This is one of the most beautiful renditions of this aria I have heard...ever! Both the lady and the voice were gorgeous, and the shading and tender phrasing of this aria were divine!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful treat; we all are the richer for this precious gift.
SUBLIME! That E6 note which she doesn't sing here is certainly not the most important thing in the world. What truly matters is her overall rendition of this aria, and it is highly artistic, subtle phrasing, ethreal and yet spontaneous portrayal, perfectly adapt to Gilda's childlike innocence, simplicity and naivety.
My heart stopped when I first heard this. Such richness in a coloratura voice. A beautiful woman with a superb voice. Someone mentioned a recording of Rigoletto with Anna Moffo, Robert Merrill (I was an infant then......but be still my heart.
AND Alfredo Kraus? Excuse me, I have to shop now. :~)
Moffo in her prime. No one can touch her - she remains the best there is. Thank God RCA had the forsight to record as much as they did with Anna Moffo, leaving us this wealth of vocal treasures. This truly is the best version of Caro Nome.
Almost surely! Today, I read about her in Traviata. It said "she hasn't got a strong-enough voice to sing 'Sempre libera'; she is good in pieces which require a little weaker voice, like Rigoletto", and it is true. Makes all the sense. Amazing!
The attack, the legato, the PPP are velvet and crystal pure. A great recording. Too bad that over time, her career deteriorated and strained her beautiful instrument. The way this is sung is pure belcanto, a method she further developed with M° Luigi Ricci. The middle range of the voice is so exquisitely sensuous and the top is glorious. Beautiful rendition. And yes, if she were still around, she would make certain current "dive" feel like young aspiring students in a music conservatory.
I have this recording (with Robert Merrill and a young Alfredo Kraus). I have several Rigoletto recordings and I think Moffo is possibly the best Gilda. She certainly has the lyricism for this young girl as well as plenty of coloratura (as this excerpt shows). She also has spunck and enough fullness of tone for the more dramatic moments. And that is only on a recording (without the benefit of her excellent acting and gorgeous self). If she were around today, she would put Netrebko to sharme.
perfetta:)
