I had one rock to split. Since I refuse to borrow tools I found a new Ryobi Hammer Drill for well under $100 at a local big box store. I then went to my local Hardware store and asked for a bit to drill stone with. I bought the feathers and wedges (most expensive pieces) and was finished for less than $150.
I suppose you could use a chisel but if you want to be done this month I'd consider buying or borrowing or renting a hammer drill.
How do you determine how big of a wedge you will need?

any clue where i can get a drill that can put those holes in rock? and what drill bits do they use and is it possible to make holes without a drill?
