i am on my third fjr all of them fantastic but i am shocked at the price of them now so i am interested in the 16 gt but there has got to be a catch and it has to be service costs.i was once told that the most profit in bikes is service charges. so how much does the 16 gt cost?
I have a fjr 1300 as well as a older gl 1100 gold wing and a 1450 HD dresser, But the k1600 gt is the bike if you do alot of long trips,I like the GT better than the GTL only for the riding stance
I cannot believe people are saying they like the Hondas better ! I happen to own a ST1300 and would give it up hands down for the BMW ! After all "I agree, thank goodness it's not like a Goldwing, this is 21st Century Teutonic technology, not 20th Century Japanese ironmongery". Enough said.
Gold wing is much better in every single respect. But yeah, this bike isn't too bad. Would take a ST1300 over it though, which is nicer looking than this too.
Reverse very important . Seat on the1600 hard as a rock I mean a rock but my goldwing much smoother I love the goldwing motor let me say one very very important thing I never say I sure hope it starts 50000 miles change oil 10 times 1 air cleaner 1 set of brake pads 1 low beam head lite 5 sets of tires ME 880 that's it Ian not lying that's it but I still want to get a1600 why better brakes much better brakes you can not stop a goldwing on a dime really a good car will stop faster than you can n
I am curious, why this K1600GTL could not be compared to the Goldwing? In order words, what does the Goldwing have that this one does not, especially as it relates to touring? On top of my list are: comfortable seat (check), coverage from elements (check), heated components (check), long range (check), GPS (check), ABS (check), cargo capacity (check), radio (check), power (check), great ride (check), comparable price (check). What is it missing? Maybe an airbag.
Just test road 1600 fells like my goldwing except much better brakes way more nimble but no reverse you just try to push 800 in the dirt or gravel .and clutch way to slow the electronic throttle very very fast .Low speed handling great not the least bit top heavy.engine sound ok just ok all in all really liked it best way to compare goldwing ford f250 1600 a mustang.
didn't know that the Goldwing had the windshield where you can adjust on the fly and the headlights that go into the turns not out straight like all other bikes
I have toured California on a Goldwing and now test ridden the K1600 GT. There is no debate for me - the K1600 wins hands down, weight, handling, performance, technology, style comfort. I bought it the next morning..
I disagree, I think this (particulatly the GTL) is a modern and German interpretation of a Goldwing competitor, much better judged for the modern touring rider. The K1300GT is still the bike aimed at the Concours 14, FJR1300 and ST1300. The new K1600GT and GTL is another step up again in both the bike itself and the price of entry of ownership
Actually, GTL IS a replacement for the LT. K1600GT is the replacement for the K1300GT. Difference is GTL's longer handlebars, taller windscreen, lower seat, and lower pegs, all for a more upright position as on the LT. And the topcase of course.
As for GoldWing. I've ridden thousands of miles on both the GW and the LT. GW is nice enough, but the LT beats it hands down. Better handling, similar speed, vastly better weather protection and much more attractive.
Beautiful, flashy and all, but I'm dissapointed by the eyesore of a brakefluid holder on the handlebars. Why couldn't they make it neat like it was on the K 1200 RS. That said, I'm off to buy a lotto ticket.
I think BMW has done a fantastic job with this bike but there is one thing I am not impressed with. That is they have copied Goldwings horrible gear whine sound from the engines internal gears. In the videos the most noticable sound is that "shweeeeeee" gear whine. Horrible sound the goldwing makes which is ironic because a porsche 911 has the same engine configuration as a goldwing but one souds like a sick bird and the other like a mean dog.
@Mosportaddict it's actually the transmission. This whining noise is common in mostly ALL of the bikes. Some dont. But most do especially my bike, AND WHO GIVES A FUCK!! RIDE THE DAMN THING STOP BITCHING! it's always. "I WANTED MY ICE CREAM PLAIN I DON'T WANT THESE STUPID SPRINKLES ON IT" scenario, it sickens me how people are just so fucking picky and ungrateful,
@EpiDemic117 No actually its not the transmission. The whine I am referring to on a Goldwing and on an ST1300 is there with the bike in neutral not driving. I think you are over reacting and unless the bike is given to you for free I don't think I'm being overly picky and ungrateful about anything. Every bike I've owned, every bmw my friends have owned, didn't go "wheeeeeeee"
@Mosportaddict they whine even when they are in the first gear. MY yamaha does this, all the other jap bikes do to (most unless they put a helical gear in it)
Awesome bike! It's really a replacement for the 1300GT, not the LT, so it shouldn't be considered a competitor of the Gold Wing. This would be matched against the Contours, HondaST1300 or Yamaha FJR, I guess.
@travietrav2 agreed. i've come to admire BMW's motorcycles more and more each day. They did have reliability problems though in their cars. I don't know if that applies as the same for their bikes. They are very elegant pieces of machinery.
@SadaEKE The New Gold Wing cannot even compare to the BMW let alone last years model. As for the technology end of things...The japs are soooo very far behind the Euro's. You obviously are just a poser and of no use to any of us who know what a REAL motorcycle is.
@johncrosby are you implying goldwings suck? well ill be happy to inform you that NOTHING is popular for no reason, honda is great, and so are goldwings, but for the price, id save the $8000-$10000 and get this, but that does NOT mean goldwings suck
I'll chime in as well. After testing the three popular touring bikes (Harley, Goldwing, BMW) I purchased the 2012 Goldwing, XM, Navigation, ABS, Airbag because it was a smoother ride, smoother shifting, more power, sleeker looks - etc. As mentioned in one of johncrosby's other videos he's posted - I purchased the Goldwing because it outperformed all the others and I wasn't bothered by paying $25,000 for the Goldwing plus another $3,000 in accessories to make it look even better.
@johncrosby The only thing is, said 20th Century Japanese ironmongery has an engine that is surprisingly smooth. Flat 6 like either a Porsche or a Subaru. Or a Corvair.
i am on my third fjr all of them fantastic but i am shocked at the price of them now so i am interested in the 16 gt but there has got to be a catch and it has to be service costs.i was once told that the most profit in bikes is service charges. so how much does the 16 gt cost?
