At the very very end, did he say something about the WIlliam Seroyan Theatre in Fresno? Because I went to see his show on Halloween night that! It was awesome.
Bill has the facts down. I received a book for Christmas from a close friend Titled "The Psychedelic Explorers Guide" By James Fadiman, Ph.D. In a more technical way of describing, he proves this is so.
My friend also bookmarked areas w/ 30 hits of pure LSD-25. If you understand LSD, you'll understand that I gave them back to him because I've graduated! He totally respected that I don't need to dose anymore. I love it, Like Ken Kesey & others, I'm enjoying the knowledge I've gained from it.
I like Bill, but this correlation between drugs and creativity seems fallacious to me. Two of the most innovative rock musicians of the 60-70s didn't do drugs and actually spoke ill of it: Ian Anderson and Frank Zappa.
The Beatles did drugs, but not while working, and the guy responsible for creating the psychedelic arrangements in Sgt. Pepper (George Martin) never did.
The fact is that most people were doing it, some of them were morons and some were geniuses.
@666Tomato666 Not exactly. He's implying that drugs had an important role in the creativity of these people. I don't think that can really be said, because most people were doing it.
But I do think that the fact that Steve Jobs did LSD makes the"brain on drugs" ad look dumb as hell.
@Koryo8 You wouldn't have home computing, the GUI, or laptops in general, because computer engineer, Douglas Engelbart, conceptualized all that stuff from acid trips as well.
I wish Maher didn't compare Mushrooms to LSD. LSD destroys the brain significantly, and can turn you into a slurring idiot when used over time. Mushrooms does not cause the same damage. There is no correlation to LSD and improved creative ability, and although artists tend to use drugs more, it many times is an effort to self medicate. Artists who use "safe" drugs such as shrooms or marijuana are just as creative as LSD using artists. My friend used LSD a lot and is still recovering.
@rochelle1088 Please don't make broad statements based on the anecdotal evidence of one of your friends. That sucks for your friend, but it's hardly a representative example.
That's interesting, both of them are psychedelic tryptamines, they work quite similarly. Personally, I find LSD safer, but as I came to see this varies for different people and I respect those differences.
I think you could use some open-mindedness that Maher speaks about ;d
this is a fine speech only I've never liked the way people in stand-up and such say The Beatles made albums ''on Acid''. The Beatles never deliberately took Acid in the studio. There was an influence certainly, and it was a way of libertaing the imagination to encourage the creative endeavours, but they never recorded any song on Acid. at best they smoked Cannabis on their break in the canteen or in the echo room at Abbey Road.
@StrummingSparrow calm down calm down its just words man... Lennon was an apostle of LSD - even years after he himself stopped doing it. And I'd agree- they didn't "record" on acid.. They wrote & composed on it (John & George anyway)
@ksqmusic yeah I hope I didn't sound too uptight. I'd have to go on a song by song count of Rubber Soul and Revolver onward to respond properly. Ringo said: ''whenever we overdid our intake, the music we did would be absolutely shit, we'd be all into the tape when we recording and then we'd listen back the next day and it's be like ''we have to that again'', see it didn't The Beatles to be too deranged when making music.''what counted as overdoing it though?lol.it'swhat u take from it.
@StrummingSparrow - John was certainly on acid in the studio sessions for Sgt Pepper, as recounted by George Martin & John. Paul admitted on the national news at the time that he was using acid. George Harrison & Ringo recalled many times previous to Sgt Pepper that they were using acid, if not in the studio.
@unquietnights ahh but John took Acid it accidently in the studio. He was freaked out by it because he had confused with 'Uppers' he had. George Martin took him up to the roof for fresh air. I never denied them using Acid or anything else, just that the album itself was not recorded while tripping. It was a huge influence though.
@StrummingSparrow Taking acid Directly in the studio would suck. You have to be on point and focused. Im sure they made the songs pre-studio on acid... and thats what really matters.
@Biggestmutemathfan only a limited number of songs of theirs were partially written under the influence of LSD like George Harrisons 'It's All too Much'. Weed was the liberator really. Still the LSD made them reflect on and create ideas for songs and was all part of that conciousness.
@GoodBlackMusic He is not really saying the LSD was responsible for his success, but the LSD did not inhibit it. The drug opens your mind, thus allowing you to think outside of the box. I've never tried it personally, due to all the pseudo blotters drug dealers try to pass off as LSD, but love the idea.
... Of course he's exaggerating- thats the whole point of his comedy style: to parody in a satirical manner & exaggerate to make a point! The central idea here is to have the CHOICE & LIBERTY to do what you want as long as it doesnt affect anybody else. Adding to that, not everything on the topic drugs is as bad as its made out to be by the govmnt. Maybe (or maybe not) with LSD- that requires a calculated and informed decision about costs and health effects. Definitely however, with Marijuana!
WHO ARE U TO JUDGE--HIGH D.E.A....BYE D.E.A ????..peace to the people who listen to Jimi Hendrix and realize that we all can be unsyncrizzed and realize what is Good Music is Good Times and Bad Music is .....on purpose ? most people's idea of drugs is purely a misconception. just freaking eat some magic mushrooms and judge it. it damages your brain? there is no proof but it is a fact that alcohol and cigarettes kill your brain cells. people have bad trips because lsd amplifies your bad thoughts, as long as you stay positive and in a good environment it will upgrades(literally) your mind. about flashbacks, i wish i had that experience. that would be a free trip!! lol

I agree with quite a bit of what Bill is saying, but Crick did not discover the structure of DNA while on acid. There is no evidence to support that claim. Crick did experiment with acid during a different period in his life, but Bill is doing nothing more than spreading a false rumor.
@burgerkingmurders I've looked into this quite a bit and I've never read anything from a reliable source that said Crick was high on LSD when he conceptualized the double helix structure. Usually just pro-drug legalization message boards and websites that say this. If you have a reliable source that quotes Crick saying that he was high when making the discovery, I'd love to see it.
@codizable People need to stop being retarded and get their heads out of their asses. LSD, mushrooms, mescaline, and marijuana are evolving our brains, not destroying them. The elite who control us know this, and that is why they made it illegal. If we evolved ourselves, we would never let them pull the shit they get away with!
