the only good things that had came about in nascar since dale's death, the safer barrier, the hans device (even though the hans device ruins how you drive, I still like it for safety) and Brad Kesolowski.
@RyDogRidesTheBus While the train of thought could be similar, comparing that crash to this one is like comparing apples to oranges. Especially since this wreck happened off the turn, which doesn't ever happen here.
Lapped car racing against the leader fail. Hut Strickland should not have tried to pinch the leader off coming thru turn 3 like that. He comes down part of a lane and gets turned for it.
What I would do for NASCAR to be like this again. It's changed way too much since Earnhardt's death. I hated him when he drove, but I really miss him now just because he was the only person keeping the sport sane
amen, i wished he'd finish every race in last place but it would've been great if he was in every race.... i also never thought i'd hate pre-race coverage, but back than if coverage started at 1, the race started at 1:10
Totally. And why is the Daytona 500 ending under the lights? That's so ridiculous. I'm in college and I live 2 hours away so I can't stay at home to watch the race with my family this year. I could if they'd start the race at 1 and not 3:30
I believe for the longest time they had boilerplate walls, and not concrete walls at Pocono, and that's why DW's car basically dented or punched a hole in the inside pit wall.
I'd rather have seen boilerplate walls than concrete there, since at least the old walls absorbed energy. Ideally, there should be a SAFER barrier there (is there now?)
yeah. He caused the accident in 1990 that essentially ended Neil Bonnett's career at Darlington. At Talladega in '91, he triggered that massive 25-car accident that sent Mark Martin flying thru the air. Kyle Petty broke a leg in it. This was the third strike. It got so bad, that a few weeks later at Talladega, he stood up at the driver's meeting and asked for forgiveness, apologizing for what had happened in the past year and a half.

Geez, you could see it coming, Earnhardt got owned in that one. Petty got some big air. Just caused by careless driving.

Greg29fan 4 years ago 16
@Greg29fan Especially the Kodak machine. Swervin' Irvan caused the big crash at Talldega and about wiped everyone out.
The next race at Talladega, not very pleasant. Irvan may have won Daytona, but he must have gotten cocky.

pocono had some pretty weak walls back then. good thing they put in concrete walls cause people would get killed the way they crash nowadays

There's no SAFER Barrier on the pit wall. I was at Pocono last month for the August race, and as far as I can tell, it's still the boiler plate wall.
