Man Vs. Wild, Bear Grylls is *NOT* a Phony 5 (Season 5)

Bear Grylls is just for show, if I ever got stuck somewhere in the wild, I would never follow Bears instructions, cause Ive got a feeling they would get me killed faster, I mean look at him, he's risking injury every 5 minutes, and if you are injured in the wild you are going to be dead. Les is better (in my opinion, at least) because he takes it slow and sure, not like bear who acts like he's under machinegun fire all the time.

It's not like he was the youngest brit to climb to the summit of Everest, OR led a sailing crew into the arctic circle, OR was nearly killed the Special Forces when his chute didn't deploy correctly. Oh... These were all in the 90's before Man vs Wild even existed. Is that "just for show?" Lol. Bear now risks his life to teach you how to make it through extremely dangerous and life threatening situations. I honestly don't think les has the balls to do half of that shit.

@rockettransam911 Now, I am not saying he's not agile, or strong or dependable, after all, SAS isn't something you easily get into, but survival in the wild is something different, I mean, he gets wet in every episode, everywhere he goes he runs like a maniac when he should stay put and conserve energy, etc.

And also, survival has nothing to do with balls. Back in the stone age people who "had balls" died because, oh, I don't know, they did reckless stuff like Bear does, got injured and died.

@FireRunner905 While I agree he runs around and gets wet, that type of thing is to show how to deal with water, and rugged terrain, he uses weight distributing techniques to travel farther, faster and while using less energy. It actually it does have something to do with having balls, he puts himself into life threatening situations on purpose, solely for getting himself out of them, and to teach others how to do so. I know couldn't do that lol. He's more than qualified in my eyes.

@rockettransam911 I know Bear puts himself on PURPOSE in dangerous situations to show you how to get out, thats not "survival" thats "how to get out of tricky situations". "Survival" is "don't get into tricky situations in the first place". Les recreates realistic scenarios like "Your car broke down in a desert, heres what you do until somebody realizes you're missing:" While Bear is "You're in a swamp , travel 40 miles to nearest city while eating worms along the way" Now, whats more plausible?

@FireRunner905 Yeah, both shows together cover different aspects, bear pre-plans the situations he'll be in, to teach you how to survive, and over the course of those "40 miles" he'll show what you how to survive in several types of environments. Les isn't "surviving" either. They're both demonstrating the same thing in very similar ways. I just believe Bear deserves more respect for going the extra mile.. They are almost identical shows, Bear is more qualified, and more dedicated in my eyes.

@rockettransam911 Well, he's younger, faster, stronger, more agile and was in the SAS. Les is a musician lol, but thats the whole point, when somebody is lost in the wilderness they usually don't have military training and haven't climbed Mt Everest, so they wouldn't be able to do the things Bear does (example; in one episode he swung from a vine with such force that he collided with a cliff). So I do think Bear is more qualified, but if I got lost somewhere, I'll take Les' advices any day.

I remember an episoode where he almost fell in a well and his crew had to help him out or he was screwed, Atleast with survivorman he has nobody there to help him.... Okay to clear this up for a lot of people. Both Survivorman and Bear Grylls are not fake. Survivorman is more about an average person can survive in a situation. Bear Grylls is more for publicity and stunts and taking risks to impress his audience (especially the newest season). Survivorman does the filiming by himself while Bear Grylls has help from his camera crew to insure certain safety regulations and may help him out. His stunts, though, are legit. So stop acting like children and fighting

I like both shows. I like Man vs. Wild a little more because it's more entertaining but more exaggerated. I appreciate what Les Stroud does in each show and he's definitely more legit. But I like both shows.

Bear you a big phony!!! Being from South Dakota I know in this episode he gets dropped of about 5 miles from Mount Rushmore. You know if he would have stumbled upon 4 human faces carved on the side of a mountain he may have found it to be "a good sign that civilization may be near by" like one of the most visited tourist attractions in the United States. Oh and the water hole he jumps in is a local swimming stop, so close to a road that you can hear cars driving by.

ya Grylls is the best! he doesn't actually stay out there like Les, he spends his nights in hotels on beach resorts. Grylls is so great the network forced his show to metion it was a dramatization of survival and not the real thing.

He has a family you know and its only right that he has safety on hand if he ever needs it sure he may get help now and then but what you see him do is the real thing he eats all that stuff and he knows what hes talking about, hes well educated. Survivorman is boring. Just boring. Why stay out in a dangerous place at night if you're not even filming any footage in the night? The motel was for his crew... he has a camera crew with him, it takes balls to do what he does and i admire him for that.
