No one is saying that there are no light skinned people in Mexico. But what irritates me about Mexican tv is that they dont portray the diversity that Mexico has to offer. I mean um hello? The indigenous of Mexico were dark. I think it would be more than fair to let people of color in mainstream television. I think it'd be neat if mainstream Mexican television that's aimed for a youthful audience portray more of the real culture Mexico has to offer, instead of this assimilated western crap.
@Imkyleigh4kife what were you expecting? An army of salma hayecks? LMFAO They look Mexican to me, specially because of that "trigueña" skin colour, wat r u talking about
Thanks for the subtitles! These models are way more beautiful and closer to what real models look like than ANTM. The show itself seems much classier, there's way less trash and glitz so far.
@ImKyleigh4life I am 100% mexican I was born and raised in mexico, both my parents are mexican and also my grandfather and grandmother are mexican and my skin is white. Not all mexicans are brown. In every culture and nation you will find different physical features and colors. Here you are just falling into steryotypes of what mexicans look like.
wow!!! i wanted to see this so bad !!! i didn't even knw when it was aired.... i heard about mexico's next top model cuz the auditions were near my house!!! in plaza andares zapopan
The runway coach is critical without the drag-queen personality J. Alexander has. Thank God he sounds serious when correcting the contestants' mistakes! A runway walk is one of the few main skills a models has to hone, so the criticism given is not gonna be "whoo child! you look like you're carrying clouds!" but rather "stand up straight and don't stick out the hips at the end" The man is right about heels, you can't go on a go-see without heels since all fashion shows use heels only.
I gotta give it up to the show for bringing on women who have that typical face and body form necessary for European fashion. It's much better than ANTM's usual selection.
@hippocampus23 The whole idea of ANTM is to get away from European fashion. There is nothing wrong with changing fashion. It's the only way to evolve as a country. Or else...we might as well go back to living in the 1950s.
ANTM is not about getting away from European fashion. If that were the case it wouldn't be a reality TV competition. The presented intent of the show is to give many women a chance to get their name out there(the industry). The ultimate goal of any working model is to get to Paris, Milan, London or Tokyo which can take your career to the level it needs to be. You will be given jobs from underground designers or mainstream ones in NYC without ever having left the country. That's an obstacle...
...for one's career. How many winners from ANTM have not gone to Europe to model for top-notch fashion magazines? All of them! It's a shame the show places emphasis on the idea of the supermodel as being this glamorous, diamond-studded profession without mentioning the quesy catch: you can only make it big if an European fashion capital thinks you have it. How do you think the supermodels become famous? Through clever marketing skillls? Janice Dickinson expanded her portfolio in Europe....
...in Europe at age 19 before she came back to America and finally got signed with Ford Models. Europe is not just the mecca for modeling but it is also the mecca for fashion. Right now Milan is the hot ticket for fashion design. Traditionally, it was Paris that held the international title of fashion extravagance. In both cities it's evolved and American designers still go to those places to study at low-key or upscale designer labels. ANTM has showcased designers who studied in Paris...
...and gained membership to the council chamber of haute couture like Jeremy Scott. I don't like his designs but Paris is about artistic fashion as well as other types like mainstream and traditional (couture). Jeremy is an artistic fashion designer. Another one I can think of is Vivienne Westwood whom Tyra showed pictures of a runway show on ANTM. You can't get away from European fashion if you want to learn about fashion because Paris is where it all begin! Europe's prominence in fashion...
...isn't meant to annoy us Americans because the way we dress, think and act to an extent is derived from Europe's cultures. If you look at our historical immigrant groups the Italians, the Irish, the Polish, the Russians have all brought their influences to this country as well as their traditional(ethnic) clothes from which you can see in artistic or couture designer labels. Vivienne Westwood is a couture designer and is known for using the Scottish flannel fabric in her designs.
In the 1950's Pierre Cardin was working...I think. I know he is known for his artistic expression in fashion. In one instance he uses bread to form the outlines of dresses instead of using fabric! Anyways, my point is fashion will always be an European thing. NYC is known for being influenced by couture designers in Europe. Some of the upscale designers are from Europe and other continents! Dianne von Fuerstenburg is an example.
The women no matter where one goes are some of the most childlike people....it's ridiculous. Models don't scream whenever seeing someone. A designer would be irritated if that happens, hehe. Usually, designers, photographers and what-have-you are business-like when meeting clients. A model has to hustle.
Oh, I know :-). At least they look close enough to real models. ANTM always casts women who look ideally what America prefers to see as normal: plain jane.
