  • Michael Crawford is an Amazing Singer, but I just can't listen to him sing this without just thinking "What is the Phantom doing in Les Mis?"

  • what is a vijun? who is phantom? and what the meep is les mis??? (sorry, i just found out about michal crawford.) vocie of a angel.

  • is michal crawford still alive? cause if he is i want to meet him.

  • This... Just, I love it so much. I don't know, It is just beautiful. Michael is beautiful! It made me cry :'))

  • I love him in Phantom, but I just can't see him as Valjean.

  • A talented man and a wonderful show, I bought 100s of tickets for Les Mis to send bus loads of people to see it.

  • A talented man and a wonderful show

  • Get Alfie Bowie, Colm Wilkinson and Michael Crawford together to sing this and the whole world will start crying.

  • He was the BEST PHANTOM ever!!! I wished I could catch him in concert...

  • I've watched Les Miserables in concert, and I'm even reading the book, but michael crawford is the only person who could make the character of valjean into a character I would auctually miss when he dies.

  • I like the colouring of his voice but I find that often he gets pitchy and he swoops into his notes (going up or down)...but it is just a matter of taste... maybe it's just a matter of the recordings not doing him justice. I recall listening to a bootlegged something from him years ago - and I was blown away from how different (and GOOD!!!) he sounded.

  • im playing valjean in my summer drama program this year. i am also anthony in sweeny todd. i have to sing this song and johanna. thumbs up if you think i can do it

  • wow i must of missed him in this version o.o

  • I love Michael Crawford but no one does this song like GaryMorris

  • amazing allround enterainer

  • It's bad that my first thought was "It's just the Phantom singing Les Mis..."

  • @mdhumway OK, as far as him being the same character in every role he plays, watch him in Some Mothers Do Have Em in the role of Frank Spencer. Completely different character than the Phantom. He voiced Cornelious in Once Upon A Forrest, again a different character. Plus he has an amazing voice.

  • @broadwaygirl84 ...and the White Rabbit, and Mr. Hackl, and Barnum!

  • @mdhumway He actually has great breath support.

  • @mdhumway ...right. It's not like Michael Crawford's voice is so good as to be insured for millions of dollars, or anything. And OF COURSE there couldn't POSSIBLY be anything in the fact that the entire world - aside from your oh-so-wise-and-knowing self - appreciates the fact that he's one of the most skilled and talented singers to grace this planet.

  • Never been a fan of Crawford, his voice is too tinny in my opinion, he does this well, but no one does it like Colm Wilkinson!

  • I'm sorry, but when I hear this I see a Valjean with a mask on.....

  • @ItachiUchiha2010 oh yeah just like when colm wilkinson sang music of the night :)

  • @ItachiUchiha2010 I WAS going to say that!! lol You beat me to it!

  • Colm can sing Music of the Night the way its meant to and Crawford can do the same with this OMG i just dies and gone to heaven. << is a very very very happy girl

  • @Admiralharu I disagree, Colm Wilkinson does a better job in Les Mis than Phantom.

  • Makes me cry every time i hear this song..The emotion in Michaels voice is awesome..No one can compare!!!!

  • its unfortunate to me that colm has essentially forced the recreation of jean valjean into a higher tenor part when it was origionally written as one of the lowest musical voices ever written. Yes colm is an amazing singer/actor and brings jean valjean to life, but its truly sad that such a beautifully low written song was never properly sung.

  • @immortalwombat10 wow i never knew this. jean valjean is suppossed to be a bass? why the change?

Michael could've sang this is the concert version key easily.

  • mmm not sure is his voice strong enough

  • @MsBoggins

I have to respectfully disagree. While I'm not an expert on Les Mis, This song sounds more like a prayer than an anthem and I think the passion is the determining factor rather than the absolute strength of the voice. I may be wrong but, I really like what I hear from him.

  • is it bad that i want his voice as my own when im a teenage girl? thats how perfect his voice is.

  • What a truly wonderful voice and vocal.. Michael is 'Phantom' but by God he would also have been a fantastic Jean Valjean, in my own humble opinion...

Sheer bliss *sighs and listens again* :0)x

  • @wenglishsal I agree! Michael Crawford would be an ideal Jean Valjean. :)

  • Amazing!

  • ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL - SUCH EMOTION - ONE DOES NOT HAVE TO WATCH THE VIDEO TO SEE THE EMOTIONS

  • fantastic, don't get me wrong, but I actually prefer John Owen-Jones' version. Michael Crawford sings it fantastically, I just prefer how he does it.

  • Michael is amazing.... one of my favorite singers of all time. But I can't help but think that whatever he's singing, he's still the Phantom... which makes everything just a little eerie.... haha :)

  • in a word perfect

    thank you for posting

  • I love Michael Crawford's CD about songs from the stage and movies. It is the one that I always listen to. His version of West Side Story songs is also a showstopper.

  • Hes a very talented man:) its hard to imagine him as frank spencer with a voice like this, he's an insperation to us all :) i like him x

  • MC sings this song better than anyone else I've heard. He seems to always be better than the original and anyone else's version. His 'Gethsemane' is mind blowing; you can feel the living emotion, and so beautifully sung.

  • It's so funny...the second he starts singing, all I think is PHANTOM PHANTOM PHANTOM!!!! Hahaha

  • PERFECTION!!!!!!!!!!

  • This man his voice is amazing!

  • i love michael :) but after hearing colm sing the part, it just doesn't compare. This is stay beautiful though <3

  • Thank you for this ! Michael Crawford has just the right depth to his voice & the light upper range to make this breath-taking. I'd love to see a video of him actually performing it! Thank you for such a gift to us all !

  • I officially love this version With Colm I am always too aware of his singing, that's he's singing in that crazy falsetto and at any moment he's going to crack. It's like watching someone walk a tightrope. With this one I can get lost in the desperation, and I am sucked into the words. It's a true prayer. The legato & the build are all perfect. The key change is a really good acting decision. He saves the fire for the bargaining moment, Let ME DIE! That last word, is so round and perfect.

  • @MrsRosencranz I have to agree with you 100%, and I'm glad I'm not alone. My favorite Valjean -musically- however is probably John Owen-Jones (I believe he sang Valjean for the complete symphonic recordings). Colm's version always seemed so thin to me, probably because he was, as we said in band in high school "Hot Doggin' it" : playing, or in this case singing it an octave higher than it was written to show off. Michael just sings (and acts) the song as written, you can feel it to your soul.

  • Not Colm Wilkinson dose not seem to have the passion Jamie Pugh has a better voice when singing this song but Michael has a fantastic voice along way from Frank Spencer

  • @terry63ireland did you just say that jamie pugh is better than colm wilkinson at this song???... are you serious??...

  • @bigjeffstar No Jamie Pugh has a better voice than Michael when singing Bring Him Home from Les Miserables It would have to a great voice to be better than Colm Wilkinson

  • @terry63ireland agreed! :)

  • Colm Wilkinson was considered the best, but hey! this is such a brilliant version.

  • Beautiful, so touching. I love tyou Crawford since the first I saw you in Hello Dolly with Streisand.. Thank you!!!

  • Michael Crawford's voice always gives me chills.

  • alittle slow.... but i love it!!!! He's making my heart melt

  • michael crawford will forever, and always, be the phantom of the opera to me <3

  • this song is fucking amazing!!!truly epic...

  • Nope, the Phantom just doesn't do it for me .. great voice .. but it just doesn't go with the music in my humble opinion.

  • @richieinca: I second!

  • Sorry, Colm Wilkinson blows any other version of this out of the water!

  • I love the "if I die" part! so beautiful!

  • Personally, I think this would have sounded better in the original key...When it's this low, it just takes away so much from the song. But he did a good job.

Colm Wilkinson still does my favorite version, however.

  • Michael Crawford is so wonderful singing this song. He would have made a wonderful Jean Valjean.

  • It's a beautiful version although I feel it lacks the same emotion that Wilkonson portrays, but nevertheless beautiful!

  • To anyone who's sent a loved one off to war, this song breaks your heart. I weep every time I listen to it.

  • Yes, this guy is a great singer, but there are two other versions here on YouTube that outshine it considerably--Colm Wilkinson and Gary Morris. And I here Hugo's working on a version as we speak... after that, everyone else can forget about it!

  • Gorgeous! His voice is always spectacular... How soft... He has an amazing capability to transmit a lot of emotions only singing..., and this way he fades his voice... Wonderful, excellent, superb!!!!

  • Wow This makes me proud to be English! Thanks for posting it! 5 stars!

  • love Michael Crawford!!! he is soooo talented! and his voice is absoultely beautiful!!!!!

  • I read of fans for Barbra, Elaine, Sara etc and Michael has worked with all of them, truly a star who holds his own. I still watch Some MOther's Do Have E'm when it is on.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love Michael...but on this one...not impressed. Not even Colm holds a candle to Gary Morris in this role. And I have heard many versions better than this one. Would love to hear Mandy sing it.

  • @Alwaysadf: OMG, Mandy singing this..we can dream ;)

    (Love this version<3)

  • does any one have the accompinment track for this

  • @rickeyd412

i do but its in the right key

  • @jesterimb sometimes they come in three keys, does yours? If not I would rather have something then nothing. Do you wnat to sell yours or can yo tell me where to get one? I can put the money on paypal for your convience..

  • @rickeyd412

no just give me an email or ill upload it

  • @jesterimb may have this track as well? you would be my savior. i have an audition in 2 weeks and i need the track. key does not matter. unless is it lower than this? thanks

  • could i please have the accom track colin plymouth

    ccp14h@hotmail.co.uk

  • @rickeyd412 I really need a good bed for the song. I have to perform this for a theater gala in about a month. All other versions on the web suck so far. I really need a good music bed for this.

  • @jesterimb can i also have the accompaniment track of bring him home? :P

  • Jamie Pugh, the guy from Britain's Got Talent owns this song... especially for somebody who isn't a professional singer

  • @rickeyd412 Now why the FUCK would you want an accompaniment track to go with this. This is pure GENIUS

  • does anybody know if this is on a performance track? It was done on Britians got talent so I would think it would but so far no luck

  • i have the record from his stage play when he starred with the unknown then elaine paige the show was called billy liar think i might make some vids of the songs i have

  • Love this guy:)

  • Goodness. It's a Sunday morning and I am sitting with tears on my face. Beautiful. Just beautiful.

  • remember him in Hello Dolly?

  • Michael sings this perfectly and with a beautiful emotion!!! bravo Michael. You would be a perfect Valjean.

  • No singer, male or female can hold a candle to Michael Crawford - it's no suprise that this version of "Bring Him Home" is so good. Also, the London Symphony Orchestra backs him up very well.

  • But he sings it at a much lower pitch than written. Wrong sound for this song, but I agree he's a great performer.

  • @gren61mus ... you're right... he's singing a full 4 keys lower which, I feel, takes the emotion out of the ending when someone starts to nail those high notes... Songs just don't sound the same when they are sung in the keys they aren't written in... Sing pianoman in G and see what happens... obviously Michael is great but obviously he can't hit the high notes or he'd be singing it up there as well... simple as that.

  • @klutz38 He can hit the highs he wanted to put part of him in this song which is what makes him such a good singer.

  • @LincTownCarFan Colm Wilkinson's version is as equally amazing.

  • @ladgrove85 Thanks for sharing your opinion as I did mine.

  • @LincTownCarFan i dunno...colm wilkinson surpasses him technically..

  • @LincTownCarFan I don't know, Sarah Brightman is pretty good. Which, of course, makes Sarah and Michael in PotO the best show ever.

  • @LincTownCarFan Ever hear Craig Shulman? He played Valjean all over the country. The best I've heard. Crawford is wonderful too!

  • I think he does a great job with this song. Go Michael! ^_^

  • I still honestly think Colm Wilkinson is a very close second to the current Jean Valjean (Simon Bowman).

  • michael is a wonderful tenor, but colm sounds older and more distraught, which is what the role calls for. however, they both sing it wonderfully (and, as a female performing this, i can't exactly judge based on true-to-character =pp)

  • the funny thing is, Michael is actually older than Colm, yet he sounds younger when he sings

  • i think it's mostly due to the depth that colm's voice has, there michael is moer airy

  • played this at me grandfathers funeral dedicated to his sons.....was not a dry eye in the house

  • well said Bobgirl. Fin!

  • Stop comparing Colm Wilkinson and Michael Crawford. They're both very talent singers who, for the record, have different ways of singing things. It doesn't mean that one is better than the other, it simply means they're different. Colm and Michael are both incredibly talented and I think they both did a wonderful job on this song.

  • I am sorry I loved the way Jamie pugh sung Bring him home , I thought it was better then the others..you probably don't like Susan Boyle either,,,,

  • Well said! I agree fully!

  • I died a little inside. From awesomeness. *swoonage*

    (I love Michael Crawford. Seriously.)

  • my opion is that colm wilkinson has done this song the best with such emotion and his voice is incredible

  • Phantom sings Bring Him Home, lol :D What a lovely lovely voice ♥

  • Shut up ya dick and get real. Colm Wilkinson is the man.

  • Michael makes me cry to "VeNuss123". He has a great gift and I hope he returns to performing in 2010!!! Brilliant performer and a total sweetheart offstage!

  • Once again...i am brought 2 tears

    by Michael's INCREDIBLE voice...*sniff*

  • Michael sings this BEAUTIFULLY and if the jerks getting on this site just to argue would shut-up and listen instead they would be able to hear what a fantastic job he does!!! Michael Crawford makes you feel the power and emotion in this song and the sob at the end puts a lump in my throat! Bravo Michael Bravo!

  • spot on!

  • Doesn't he have such a loving, romantic voice?

  • @nestersg yeah, he is so amazing singer:-D

  • humm I like Michael, but I think he could have taken more advantage of his ability to sing in a higher range for this piece on certain parts... any way there is no doubt that he is a good singer

  • Comment removed

  • Well, it's not in the original key - so he is actually singing quite low (key is F, so the last note is an F, rather than an A). It is either for a lyric baritone with a good, full falsetto (not MC), or a good tenor with a very good pianissimo head voice (I would also argue not MC). I basically do not rate Michael Crawford as a singer particularly - I think he is a good actor, and a very good character, but a young singer auditioning with this voice wouldn't get the gig...

  • I disagree completely but to each his own

  • I really can't understand why you feel he is not a singer.

  • Oh, I just listen to him, listen to real singers, study singing myself, understand what is and isn't good voice production, and that's that.

If you like HIM, fine (so do I), but I just cannot regard him as an elite singer. He is too weak.

  • Fucking assholes down there arguing and ruining the mood of this amazing song.

  • This is wonderful.....However it feels like the Phantom is in Les Mis.....too weird.

  • Colm Wilkinson does bark this song, and i think that's exactly what it needs when you take it into context, Valjean is cast as a rough criminal who has suffered a hard life, but has reformed and repented, there is always a little of the roughness remaining from his past and I think that comes across far better with Colm. This is more the "Gentleman" version, not such a good fit with the storyline but beautiful none the less.

  • Which was exactly the point I was making when I said he seems to have much more feeling for the song.

  • Interesting argument, although it could be challenged as being suspension of disbelief.

  • Michael performs this song with more feeling then anybody else I know. AWESOME JOB MIKE!!! Bravo.

  • Same question for you stookiebhoy...why watch a video of Michael Crawford performing this song or anything else for that matter if you have no appreciation for his amazing talent or singing. Do you go spamming the videos of anybody else whos done this song and do nothing but shove Wilkinson down there throats. Do you disrespect other artists or there fans or are you just a total jerk towards Michael and his fans. Maybe I should spam the CW videos and shove Michael down his fans throats. Bravo MC

  • I never at any time said I have no appreciation for anyone's singing you dipstick. I simply said that Colm Wilkinson seems to have far more feeling for this song so you really should learn to read, or else sack your social worker. And since when was critique translated as disrespect? You really are an arsehole son aren't you. Now go back to sleep ya fanny.

  • And the reason I watch other artists is to compare performance points, good and bad. This would seem to be a natural thing to do as a student of music don't you think? And when did watching become spamming? Does it automatically become known as spamming when someone has an opinion which differs from yourself? You arrogant egotistical halfwit. Sorry Mr. Webber I won't disagree again. Tit!!!

  • Agreed "CASPER10666"...MICHAEL IS JUST UNBELIEVABLE AND WONDERFUL. By the way why the hell did you watch this video. You obviously have know interest in Michael and don't give a crap about his awesome talent. Maybe I should throw a jealous tantrum and spam all the Wilkinson vodeos saying how brilliant Michael is. The only problem with that is that I respect both men as performers even though I enjoy Michael more. Beautiful and great rendition of this song by Michael Crawford.

  • Great performance of a great song by Michael Crawford.

  • Sorry "brisbanetim" and "MondoNutso"...NO One can top Michael Crawfords performance of this song! SORRY, SORRY, SORRY! Now if you don't like Michaels Amazing talent thats your right but let the rest of us enjoy who and what we want. Just don't watch MCs videos then and we'll all be happy. Bravo Michael-your awesome!

  • That's Mike you mean !!

  • No one can top Colm Wilkinson's performance of this song. Sorry.

  • Agreed...........Colm is just unbelievable..

  • Totally agree 100%, Colm Wilkinson just seems to have far more feeling than anyone else for this song.

  • Colm Wilkinson doesn't sing... he barks.

Ask anyone who has actually studied singing and they'll tell you this.

  • I have an MMus postgraduate diploma from the RSAMD so I think I'm probably quite well qualified to know that Colm Wilkinson is a fine singer. And anyone who says otherwise obviously has their ears painted on. What colour are yours noddy?

  • Aren't you just trying to use this situation to parade some diploma you picked up? lol

  • No I'm trying to use this situation to show you up for musical snobbery without the knowledge to go along with it.

  • You _did_ parade some diploma in knock knock jokes that you picked up from somewhere.

I too have thoroughly studied classical vocal music... but my education didn't end there. Singing technique is a development of an internal motor skill. It's not something supernatural like being able to vanish in to thin air or something. Nobody ever won the Nobel Prize/Fields Medal/Turing Award for it, either. You almost make it sound like the world would spin the other way if it weren't for singers lol

  • No my foolish comrade you have me all wrong. I'm not a singer, I am a guitarist, and writer, and in fact I don't even like sinegrs very much as they tend to be egotists. However, I do appreciate a good one, which Colm Wilkinson most certainly is. So get off your high horse before you fall and hurt yourself, as it's far too lofty a perch for someone as whimsical as you

  • Guitar? ROFL

All this time you were talking about some supposed qualification... a little word called "pretentious" comes to mind.

    Go pluck yourself

  • I enjoy Colm Wilkinson's voice for this song, and I think that if Michael Crawford had sung this in a different key, it would have been even better. Michael Crawford is one of my favorite singers, and I think he sounds lovely. Colm Wilkinson is really good at this song, probably because he IS Jean Valjean. Hehehe.

Likewise, I don't really like Colm Wilkinson as the Phantom. (y'know, the Canadian cast recording)

  • This was the recording that introduced me to Michael Crawford... and what an introduction it was! Haven't found a better performance of this song yet! The guy's singing is brilliant.

  • i love this man, He is the best of the best!

  • Me too. I've been watching behind the scenes of phantom and appreciate him more and more.

He also worked extensively with Torvill and Dean and can be seen rinkside with them as they received their 'perfect six' marks in the 1984 Winter Olympics

  • Los Angeles Times-For those who know Crawford only as the originator of the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," the range the depth of his performance may come as a surprise. His long international career stretches from English television sitcoms in the '60s through film roles in, among many others, "Hello, Dolly!" "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" to the musicals "Billy" "Barnum."
