Google Porter Grainger then click on the link to McTell in the first website about Saint James Infirmary & that documents that Willie didn't actually record Crapshooter until 1940 tho he did record "Dying Gambler" in 1935 (a different song).

@sirkickbutt1 Look, I just wanted to pay tribute to a song I find moving. I transcribed Blind Willie McTell's spoken introduction because I thought it provided some interesting background information. I neither know nor care how accurate the story is.

McTell couldn't have "started writing" this in 1929, as I have a 1927 Martha Copeland recording with many of the same lyrics.

It was recorded in 1956 in an Atlanta store, and released posthumously on the 'Last Session' LP.
Blind Willie died on August 19, 1959.

AMAZING blues! McTell is one of my absolute favorites, although I listen to far more Delta Blues than Piedmont Blues. Thanks a million for putting this up!

Sounds pretty close to the version recorded on "Atlanta Twelve Strings". Still very good, though.

@Hamsterzilla1349 That one was recorded in 1949 but not released until 1962. The song predates Willie tho.
