  • This man is Deep!!!!!

  • I WILL never forget or stop listening to Pete for as long as I live !!

  • All the best cowboys have daddy issues. Thumbs up if you understood this.

  • @howimetted - LOST reference?

  • The incense burned away and the stench began to rise........... Brilliant !

  • gamccoy, high school for me, but ya it rings more true than ever now...

  • De mis canciones favoritas de este gran guitarrista! Gracias Pete!

  • Cool song. they don't make them like this anymore.

  • ah I totally agree Fringe someone who sees my point of view as well

  • YEAH, Pete is awesome!!!!!!!

  • Recriminations fester and the past can never change

A woman's expectations run from both ends of the range

Once she walked with untamed lovers' face between her legs

Now he's cooled and stifled and it's she who has to beg..

  • what I dont get is for a guy that seems so prlific, like he can write a song just walking from the kitchen to the living room why he puts out so little material.

he seems so stuck in the past. I'd like to hear a CD of new stuff.

  • I LOVE Pete Townshend!!!

  • 4 dislikes???

  • Four Douchbaggers for Big-Brother (OWS losers) have spoken!

  • but then i think to my sliky

why spring sound slink down the stairs.

greatest funeral for a friend's chord progression

    since trousersocks

  • meant to say you wrote this song for in the year it was written

    /watch?v=Z5rGKrIpu4A&feature=related

obviusly time has passed, the mirror

  • pete of mind

    maximum pique plausible

    plateau osbcene volcano

    philosophical pencil tip breaks

  • you guys are killing me. I have been a townshend fan since the early seventies, but let's not anoint him kingship. A LOT of his music is hyperbole, though I must admit that Eminence Front gets my blood pumping

  • gamccoy, too bad you seem a mediocre listener - when I, other than you, listened to this record for the first time in my smalltown record store, i walked out like hypnotized, under sheer shock by these impressing ideas and tunes - walked into the streets of a disco stricken, bee gees dumbed and kansas, asia and foreigner stultified music scene in town - all the people whom i plaed this album here looked at me as if i was a martian - only my girlfriend freaked out positively

  • Screw the beatles. Pete and the Who rocked and were way ahead. Listen to the lyrics of their songs they still have meaning today and they can still play and sing not like Sir Paul.

  • @drizzo21 , hang on a moment ! SIR PAUL, as you like to call him, has written UNKNOWN gems of undisputed brilliance ! go and listen to them on yt - the man is over famous and underrated at the same time

  • I's a matter of the man against the world. It's just him or me...maybe you?

  • I LOVE this song!

  • God we've de-volved as a literary culture, the 'artists' of today could not conceive a lyric such as this if the ghost of James Joyce himself guided their pens.I stand in disbelief that this was once in top 40 rotation (and i was there) now it is the trite juvenile words of over-rated pretenders like beyonce, jay-z. little wayne, maroon 5 and whatever emotionally retarded cliches these fools are passing off as art.The folly of present day pop only makes this song stir the heart even more.

  • @TheFringefilms spot on, hands down, should be printed and handed out to all who love music. well said.

  • @TheFringefilms

Well said, mate! Couldn't agree more.

  • @TheFringefilms I couldn't have expressed it better if I had taken a month to work at it.

  • @TheFringefilms Yes..you could not have said it better. I can't think of anything good out there right now.

  • @TheFringefilms Well said Sir!!

  • @TheFringefilms You nailed it - just watch Bill Bailey on how James Blunt writes!!

  • my comment,sons profile!!

  • @TheFringefilms well said

  • @TheFringefilms Ironically, the "trite juvenile words" of which you speak are written by a bunch of forty something men and women and presented to these performers.

  • @BognarRegis my god, thank you for saying that ! i love this music and i love the new stuff. it's hard to compare the two....it is not the same time. music continues to morph and change. neither one is WRONG, it is simply, different. pete townsend, back in the day, had his nay sayers and complainers. it is a vicious cycle. just enjoy the music that you like people. thanks.

  • @curtiscrush "Wrong" isn't the word I'd use. "Superficial," "contrived," "pandering," and "unoriginal" are much more accurate words to describe the current pop music culture.

  • @dirtymeansteve okay. moving right along.

  • @TheFringefilms Well put. I was there too when great music by great artists still had a place in contemporary pop as well as maintaining the Rock vanguard. It's still remembered tho by countless millions who flock to this site to get their fix,(like you and I). All the crap music throughout the years has not endured 30+ years later like this music does and always will. Just be prepared for a new glut of tripe every 7 years or so that will be forgotten in 3 years. If that.

  • "...can't pretend that getting older never hurts..." that hurts...

  • omg memories

  • My soul needed this most of today. Thanks.

  • Flying V sweet pete u rock

  • can u upload Communication its bad ass :)

  • Drums are sweet! Damn.

  • @HardcoreFork Sounds excellent, thanks for this upload, can tell you put a lot of love in the sound...Peace, always.

  • 3 people are not #1 on the home team

  • Comment removed

  • One of the verry sad love songs.

  • I used to be scared by the 80sness of Pete's solo stuff (and how different it is from his WHO work) but now I'm completely taken by this song. It's just incredible. chorus gives me the chills

  • ~ VERY UNIQUE SONG FOR ITS ERA ~ The MANY tempo changes made this song stand out for me at the time. It also has an Intro that sounds like a completely different song

    GREAT SONG

  • This song brings me back to the era in the eighties late at night with my first love and we were leaving parties going to her house to get it in I always love you felicia life was good!!!!

  • hey pete put your music on itunes...there isnt any way i can BUY it!!!!!!!

  • @zappahart You can buy the CD or album.

  • @Shep9250 there isn't a store in the philly area that carrys any ...that ive seen pete cd!!!!!

  • @zappahart That sucks. Now your right, we need him on Itunes.

  • @zappahart buy online. problem solved.

  • @zappahart you can by his songs on Amazon (MP3 download)

  • lyrical rollercoaster. there's nothing like this song.

  • that picture of pete is fucking scarey lol

  • Going from "I hope I die before I get old" to being the person to best articulate it. Pete Townshend.

  • growing old, and then having the flame dimmer and die in a relationship does suck. he nails it in this song, front to back.

  • Pete has been somewhat introspective in interviews over the years, but I've always felt in thisalbum "All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes," along with the album, "Empty Glass," we get a glimpse of who Pete really is.

I recall being some 25 years younger and thinking of how I would feel about the line, "Can't deny that growing older never hurts," 25 years later. No comment.

It's been a pleasure getting to know Pete through his music.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • Never ever will this song get "old" or "beat"!!!!!!! Just 1 of the best songs ever penned&accompanied by some of the best guitar&drum pieces ever!!!!!!!!

  • Tony and Mark from Big Country should of done more stuff with Townsend

  • jimi hasnt written a lyric in a long time....not really comparing apples to apples, i'd say

  • great song - soup to nuts - especially the drumming.

  • Very deep album, midlife crisis to coming off a drug addiction, Masterpiece

  • A poet, an artist, a musician, the man, the legend. All of these qualities summed up in one great song that spans the years, well done mate ~sjhgm1~

  • I agree, this is a wonderful song. Does anyone els contemplate their own existence this way? And the guitar at the end is some of Pete's most melodic. I fell in love with this song from the very first listen. Rock on Mr. Townshend!

  • Maybe not the #1 of all time but it's a lock for #2!!

  • This is one of those haunting songs that stick with you through the years. Like a ghost that just wont go away. Love it!!

  • My favorite song of Pete's. And my favorite of his solo albums, fell in love with the cover of it. Pete's eyes. Most beautiful blue eyes ever. All the best cowboys have chinese eyes. :) Masterpiece.

  • thnx

  • A true storyteller, they are few and far between and less of them everyday. Pete writes life while other write words...

  • Pete is/was the best song writer/rock composer...ever

  • @nycradiofree i agree great, but not best, I think Young, Dylan, Hendrix, and about 20 others. He's an all time great, but him not wanting to follow Hendrix because he'd blow em away at Montery always rings my mind. A coin toss my ass, him and Clapton followed him around England to every show to see just what the hell he was doing and still to the day can't do it and Jimi wrote much better lyrics, nothing against Pete and the Who...

  • @jczother jimi couldnt write lyrics for shit, he could never do anything like quad both musicly and lyricly, and he was doped up most of the time

  • uplifting song

  • Only many years later do I finally get the full impact of the genius of this song. When I was in Jr high this was merely a cool tune....Now I get it.

  • best way to listen to this is L-O-U-D

  • when this song came out i knew it didnt apply to me but may one day,and loved the song.still get the oh so final feeling today

  • The lyrics are mind boggling genius. Manm is this guy talented or what? I had no idea......

    Absolute GENIUS. Brilliant song!

  • this is, IS the best song ever. Brilliant.

  • Any man been maried, and devorced can relate to this song.

  • Cant believe how recent the comments on this song are, great great song, even greater man.A legend when there are no legends left

  • I was always afraid to admit liking this song when it came out and I was about twenty any my friends listened to edgier stuff. At 43, I can tell anyone who cares that this song rocks on so many important levels--lyrically, rhythmically, every way.

  • still the bbbbbbbbbest after all those years

  • @1fentenyl: You are so right!! Thruough the 18 years I was married this song rang so true. especially at the end.

  • I found this Album when I was 14 it was the first townsend album I bought. This song has become very meaningful throughout the 27 years since I first heard it. Brilliant writing!!!! Townshend is so under rated by the mainstream music crowd.

  • I remember when this album came out, I was saying, "Byebye, high school! Hello, college!" Lots of great memories associated with that album!

  • if there was a "superstar" persona that one might sit and share a pint or two...it would be Pete Townshend. A true self deprecating Lad, yet he can share so much with the rest of us. There will be other Pop stars that will find themselves at the top till the verymost. In the end as I'm asked to answer at the end when I pass, I will defend and thank this man.

  • this kind of music is a lost art...now we have kate perry, justin bieber and obscene rap "songs" *sigh*

  • @cruiserweight190 you know there is LOTS Of other music out there. why does everyone make such a big issue about what is on the pop charts. people are too fucking lazy to look for music. every day i keep discovering stuff new and old I didn't know about. i certainly know what you mean though i don't mean anything hostile lol....

  • Love this song...love him...

  • I'm about to turn 50---this song still rings true.

  • love it

  • Sounds close to resemble a Who song in title

  • FANTASTICA!!

  • way before it's time..Got this album in jr high..Nobody my age at the time got it or was into it...It is a song that means something to you in your teens and something totally different in your 30's..AWESOME MASTERPIECE!!!

  • This song also came out when I was in High School. It just goes by too fast.

  • "No one respects the flame quiet like to fool who is badly burned"

Words of wisdom. I also was in hogh school when this came out....this song along with The Who provided allot of great memories!!!!.........:)

  • looking back, the story of my life :)

  • One of the BEST songs ever!!!!!!!enough said:D

  • I dont wear ripped shirts anymore and i am happily married going on 15 years

  • What can I say? LONG LIVE PETE!!!!! LONG LIVE THE WHO!!!!!!

  • I agree with ya suitedaddyo. much more appropriate now i have a few yrs under my belt

  • Great song indeed...

  • A woman's expectations run from both sides of the range.......

  • i love PETE TOWNSHEND he is a rock god and a cool dude

  • Haven't heard this in 20 years..what an amazing song..made me feel young...

  • Simon Phillips' drumming on this track is a real treat!

  • Simon Phillips' drumming on this track is a real treat!

  • Simon Phillips' drumming on this track is a real treat!

  • Personally my favorite songwriter. I revere him as a musical genius. Him, and Mark Knopfler, of Dire Straits. Both had excellent solo careers.

  • always liked the song, but like alot of other posts on here, couple of relationships gone bad, this song really hits home.

  • great tune.

  • This may be Pete's best ever, including the Who songs. But I like that introspective stuff.

  • Beautiful song. Pete Townshend is amazing.

  • simply amazing song, and perhaps one of my all-time favs.

  • This song was ok to me, then I had a situation that hit me where this song was like the soundtrack to what was happening. Never heard it as just ok anymore. Great song, great writing.

  • This song is genius!

    It's so real...

One of those songs I never understood until I got older.

  • there is a longer version of this song, which is about 10 seconds longer.

  • This song came out when I was in High School, and the real images mean a helluva lot more now than then. I think this is a masterpiece; so honest and pointed.

  • @suitedaddyo Heavy song for a High Schooler to like isn't it?

  • @BrickLaneBetty Ha! Maybe, but it was a heavy childhood. :)

  • you all dont get it... its relationships are so fuckin hard and will kill u

  • not that great

  • One of the best songs of all time. Brilliant!

  • i love this song

  • @er20092009 A lot of Who stuff took the male accusatory position toward women. It was always a "guy's band". I would hardly call Pete's writing sexist though, he takes a lot of different perspectives it seems. Take a look at the lyrics to "Don't Let Go the Coat" or "Rough Boys".

  • Best song ever.

  • @ScottLansky this is so diverse to face the face . both deserve great credit.
