@BJunaibi you are mistaken my good friend, Requiem is 1:11 and track 6 on the album Orchid and following Requiem is The apostle in triumph and that song is 13:01 and track 7 on the album but requiem leads right into track 7, so i can see how this may confuse some. But that just shows how absolutely fucking insane they are to be able to make such smooth transitions that some may think its one song!! Simply amazing in my opinion
@ToBidYouFarewell99 yep, my friend was playing it in the car and i just didn't know, the transition was amazing indeed!! i'm an Opeth noob >_< sorry, but i really like all the tracks i've heard so far =) thank you for your reply ^^
Does anynone know what kind of traditional musical influences you hear in songs like requiem, harvest, etc. It's a sound I feel I should be able to put a name or a face to
@pepas346 IT DOES! Until the first fade out on The Apostle in Triumph is meant to part of this, but they had trouble with the mixing. Or that's what I've been told.
@pepas346 the funny thing is that it actually does last longer!!!! it was cut while they were mastering the album... the rest of it is on the apostle in triumph...
And i happen to have the "real" version on my channel if you want to chick it out...
@partynaked11 Well their riffs draw a picture in my mind of a lit lamp post standing alone in the raining night with a simple brick wall standing behind it: sorta like a London scene. And then the voice feels like a powerful wind and you can hear it's low humming as the wind drives around the lamp post and out of your line of hearing, but you keep hearing the wind as it slows down and becomes lower in pitch and speeds up and becomes higher in pitch.
You're right there was a problem with the mixing butthis was supossed to be the beginnig of The Apostle In Triumph. There never was supposed to exist a Requiem. =)
@Megadedly I'm sorry, but i think i'll pass on both the opeth and the meshuggah. why meshuggah is even on your mind I do not know. if playing guitar was all about 'feeling it' then some of the old black blues guitarists would be the ultimate guitar players. truth is, most of what they played is in "20 easy blues licks for you and your child to enjoy" song books.
you might play 'mary had a little lamb' with serious soul but the music is still three notes of mind-numbing bullshit.
@mackhomie I brought up Meshuggah because they are coldly calculated, and you are the biggest douche I've ever seen on YouTube, you are a contradiction to your statements as you are clearly frustrated, troubled, or just angry. Fucking retard.
@Megadedly no, I simply appreciate good songwriting and musicianship as opposed to music that lacks those qualities. i'm not sure what about this makes you so uncomfortable. anyone can play with feeling, it means nothing. you might cry at a piano piece while the pianist is simply reciting something he's done a billion times and daydreaming about pussy. musicianship comes first.
@mackhomie I'm not uncomfortable...I'm a musician and guitarist, I know the songwriting process, I also have many friends in bands, and many friends that are musicians. If what YOU listen to is simply passed off by the musicians as nothing, it's not worth listening to dude. You must be listening to some garbage. If you don't like Opeth, why are you even here? nobody gives a blind eye.
@Megadedly I have serious reservations regarding your guitar playing/songwriting ability and I don't care an ounce how many friends you have in bands. what are you even talking about when you say "if what you listen to is passed off by the musicians as nothing, its not worth listening to". I'm not sure how you concocted this fantasy or why you are referring to it as an event that actually took place but for the record, I am a flamenco/classical guitarist with a background in death metal.
don't get me wrong, there was a time when I knew just about every opeth song there was on guitar and played them often, which is why I can forgive you for (presumably) being young and listening to them yourself. listening to this song makes me chuckle though, as it is arranged in the same way I wrote everything as a middle schooler.
@Megadedly I'm aware of that - my comments were not insulting the song but rather the idea that having feeling is more important than being able to play the instrument.
What a beautiful and calming piece. It's kind of sad in a way too.

Not really... what happened is that requiem is supposed to be the last track, but the guys in the production screwed everything.
