like.

  • I was thinking the same thing when I watched Kaiji, they make the most seemingly mundane gambling games (Rock paper scissors in the first arc) and make it into a crazy edge of your seat drama that's really entertaining exciting to watch.

  • aaaah this anime is quite interesting, just saw 4 eps of it, I play better mahjong with it, cuz it shows you the way you must think xDDD

  • A quintessential Sad Man song.

  • greatest psychological anime i've seen, it far surpasses monster or Noir imo.

And this song is just awesome cool, laid back, single handedly made, perfect.

    nantokanare !

  • agreed, if you liked akagi you should watch one outs and kaiji, both by the same wirter and they both rock, idk if they beat akagi though xD

  • @DarkRezo I think you'll like One Outs

  • @DarkRezo its really good but i still like death note psychological stuff better

  • the anime is fuckwin

  • Thus far I've enjoyed Akagi more than Kaiji.

  • I've enjoyed both ^^ and this song is awesome thanks ;)

  • akagi is 10x times better than kaiji, I love both though

  • ive just learned bymy ears the fine guitar picking :) pretty easy it goes in A and easy pentagons

  • Always enduring it out of pride~

  • anyone have this song?

  • anyone know where i can get a bass tab for this song? it seems a major part of this song, and i would love to be able to play this

  • try bassmasta, com or ultimate-guitar,com they got tons of tabs

  • This f'n song is kick ass. So unexpected for an anime like this.

  • Umm a question, who is singing and what is the song called ??

  • The song is Nantoka Nare, and Furuido is the artist ;)

  • this is a great song i have it on my ipod and it goes well with akagi

  • Thank you, I love this song so much.
