This wonderful performance brings the composition's prodigious richness alive: it is so coherent and so convincingly shaped that it does not even seem long; profound, but not sententious, exciting and passionate but not frenetic, wonderfully tender but not sentimental. No bombast here, no empty bravura. Pure joy for the listener!
Liszt's music and reputation has suffered a great deal in the hands of performers who treat it as a means of showing off their virtuosity.
Imagine my utter surprise and delight, while listening on YouTube to Liszt's dark Rhapsody #17 d minor performed by my late husband, as I happened to look to the right and saw the above posted by you! Bless you. I wonder if you know his VOX recordings of several others of the Rhapsodies?
excellent performance, great recording. thanks!
