  • hello there, can use this flash away from the D5100 to achieve 'low key' pictures?

  • what camcorder r u using?

  • do the molded gels come with the flash or are they an add you buy?

  • How to install the remote to nikon d2x ?

  • Does this version have the heat warning?

  • @udayaps yes it does

  • Matt,

Absolutely EXCELLENT video review! I was looking into the purchase of a second speedlight to complement my SB-800 to build my basic Nikon D300 CLS and your video review along with Mark Wallace's video have done the trick. BIG THANK YOU for your comprehensive review of the SB-700...

  • Great video. Thank you

  • Is there a way to use this SB-700 in a SLAVE Mode with the D3100?

So the flash senses the in camera flash and triggers at the same time.

  • @KHBwmm I've seen reports about people using this setup by using some black tape and covering 9/10 of the D3100 flash to use it as master for the SB-700

  • The best sb700 review seen. I am planning to sell one of my sb600's and pay the difference. What convinced me is having a better zoom range and using it as a master for wireless trigger.

  • can I trigger this flash wireless from a d3s ??? with out using any other devices ???

  • What's the different with using the dome or the panel, and does using the bounce card make much of difference? when would i use it?

  • Does the type of batteries used have any affect on how quickly the SB-700 will overheat and shut down? Shopping around for a flash to compliment my D7000...

  • There was a couple of things left out from this review. The major one being the gels that go on the flash actually press on certain prongs which automatically sets the camera's White balance. Also, you don't have to continuously press on the zoom button to cycle through the options. Just like the other options, you can first press the zoom button and then use the jog dial to cycle backward and forward. Finally, you have to press the button in the middle of the on-off switch only to go to and fr

  • Good work and thanks for posting.

  • When i shoot with flash (sb700) the maximum shutter speed is 200. But i need more. Why is just 200???

    Somebody help me!!!

  • @gyulab1 - You have to make sure you have high speed sync turned on. Check your manual.

  • @ArtoftheImage God bless you man!!!!

  • @ArtoftheImage becoz ur curtains wont be fully open for speeds over that. and if flash goes off u will have dark portions at the top or bottom of the image

  • @gyulab1 1/200 is the camera's sync speed meaning that the if you shoot the camera any faster than that, the shutter will close before the flash has fired it's complete output, resulting in a shadow caused by your shutter's own rear curtain, which you obviously don't want. Some years before there was no actual limitation on the camera as to shutter speed so you could experiment with it, but you would get the shadow anyway so the manufacturers decided to lock that automatically

  • I made my SB-700 purchase and while playing around I noticed you can't change the zoom setting if one of the filters are mounted on the lens. I"m sure there is a good reason but I'm just a newbie. I do agree this is the best review on youtube, sure helps to put the manual instructions into perspective.

  • i'm in love, just that.

  • Thanks a lot for this video! Is it possible to use SB-700 without using the built-in flash, when the SB-700 is not on the camera? If so, how do I do that?

    Thanks in advance

  • But heres the thing, Right now the sb700 is too new that not alot are sold as used, but there is alot of sb800 on sell used, so the price on a used sb800 is less than on a sb700.

So this mean you can buy for half the price a much better flash.

  • @ArtoftheImage hii there, i have a D3s and i've just gotten my new sb-700. and just wanna ask : since the D3s has already had a wireless transmitter with it, can it be used to trigger the sb-700 without having any extra device to do so? some advice please before i'm getting another set of sb flash. thanks..

  • @coktracad hey another question , is that i dont understand a thing .....pro photographers have cameras that can trigger atomatically the flashes from a distance and yet they use , a special device , ( magic.....) , plz can u explain why ? sorry coktracad for entering ur comment :D

  • which could be a good wireless remote for this flash and the nikon d3100

  • which radio slave can i use with that flash and the nikon d3100?

  • Excellent review! Thx

  • I have an elinchrom skyport and I want to use it to fire this flash wirelessly off camera. I see no port to plug my receiver into, is it possible to use this flash this way?

  • ttl is like auto?

  • Thanks for this review. I just got this and so far, so good :)

  • what should i buy the nikon MB D11 Multi Power Battery Pack or the sb-700?

  • @decas115 - I'd get the SB-700 if you don't have any speedlights. I don't bother much with the add-on grips these days as I prefer to keep things small and light. You'll do more for your photography with a flash than with a grip.

  • @ArtoftheImage thank you!! What is the best lens for the nikon d7000? I mean a "muiti" lens

  • @decas115 - Depends on what you're shooting. The Nikon 18-105mm VR is a very good all around lens for the price. For a little more, you can get the Nikon 18-200mm VR which gives you more reach. And then there's the Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 OS which gives you a constant f2.8 aperture as well as OS. Just depends on what you want to do with it. If you want more range, you sacrifice on speed. If you want faster glass, you sacrifice zoom range.

  • @ArtoftheImage Thanks MAtt

  • Matt, hands down the best flash review on youtube right now. Those who are confused about this and SB600.. spend the extra money and get SB700 specially if you intend to do strobe work. It takes 1 second to switch it to remote on SB700 rather than going in menu for SB600 or SB800. This flash is very under rated. I've used SB800 but I prefer 700 due to it's light weight, user friendly interface and it produces enough power.

  • @PhotographersOnUTube - Thanks! Totally agree with you. I'm selling off my SB-800's and have added a 2nd SB-700 to the stable.

  • @ArtoftheImage It's funny because I am also ordering 2nd SB700 to use it as a back up for events and for strobe work. I'm so glad I didn't purchase the SB900. Yes, way more power but SB700 does the job for me, plus it's really light in weight. It weighs less than SB800 as well.

  • I been thinking to get this flash instead of the SB-900, because I don't really do much flash. But it's nice for those certain lighting conditions where a fast lens just wont work. Do you think this SB-700 is better than the SB-600?

  • @nerwin - Yes, the SB-700 is a more advanced, more powerful flash than the SB-600. That said, the SB-600 may be all you need and is less money.

  • does master mean that the flash has to be on the camera to control other flashs or its the primary flash off camera, iv never used fash but i would love to learn

  • @doormat321 - Yes, when the flash is set to Master it controls the remote flashes from the camera. It can also be put on a TTL cord like the Nikon SB-28 and used off camera and still be a Master controlling the remotes.

  • Awesome video mate!

  • Great review, Info from start to finish, some reviews waffle around. Keep them coming very interesting. I have this flash and love it had the sb900 but IMHO the sb700 is better.

  • Would the sb700 (or 2 of these) be a decent option for out door portraits, say engagement photos, along with a softbox (honl) or will it be better for get some strobes? I want to expand lighting but just not sure if these will have enough power?

Again, great video... thanks for taking the time to go through the options!

    Cheers

  • @xGIBROx It depends, 2 of these shooting through umbrella would be more than enough but for bigger softboxes you'll need some punch like SB900

  • is there a way to turn on infer red on manually

  • Could i use two of these at the same time (wireless) on a d7000 for portrait photography?

  • @DivineOverlord666 with 2-channel (or with more channels) trigger, yes.

  • Great summary!

  • acctualy you dont have to push the button to go from Off to On. You should press it only if your going on remote and master.

  • Awesome video mate. Looks like a nice bit of kit.

  • Thank you :D ♥

  • Great vid! Can you please do one for the SB900?

  • @lewiscifer999 - I'll see what I can do. I actually don't own an SB-900 and don't plan on buying one as the SB-700 does everything I need and doesn't have the thermal shut-down problems that many people experience with the SB-900. That said, if I can get some decent photos of one, I could probably do a similar tour.

  • @ArtoftheImage is there a way to turn on infer red on manually

  • Nice, I would want an external flash, but just aint got the money yet.
