Also, your claim that Petrucci is more respected than Satriani seems a bit unfounded. Satriani taught Vai and Kirk Hammett. He, almost, single handedly made shred guitar what it is today.

yeah i knew that, he also teaches in Berklee. But when i said respected i meant, known as an artist not by fame but by technique. Actually, and well, with all the respect that makes me think you don't know too much about melodic construction, his melodies aren't poor at all, they have complexity, he introduces lots of modes in his music, such as dorian an eonian, and in some cases he mix them up, like in his song "wishful thinking". Maybe you like a different type of music, and that's all.

In order for modes to even be relevant you have to play up and down the scale, which is, in itself, boring. By "poor" i don't mean simple. Rather, cliche. For instance, the melody starting this song sounds like it could have been written by any composer from the 17th century onward. And the melody after it sounds like something from a cheesy 80s instructional/motivational video. Or the intro riff from "Damage Control" How much more rock 101 can you get?

You're always playing in a mode in the sense that you can transfer anything from one mode to another. For instance you can play a bunch of random notes and then play them in a different mode, but the musical characteristics of each mode become increasingly irrelevant the more you skip notes. That's why you usually hear shredders talk about them. They tend to rarely skip notes, because they're playing fast. If you're playing A E C G Bb F, who cares about the mode?

the trem is shit. It's an edge 3, and all it takes is for you to pull it right the way up once or twice and it falls right out of tune. Best trems to look into are OFRs, Edge Pros/Originals/Lo-Pros/Zeroes, or Zero Resistance trems. Any of those will see you fine.

lol... i guess i kinda agree with you a bit, but my trem honestly keeps in tune perfectly and i still use it like mad. abused it for a year now and still perfect working order.. i literally tune my guitar every 2 weeks or so (and thats just using the fine tuners..) no joke lol. but i guess its good only if you know how to set it up correctly.. cause i've played on other rg350dx's in the past and they do kinda suck.. lol... but its not hard to fix..

An "F-spaced" pickup is built to be used on Fender or floyd rose tremolo guitars, The space between the pole pieces on a pickup are spaced farther than regular spaced pickups to accommodate for the extra string space on those kinds of guitars.
