  • im 13 i loved this since i was 9

  • those were the day's

  • Steppe wolf

  • Not bad for a totally color blind German immigrant

  • ed started a lip sinc craze

  • was this lip synced?

  • @HomeSkillet489 Sounds like it was. John Kay is doubling his own vocals. Very unusual for Sullivan, but then again, John Kay has always been a stickler for "perfection". He probably wanted it to sounds exactly like the record and Ed wanted a live performance. Betcha this was the compromise. Other good clue is that none of the instruments have cables! lol

  • BOOONNEEE TO BE WILDDDDD(ONE PIECE RULES!!)

  • bone to be wild, whaha!

  • WE ARE BORN TO BE WILD!!!!

  • I'm 58 - loveed this since I was 17

  • @kandersonthai You are 48 sir

  • Not bad.

  • @bobyoung53 they didnt have monitors speakers then when the beatles were on they took a level and marked the dials with a grease pencil somebody wipped the marks off billly J. kramer did a benefit concert for world hunger yrear in th 80s from the ed sullivan theater they said whats it like being back here he said well the dressing room is the same

  • @bobyoung53 rickenbacker issued a john kay model some years back

  • @bobyoung53

Yeah, John Kay. You can hear two vocals. I guess they didn't want to go to all the trouble of redoing

a new version. They do the same thing with The Beatles "Hey Jude" video and the piano player

    Nicky Hopkins is missing.

  • This is a song I never did like, but my 80 year old father loves it. The organ

    solo also drives me nuts.

  • @yourimageunreels the organist goldie passed out and the had to carry him offstage when they did a free concert in the sheraton hotel

  • @spacepatrolman How strange, the same thing occured when I saw Steppenwolf at Madison Sq Garden, NY in the fall of '68. The organist (Goldy MqJohn passed out during one of their extended jams. They carried him off stage, revived him, and he returned to the organ before the song finished! To this day me and my cousin talk about that incident! steve

  • @nodoc100 better living through chemistry [ everybody i knew that was into that group was on something]

  • YEAH!!!!!! ROCK N ROLL FOREVER!!!

  • The Sullivan show was known to have the acts lip sync. It really wasn't considered taboo for tv back then.

  • I think ed didnt like the rock acts playing all the songs back then ive noticed every ed sullivan rock clip he allowed 1 minute then cut them off ed you old bastard you shouldve let them finish there songs

  • @kypoppa Sullivan was done live. The rock acts were last and were sometimes truncated do to time. Now they fix that in editing but then Sullivan was live.

  • @vampyric666sm OK!! FUCK YOU!!

  • great song, great band ,sille 64, germany- flensburg

  • fuck ed sullivan...

  • alguem tem o video completo da musica...please

  • I remember begging my mom to let me stay up late just to watch this. She was pissed when they waited all the way to the end...

  • analog recording rules!!!

  • This song will cause ya to have a conniption!

  • I LOVE COMERCIALS :> xD D D lol

  • Un himno de el rock and roll

  • fuck you VEVO!!!

  • Great Canadian band.

  • 8 people were born to behave

  • i wanna see the whole thing ):

  • Easy Rider !!

  • This is my era of music...Love all of it!!

  • The singer looks like he playing Val Kilmer, playing Jim Morrison.

  • They used to have the full length version of Steppenwolf performing BTBW on youtube but it dissapeared..

  • Nice backing track.

  • best quality for 69..

  • they left the lip sync vocal up as well as live one, how odd!

  • On the keyboard for STEPPENWOLF. BOB ROSS!!!!

  • born to be wiiiiiiiiiiild

  • August 17, 1969 ? What the hell they were doing on this show that day when they could go to Woodstock ?

  • watch the my video response

  • does anyone else think this is friggin perfect quality for 1969?

  • @edyoung44

That's what im saying, it looks like 1986 quality

  • @edyoung44 That's because high quality recordings and HD video have existed for years but only for master recordings, it's only been recently that they hit consumer market. Think about it, you can now buy a Charlie Chaplin movie in full HD, because the source video has depth even higher than HD.

  • @edyoung44 Yes, watch this video, in 64 have good quality >> /watch?v=mmdPQp6Jcdk

  • @edyoung44 They probably nabbed this by taking perfect 4K line resolution scans from the original film.

  • @edyoung44 Yes for sure lol i was thinking that watching the video and was like this is NOT 1969

  • @edyoung44 I noticed that to man!

  • @edyoung44

Morrison is just singing to the original recording.

  • @edyoung44 yeah, friggin perfect playback. dont get me wrong, i love them, but this is a fact, and its not a bad thing on a tv show

  • @edyoung44 ed sullivan had a definate level of quality of the videography and the sets live tv shows always had a dress rehersal

  • @edyoung44

don't know if you noticed that's playback through and through, the audio track could easily be added by anyone anytime?

that's not live man, that's a sixties theater performance

  • @edyoung44 it was remastered for DVD

  • The Guitarist totally looks like 1972' Keith Richards.

  • @PatricknAdam I think Keith Richards was 72 back in 1972

  • Good night. Fuck you dead Ed.

  • Comment removed

  • LARGA VIDA AL ROCK AND ROLL!!

  • he looks kinda like val kilmer haha

  • @Bodomterror696969 you mean Val Kilmer looks like "him."

  • @Sto0pidPenguinPro YES haha my bad val kilmer should only be so lucky

  • @Bodomterror696969 Val Kilmer actually looked like Jim Morrison XD

  • I'm a vocal impressionist and did this song last night at my local casino lounge and I can tell you this: Over 40-years later and this song still knocks 'em dead. It has withstood the test of time.

  • Damn now this is rock and roll!

  • try ballisticfive dennis on right hand guitar for a longer live version using an sg guitar on my channel

  • Ha ha this was going on during Woodstock. The third day to be exact!

  • That dude looks like he was on some major drugs
