I can tell you where to get the sheet music for this. Search "Passionate Saffron cave story themes" on Youtube without the quotations, the video should be the first hit and in the description to the video there's a link to a zipfile with sheet music to this song including other ones and WMA files to the songs. I tried it and the link works fine.

They're a bit harder to get by now normally, because the artist doesn't actually have them on their own site. Just the mp3s of the songs.

Also, Cave Story is more of a linear experience, whilst metroidvanias typically have multiple areas that become accessible as you unlock new items. Yet again, Cave Story does not have this.
