They hate writing because it requires too much thinking. God, just good old fashioned honesty. Try writing about writing or thinking about thinking or writing about writing while trying to think about what you're going to write. Or even worse, try writing about the impossibility of writing! And yes, these subjects do exist!

I believe that most students can agree that the preparation and time that it takes to write an essay is what makes students hate writing. The gathering of thoughts and ideas is another reason for their hatred of writing.

I don't hate writing. I enjoy it. Occasionally, I usally just have a problem with the subject we are instructed to write about. If I can't relate to a certain topic or subject, then the resentment towards writing begins. When I'm given an unrelateable topic it forces me to migrate out of my comfort zone and thats what I hate, not the writing.

I think writing in school is not as bad as students make it! If they say they love it, then they will!!! Their mind is playing tricks on them!! They have trained their mind that writing is dumb and that's why they feel that way. Students look to hard at the situation. It's not that serious!! Writing is fun!

some of the points in this video i agree with i believe i can write better if its something i am intrested in! although i believe that wriiting will benefit me and my communication and vocabulary i dont like to write. i think im pretty good at writting and the only thing that frustrates me is MLA form. it should be about the content of the essay and not the look or format of it...... i REALLY liked this video im not a rock type of music person but it went good i liked it a lot!

Writing for me depends on what im writing about and for. Writing for a specific topic that i have no feeling for or really doesnt have a point i hate and dont enjoy. I mainly do all my writing at the last minute because like the percentages say i think that im not a good writer. I dont think there was ever just one thing that made me hate writing, to me its just not my strongest subjects comparied the others.

I enjoyed the video mainly because they were saying how i felt about writing too.

So far this year's assignments have been my best experience because i have been able to lok back and reflect on what i have accomplished in my past having to do with litereacies.

I don' hate writing for school, but it does get stressful when i have to so so much of it for many different classes and i feel as if the deadlines are too soon. I like to relate what i need to write about to my own personal life, and this can also help those who hate writing. If you don't like the subject then try to base it on something to do with your life so you can become more interested in it.

I think the toughest part of writing at the university level is caring about your topic. Assign me a paper that I can relate to one of my interests, I can knock out 5-6 pages in no time. Conversely, if I can't get an angle on the topic or if I find it boring, it becomes sheer agony to meet the minimum page requirements.

Very well produced video. Writing for school can be a tedious process for most students. If I can get an outline of what I want to write, I find that it goes a lot smoother then just sitting and staring at a blank screen. If students could find a way to connect with the subject it could make it less painful.

I liked the video. I usually have trouble writing because it is generally inconvenient. When I do write for school, I must isolate myself from my normal word. Writing about a subject I am studying gives me a much greater understanding and appreciation for that subject. I may not enjoy it, and the pressure will be intense. But in the end, it is always worth the trouble. Writing isn't going to kill anyone. It just makes you smarter.

Although I agree with the majority of the comments made in the video, I try not to complain too much because I knew what I was getting into when I decided to go to college. Not all assignments are going to be fulfilling and exciting, and yes, some are practically painful. I just write them and move on because as an Eng major I have many ahead of me!

I think writing in school is so dreadful because you actually get a deadline, and when you don't know how to start the paper and the deadline is coming very soon, you get really stressed out. The times when I'm motivated to write is when I know I can write about the topic because I like the topic and I'm excited to see what the outcome will be. A solution for I-hate-writers can be when they are sitting down to write, get focused and get rid of the distractions; like music, kids, and cellphones.

I like how you feature real people who write and who have written and who still struggle with writing. And I liked the incorporation of Johnson's material. Don't you all think that if we can understand students' hatred of writing, we can better address it as we teach writing? Just considering the info presented here prepares us to think differently about our students and ways to help them overcome their affective barriers. Nice.

Yeah, I agree that students hate writing... I, on the other hand, am a writer... creatively speaking. When my assignments call for writing, I get excited because I'm confident with my writing capabilities.
