  • Beautiful. Signe Anderson's version is really special, too. Signe is such a powerful contralto.

  • Amazing version!! Sounds like it comes striaght out off mid sixties New York...Pot noodle percussion, don't add water I assume? Anthony

  • One of the best versions!!

  • Does anyone know where I can find the version from the Au go go singers?

  • Very nice, kind of "mellow," version. Enjoyed it and the information provided in the video. (Cut my teeth on the Richie Havens album version way back when.) Have to send this link to my brothers who will love this version too.

  • Very kool version....you guys really rock

  • best version I've heard yet of this great song - congrats !

  • This is such an incredible song, with such deep emotion! It's a 1960's gem.

However, while Henske (I believe) first played the song, HP Lovecraft mastered it, adding better vocals and instrumentation.

  • Hi!! Fatherbruce from North France !!!

I can't find words to talk about my joy to listen to you......waoooww !!!!! I'm sure for one thing, i'd like your song never stop !!!! listening ever end ever ......... Peace on Earth !!!!

  • Judy made a big impression on me she was great.

  • Judy has one of those images and voices that get stuck in your mind forever. Can't get enough of her.

  • Judy does the original, dog. Jefferson Airplane's the cover. Check the dates. 1963 vs 1967

  • @howgenerica I believe HP Lovecraft was the best version of this song.

  • beautiful.

  • Beautiful!

  • WOW!

    That is pretty fantastic.

Probably the best version I have heard............ever!

  • Misspopanoche's gorgeous cover version of this Billy Edd Wheeler classic is actually a coal mining song. It's about the singer's father, who dreamed of being a high flyin' bird to escape the dangers of working in the mines - but his only way of actually escaping was by dying... Richie Havens changed the lyrics so the original meaning got lost as the song was covered by other artists... It's one of the greatest coal mining songs ever written, but not many folks know about it or its origin...

  • Been and listening and performing this song for almost forty years...This a wonderful version...Thanks Billy Brandt

  • Misspopanoche --- That's a very beautiful version of a moving song! Thanks, Tony from Kentucky

  • Hi Tony from Kentucky.

thanks for listening and for a lovely comment.

  • I remember this song and Judy Henske's version of it very well.I first heard it in 1964when I was 15 or so, just learning to play guitar in Goose Bay, Labrador. One of the girls in our nascent little Folk community sang this beautifully, and it still haunts me. Thank you so much for recording this. You've done a beautiful job.

  • Hey SJ, The Judy Henke version is beautiful and haunting. The Jefferson Airplane version is rocking and almost gospel. Thanks for a lovely comment.

    ~Sonya

  • Superb - this is just so *right*. I used to listen to Jefferson Airplane on this - but I like this take better. There is a simplicity and honesty here which really captures the essence of the song...

  • Thanks Neil, Jefferson Airplane live at Monterey is my favourite version. Our cover was inspired more by Judy Henske who played a huge part of making it so popular. You should see if you can find it.. it's beautiful.

  • Absolutely fantastic, what a great voice and guitar tune! Chicken skin on my arms... You deserve a music company interest, I would buy your records. Thanks for sharing a dream. Five stars

  • Truly beautiful! Are you planning a tour or do you have any dates set in the Iowa-Illinois-Wisconsin tri-state area?

Also, thank you for validating my use of whatever was laying around for percussion during my family get-togethers for the last 35 years!

("Jim, why are all these noodles broken?")

  • Hey Jim, Thanks for such a wonderful comment. We're based in England (where very few want to listen to us gig this kinda material) If we ever come over to the States we'll be sure to look you up tho! A jam with you and a packet of instant noodles sounds like great fun!

    ~Sonya

  • Great and informative vid, beautiful interpreted by you!

  • También me gusta, esta canción

lovely voice, lovely guitars, lovely production, lovely noodles....

really like the vibe of this - perfect for the weekend :-)

    delighted i found you!

    thanks

  • Hi Kate.. Happy New Year!

No point in spending a fortune on percussion when you have pot noodles laying around eh? lol

    ~Sonya

  • I did enjoy it.

It doesn't have that live shake-'em-down feeling but it feels and sounds quite nice as it is.

  • Hey Ray, thanks for checking this out & commenting. Theres only so much 'shake-em-down' sound you can get with instant noodles and a wooden spoon lol

  • What a beautiful song and such a fabulous cover you have done. Your vocals are just so lovely !! I love your videos-keep them coming !! I think you and I are of the same mind about keeping hidden- great minds think alike !!

  • Hey there Tilly, I think you may be right about keeping hidden lol We've had the camcorder out a few times and I'm never happy as I always seem to look fat'ter' and frumpy lol

Thanks for the great comment regarding the vocals..

  • S & S, I could listen to your guys all day. I remember this song very well. I frist heard it by a group called "We Five". They had an enormous folk-rock hit in the US around 1965 called "You Were On My Mind", and I think it even pre-dated the Byrds Mr. Tambourine Man on the charts. Anyway, loved the performance as always. You do inspire me. -Ron

  • haha, I see you mention "We Five" in the video :o) I thought for a moment I was educatiing you, hahaha. Great cover. -Ron

  • hahaha.. Sorry.

Thanks for the great comment. It's watching and listening to others on youtube that inspire us to record more. Everyone seems to be upping their game recently though and uploading far more often so we better keep up or we'll be forgotten lol
