  • Sooo...

Tasking a bunch of misfit soldiers from different countries somehow results in a Elite Unit that can do the impossible?

  • @gbatemper123 Given the history of the BETA war as described in the games that take place in the decades following this story, it is doubtful the Black Marks will have survived long. By the time of Unlimited and Alternative, the Soviet Union and most of Europe are overrun by the BETAs and operating out of Alaska.

  • @AcroRay Hmm, do you have any info on this? Is this a game? Or is it a short side story, or a big spin off like Total Eclipse? I have played pretty much all of the Muv-luv stuff.

  • @gbatemper123 It's a multimedia side story running as art/text in Tech Gian and modeling dioramas and text in Hobby Japan. Light novels are also being published. Like Total Eclipse, but not nearly as big - at least at the moment. The Balalaika TSF featured in the story has been released as a Volks A3 figure, and should be out in the Revoltech Muv Luv line in December. The website covers most of the multimedia content that's available.

  • @AcroRay Hm, nice. I'll probably buy it with all the craploads of other Muv-luv goods over the summer.

  • @AcroRay I know I'd love to see an anime of this series; Carnelian really needs more mainstream anime exposure that matches her art as closely as possible. But they've decided to make one with Total Eclipse first, sadly, though Sou Miyata is no artistic slouch.

  • Just Imagine if STAR WARS was like this >:)

  • I think the BGM is a stock music because I've heard it somewhere else. Anybody knows the title?

  • @blackversegun "Mars" from Holst's THE PLANETS symphony. Easily recognizable.

  • @AcroRay Thanks, I really need to listen to more stock musics :)

  • @blackversegun Well, it's not really 'stock music'. It is one of the western world's better-known pieces of symphonic composition.

  • @AcroRay Ah, pardon me. I'm not knowledgeable in that area. Thx for telling. :)

  • @blackversegun Get yourself a copy of the whole symphony. It's a must-have! You won't regret it. :-)

  • Finally, names to faces. Thanks for the translation.

  • If Carnelian was one of the founding members of Age, then why has it taken so long for her art to take centre stage in one of their games?

  • @Mazryonh: Personally, I have no idea. I'm not familiar at all with Carnelian's work. However, much of the Muv Luv core game development was done some time ago. It's possible that this entry in the ML side stories is Carnelian's first schedule opportunity to work. I expect there will be - or already are - some comments from Carnelian on the matter in Tech Gian (Which I don't read, so if anyone has any page scans or translation of the TG Schwarzesmarken material, please drop me a note!).

  • @AcroRay Too bad I don't know Japanese. I'd like to see more of Carnelian's design work in mainstream anime, for instance. Is there any chance this new chapter of MuvLuv will become a full-fledged visual novel rather than just a printed light novel?

  • @Mazryonh No idea, unfortunately. It looks like the material will be included in the second Muv Luv CHRONICLES visual package, in addition to Tech Gian and Hobby Japan material.

  • @AcroRay Okay, mind telling me just how MuvLuv Total Eclipse came out? Was it a magazine only publication or a light novel or something else?

  • @Mazryonh The story has been released in various media. Text pieces of the story were revealed at the TE official website, in Tech Gian and in Hobby Japan. Tech Gian had illustrations to go with their story portions, while Hobby Japan's were primarily photography of model dioramas. (Many of those diorama pieces were displayed at AGE booths at various hobby and publishing shows.)

  • [Darn post limit!] I believe an audio drama is presented in the MUV LUV ALTERED FABLE disk, and a turn-based tactical game featuring TE units is also on the disk. And an extensive manga serial of the Total Eclipse storyline ran (or is running still?) in Dengeki Daioh, and two collected volumes are available (check CDJapan for them!)

Oh - The Hobby Japan and Tech Gian material have been reprinted in 3 collected "Mooks" - they're great!

Just no anime, unless you count promo videos.

  • @AcroRay There was another character on the official website's roster recently; a short black-haired woman with flowers in her hair. Might you know her name in Romaji?

  • @Mazryonh Not sure. I'll have to check...

  • @Mazryonh "Pham Thi Lan" She's Vietnamese, and part of Unit 666. [Special thanks to MicroBry for the name translation!]

  • @AcroRay Thank you, I was wondering what her name was. In any case, keep us updated on how this new series is going to be released.

  • (I'll update translations and notes as I develop them.)
