I thought that Odin/Onyx said that the spell did not cause Gwen to love whoever woke her? I thought it was just a sleep spell?

Don't get me wrong, I do think that her love comes from her own heart, but why are they still mentioning these spells if it's not true?

He didn't tell her that that spell was a lie for ambiguous reasons. My guess is it was at least partially to protect her from Onyx and Odin.

It could be so as not to influence whether or not she wound up loving him, but the logic there would be flawed--letting her mistakenly think the decision was taken out of her hands to enable her to make the decision herself? I dunno. Let's chalk it up to Oswald not being terribly bright.
