I also have this game on VHS. I'll upload it as soon as i get a vcr. My run's on the ntsc version and is in the 6hr mode ( as a kid i loved the way the music would slow down when you put it in Xp)

Somethings wrong with the time... when Video starts at 0:00, 25 seconds just passed in Scrap Brain Zone Act 2. When you finish Act 2 at 1:40, the games counter shows 1:40 as well o.o

Firstly there are a few loading areas where i go through the tunnels. Game time doesn't progress at these points. Also this is the PAL version of the game which is 17.6% (or something like that) slower than that NTSC version. The programmers didn't do anything to the game just slowed it down so the timer will also get effected by this slow down.

<3 my master system ... sonic was one of the greatest games! I finished it again a while back on an emulator.. but not as fast as this! Never found the last emerald either, how are you supposed to know it's there ;/ Great run! Music in the scrap levels always made my head spin, too.

I always knew about the last emerald when I was young it was the second one that got me. I colud see it but I had no idea that you had to stand on the bridge and drop down to get it! Took me years to work that one out!

Really enjoyed watching this video. SMS Sonic 1 was my favourite game as a kid, I used to play it over and over again, the main reason was because I was hooked on the end tune.

Awesome! That takes me back to when I was 6 years old playing my first ever console game. If I was a girl I'd probably cry right about now lol.

Its a really splendid video, I especially liked the tension you brought to the underwater levels leaving the air bubbles to the very last split second!

I also always found it funny that Sonic couldn't outrun the Dr, just before the end of Act 3.

do you actually always get the rings in the end of the last level?

On every single level if you don't pick up 1 single ring then you get the +10 rings as a level bonus and there are no rings on Sky Base Act 2 so you always get it!

wow, i never noticed...but now im curious, i never reached more then the 3rd bonus level, are there also that kinda "tricks" to get the bonus levels? or 1up's?

well, i didnt play that game for maybe 15 years, but you really make me wanna do it!!

There is an extra life in each level and if you find them all then 1 appears right at the start of the last level. Most of them are easy to get apart from Labrinth act 3!

Thanks for your comments AluadoPK, I accidently found out that trick oneday when trying to do him fast! This run has many obvious flaws and I now know some quicker routes but nobody seems to be interested in teh speedrunning community unfortunately as this was the first game I ever played and completed.

man, you have just collected 6 of the 7 total emeralds. once you get them all, you can see the great ending, when the buildings of Dr. Robotnik are erased from map. I did it only one time in my life, when I was a child. But great video! Great time!

How do you do that trick on the final boss? That could save me a couple minutes

You have to jump before he's on the screen to hit him fast them do a small jump (don't hold jump for long just press it slightly) and you hit again while he's flashing so he doesn't get hit :)

Thanks for the comment! It's definately my favourite console. Such an amazing machine. I remember when I could never finish it as a child but my dad could and this is the only game he has ever played! I don't think he could od it now though. If it does get submitted it will get improved first. This is just to show how far I got way back in August.

Really good run. As you said, couple of flaws, but I thouroughly enjoyed that. Good luck getting it on SDA if you try for it and hopefully there are a couple of other master system runs you'll be willing to do. SDA needs a good SMS runner...

Hehe yeah I did a few stupid things and I've also found some slightly faster routes. Yeah I noticed the lack of SMS games. I think it's because the console only really did well in EU. I was thinking of doing a few more SMS runs maybe as I really love SMS. Maybe a Sonic 2, Sonic Chaos, Ninja Gaiden, Wonderboy, Phsyco Fox, Kenseiden or even attempt to beat the current Alex Kidd in Miracle World run!
