If the FAS example board had a full width cutting of six and three quarter feet, this being an eight foot board would mean that the split would be more than twice the sm, sm=6 times two = 12, so there would be 16 inches of split in this board, which is not allowed in FAS according to paragraph 58 in the NHLA rule book.
