used to watch this and gigantor, speed racer, marine boy, king kong when i was a kid....own these now and still love them...corny i know, but i still love them...
kimba came first but it is similar to lion king though again no ideas are original so lion king rip them off who cares the joy and memories lion king brought is timeless
@eagleduzt If you consider the lion king a ripoff because of some character similarities. (or claw and scar likenesses). Then I doubt you have watched anything that wasn't a "ripoff" You could even say that the basic idea of kimba and the lion king (animal monarchy) is stolen from bambi, which got the idea from someone else before that was made. (I know disney didn't make bambi.)
Either way, no one forces you to watch the lion king, so if you don't like it, don't watch.
@utubewatchero You people are way too quick to assume what I am saying. I did NOT say it is a ripoff. I told people who WERE saying it was a ripoff that if anything, Lion King used Kimba as a model, not the other way around because Kimba LOOKS obviously like it was first. Lion King was my favorite movie as a child, and this one I can respect is good as well. You people see the word ripoff and get all argumentative
I just misunderstood. It happens to me too because I agree with you, that it was likely used when TLK was made. However I'm defending that it's not a "ripoff" or "copy" of kimba, I can't say that with the character limit tho
@OscarMaris Actually, it's the other way around. This show is from 1965, and the original comic is from around 1950. Obviously this was around way before The Lion King, which is from 1994.
@OscarMaris acctully the lion king came after this, i dont want to be a smart-ass but disney actully copied this....sad to think they would try to be sneaky thinking no one would look through their childhood and find this..
There was an English redub of this show in 1993. It uses Canadian voices. I own the Australian version on DVD put out by Madman. This DVD uses the original 1965 English dub. This is the version I saw and heard as a kid in the late 1970's.
I bought a DVD of Kimba episodes to show my kids...and the theme was completely different! It was some other pathetic tune that I'd never heard before. I felt ripped off!
My God this takes me back to when I was a little girl and my mum used to sit with my little brother 8 years younger than me on her lap and I had to (at that time suffer) through every episode. Love the song and oh what a good little lion Kimba was.
Too true, Too True, started singing to the tune, strangly, any copies of Kimba on Video or DVD has a different intro song. Why Ohh Why mess with original perfection of Retro Anime, imagine if they changed the original tune of G1 Transformers for re-release? The shitstorm that'll bring.
@Kibarulez1 - simba is suppose to mean lion in some language or another but they wanted to trademark the show and could not trademark the name Simba - because it was an actual word. The producer had a daughter named kim and so it was changed to kim-ba ...
@chickensayboo Actually, on the Kimba site it says they were going to call him Simba but there was a drink or some kind of product at the time called Simba and they didn't want the lion the same name as a drink so they changed one letter.
@Sorax981 I didn't mean to say that without saying that it's not all that similar. I think Bambi and kimba AND The lion King are all different, and all good in their own ways. However, with Bambi I'm oging off of Disneys version since I never read the original version.
p.s. Just in case you didn't know, Bambi wasn't "created" by Disney. It's based off of an earlier book or novel... whatever you want to call it.
I let my emotions take over me, just like how you let your emotions make your opinions biased/ taking sides with your childhood movie.
The reason you cannot accept that tlk was a copy was because you love it so much. I do too dude, but just accept it and live on. Imagine you were a child from the 60s and you watched Kimba and it affected you deeply. Then years later tlk came and gave no credit to Kimba at all. Is that justified?
Of course it's not a complete copy, they intended it to be that way. But that isn't what's morally wrong. What's wrong is that DISNEY IS SO FUCKING GREEDY THAT THEY STILL HAVEN'T GIVEN CREDIT
When they first created it, they denied that it was a copy and some Americans who watched Kimba as a child protested in front of theaters. disney even tried to bribe Tezuka co. and said "please don't sue we don't have good lawyers" BULLL SHIT THEY HAVE THE BEST LAWYERS IN THE WORLD
I started watching this after I found the controversy with this and the lion king. I'll give lion king might have copied the look of claw, but the other similarities (up to episode 7 anyways) are coincidental.
The plot seems completely different other than claw trying to become king which is a common theme (someone trying to become king, that is.) You can't credit this with ruler(king) of the jungle theme because I'm sure lions were the kings of the jungle before this.
Am I missing something? Kimba and the Lion King's plots are TOTALLY different! And wasn't Kimba's name in the Japanese version Leo, or something like that?
This is quite cute. I remember watching some kind of preview about this at the very end of one of my original pokemon series cassettes, one of which is called Poke-friends.
From what I know of this show, the plot is entirely different from the lion king. Who knows, it's possible that the similarities are all just coincidental. That kind of stuff has happened before.

i remember watching it and singing it in the first grade in 1972.front of the class.OMG it bring me back memories.remember seeing it on wsb 2 NBC(now ABC affiliate)in atlanta.it was fun times back then.when i was young.
My childhood memories flood back when i watch this intro song/vision. Love the catchy tune and lyrics. A pity most of the world leaders don't follow the line "Who believes in doing good and doing right".... OnYa Kimba..
Simba has nothing to do with Kimba and not a remake or hommage or anything else, except for some elements in the animation. Lion King's story was inspired by Hamlet and not Kimba. There aren't any enthronement in Kimba at all.
Oh, and the last thing: original Kimba's name was Taitei. I dunno what "Kimba" means, but Simba means "lion" in Suahili/Swahili (one of African languanges).
@WolfShenda Kimba is a word from animal language (from a toon) and it means little coward, hehe I remeber it I watched this show about 13 years ago :)
@WolfShenda Loooool. I've never actually seen Kimba and The Lion King was my favorite childhood movie, but it's pretty obvious that they ripped off of it. Like, the plot is very similar and some scenes are taken straight from the older show.
Just google "Lion King Kimba" and click the first link, they have side by side pictures.
@Tman376 You think I didn't see it? And it wasn't "ripped off". I wish I'd be in mood to explain, but people are just saying that there are similiarities in things that they could EASILY invent by themselves (TLK-makers), just because it'd look good for the movie. Like the scene at the beginning of the movie, when Mufasa stands on Pride Rock.
@WolfShenda What about how both lions have their dead fathers come to them in a vision where they speak to them thru the clouds as they give advice to the cub about their future and their identities?
You're right, "ripped off" might be a bit harsh though, as I've heard that the makers of both works were actually friends so it's understandable, but I think it's clear that The Lion King got some scenes straight out of Kimba.
@originalbot Um, you're a little confused... Pocahontas was a real person; she was actually around WAAAAYYY before anime was even invented. And I don't remember Pocahontas having to live by herself with 3 wolves... Or fight giant boars... Or kill a hugeass spirit demon like Princess Mononoke for that matter. The stories aren't similar at all.
@mcwizard100 Reading more into it, it looks like the Lion King was planned to be Kimba, but Disney lost the rights at the last minute when a lot of production had been already started. So due to copyright issues they have to deny everything about the link between the two, or lose the whole movie.
@mcwizard100 actually Walt Disney and the creator of Kimba were business buddies, as well as Salvador Dahli. There was a number of trading of ideas, and Disney had full rights to making the story for over here. I think Disney still even has the rights to make its own Astro Boy(Not sure who made the new one)
I loved this cartoon i just found out about it a few weeks ago and already im adicted to it and this came out before the lion king kimba came out in 1966 and the lion king came out in 1994
Yeah, I had this VHS tape in about 2000 of Pokémon. This was ten years ago, but I still think I remember an advertisement with a white lion yelling "Kimba!" (I didn't see anything about it again until 2010.) Anyone have an idea what that was an ad for?
Have you even seen it? Osamu Tezuka was a great animation artist. All of the series that I have seen/read from him so far are really good despite the old fashioned animation.
This is why I hate disney. They copy Japan's anime. They probably copied everything else too. I always hated Lion King. And at least Kimba is original and isn't just a fake copy. Lion King is a Kimba wannabe.
omg how could u hate disney? kimba and lion king were both very good and crews of people worked hard 2 make both of them a success why would you say that?
Disney copied this anime, from Osamu Tezuka (the father of anime). He made this anime in 1950, and then he died in 1989, and Disney copied it in 1994 with Lion King.
If you dont know Osamu Tezuka, then you're ignorant. Don't talk about stuff you don't know. This "thing" is not retarded. Maybe you are.
Lion King is a fake, and it can never be better than Kimba (the original one).
I heard that is because the creator of the first big Japanese cartoon (Astroboy-1963) grew up watching American Disney & Dave Fleischer cartoons. He drew Astroboy with large eyes, and when it became a big hit in Japan & abroad, all other Japanese animators followed suit.

I can't remember, but if links aren't allowed, it's a pokemon named shaymin, which has a sky form... that's the one I'm talking about.

I'll just comment on this one, At least you calmed down.
I'm not saying that they didn't copy a lot of things from Kimba, but I'm arguing that it's not a COMPLETE copy.
Yes, Disney should give credit to Kimba, but not all credit.
I think in one of the videos you commented on, it showed the qoute:
"If you stop to think, there's nothing new. Now that's the challenge, rewrite what's already written, and do it well"
I think that's right, so LK copied, but is not a COMPLETE copy.

I think both Kimba and The Lion King are great!
Kimba is an awesome animated series, and The Lion King is an awesome animated film.

you people are stupid, lion king is a totally different story.
shegwin 1 year ago
Oh, and the last thing: original Kimba's name was Taitei. I dunno what "Kimba" means, but Simba means "lion" in Suahili/Swahili (one of African languanges).
WolfShenda 1 year ago
@WolfShenda Kimba is a word from animal language (from a toon) and it means little coward, hehe I remeber it I watched this show about 13 years ago :)
Theseus1000 1 year ago
@WolfShenda Loooool. I've never actually seen Kimba and The Lion King was my favorite childhood movie, but it's pretty obvious that they ripped off of it. Like, the plot is very similar and some scenes are taken straight from the older show.
Just google "Lion King Kimba" and click the first link, they have side by side pictures.
Tman376 1 year ago
@Tman376 You think I didn't see it? And it wasn't "ripped off". I wish I'd be in mood to explain, but people are just saying that there are similiarities in things that they could EASILY invent by themselves (TLK-makers), just because it'd look good for the movie. Like the scene at the beginning of the movie, when Mufasa stands on Pride Rock.
WolfShenda 1 year ago
@WolfShenda What about how both lions have their dead fathers come to them in a vision where they speak to them thru the clouds as they give advice to the cub about their future and their identities?
You're right, "ripped off" might be a bit harsh though, as I've heard that the makers of both works were actually friends so it's understandable, but I think it's clear that The Lion King got some scenes straight out of Kimba.
Tman376 1 year ago
Lolwut, it's actually funny how people think that TLK is a Taitei's rip-off. XD

The stories aren't similar at all.

i cant believe disney stole everything from japan
like this and princess mononoke (pocahontas)

@mcwizard100 Reading more into it, it looks like the Lion King was planned to be Kimba, but Disney lost the rights at the last minute when a lot of production had been already started. So due to copyright issues they have to deny everything about the link between the two, or lose the whole movie.
blacktigerchick 1 year ago
@mcwizard100 The last paragraph of the Lion King Controversy. It also describes about a Bambi manga. I hope its enough
blacktigerchick 1 year ago
I think Kimba and The Lion King have a contract together or work together, because they show all these ads for Kimba in my Lion King 2 vcr
Dryleafswarrior 1 year ago

KampferXeon 2 years ago
@KampferXeon
Kimba had a Canadian-made dub in the 90s, so the ad could be for that.
i010001 2 years ago
@i010001 Are you sure there it wasn't a movie? I know it wasn't the Canadian dub...
KampferXeon 2 years ago
I don't think the movie was released until the mid-00s, but I'm not sure... It might also have been the sequel series, though

but obviously,Lion King is a copy version of Kimba. Disney has never admitted that, I just hate it.

Why are people making such a big deal out of Simba and Kimba? Disney has the perfect right to do so.

Have you even seen it? Osamu Tezuka was a great animation artist. All of the series that I have seen/read from him so far are really good despite the old fashioned animation.
CaptFil1 2 years ago 4
lmao then why were you watching a video about Kimba if you hate it?
If you hate it, shouldnt you avoid watching videos about him?
EmNessaProductions 2 years ago
This is why I hate disney. They copy Japan's anime. They probably copied everything else too. I always hated Lion King. And at least Kimba is original and isn't just a fake copy. Lion King is a Kimba wannabe.
lawliet304 2 years ago
omg how could u hate disney? kimba and lion king were both very good and crews of people worked hard 2 make both of them a success why would you say that?

Kimba came first, and Kimba is a kid's show from Japan.
Okino52788 2 years ago
Disney copied this anime, from Osamu Tezuka (the father of anime). He made this anime in 1950, and then he died in 1989, and Disney copied it in 1994 with Lion King.
If you dont know Osamu Tezuka, then you're ignorant. Don't talk about stuff you don't know. This "thing" is not retarded. Maybe you are.
Lion King is a fake, and it can never be better than Kimba (the original one).

Japanese cartoons are typical with their characters having big "doe-eyes".
newalm 2 years ago
I heard that is because the creator of the first big Japanese cartoon (Astroboy-1963) grew up watching American Disney & Dave Fleischer cartoons. He drew Astroboy with large eyes, and when it became a big hit in Japan & abroad, all other Japanese animators followed suit.
