  • @AarynLovesYouh Thank you Aaryn!! I agree with you fully!

  • Being a Huntington native, I want to say, this is the most enjoyable video I have ever seen! Lots of memories. I am 72 years old and it made me feel like a kid again. Thank you so very much. Also, I would like to remind "EVERYONE" West Virginia is a state__we are NOT near Richmond or Roanoke..OR NEW YORK CITY! Thank Heaven....

  • @bobsgirl2005 Thank you SOOO much the the VERY nice comments! I appreciate them VERY MUCH! :-)

  • What a shame, my family is from Huntington going back generations. It's lately been overrun with drugs and gangs. The streets are getting meaner. My whole family has left, cousins, aunts, everyone. The city is losing its soul.

  • @sharonanne116 Such a shame that is too. Seems like Huntington joins many cities where the lawless are taking over. I'm so sorry to hear this.

  • The people in huntington are soooo FAT

  • I was born and raised in beautiful Huntington. Still my heart is there after all these years. This is still my heart, my most beautiful memories, In my mind I am almost there. I keep telling my kids, I just want to go home. Home is Huntington, W.Va.

  • @bishopmarylouise1 I am so happy that this video brought you a lil closer to 'home". It's why I made it. :-) Thank you for commenting!

  • @bishopmarylouise1 I appreciate the fact that you show off both the pretty and the gritty. In the place you're raised, even the gritty stuff is nice to remember.

  • I'm from Columbus (lived here my whole life), but used to spend my summers in Huntington. It's a great city, and I always love going there. A lot of my family, are Marshall grads, and I wanted to go there myself. I wish I could move there. As I write this, I have a craving for Stewarts Hot dogs. It's been a while since I've been there.

  • @userste Thanks for the nice comment!!! I've lived away from Huntington for over thirty years (Florida has been my home since). I know what you mean about Stewarts...LOL....the few times I've been back....it's the FIRST place I go..LOL

Did you know they have a website? You can actually ORDER the hot dogs online....expensive...but they can "scratch that itch" for sure!..LOL

  • @Scottiepoo5612

Where in Florida do you live? I left in 1977 and have live (existed) in Florida since. I recently went "home" and for the very first time I did not want to leave. Many occurrences attributed to this, however, "life" in Florida called me back but I am exploring returning to stay.

BTW, GREAT production! Most of the sights I remembered but after so many years several escaped me.

  • @rsc0155 Now in St. Petersburg. Left in 1979 myself.......got tired of snow and cold..LOL. Haven't regretted that move...but I do miss Huntington at times....and DO miss the change of seasons. Huntington is such a nice place to have grown up in. :-)

  • Very nice video. I was born there, my mom was born there, my grandparents were born there........Huntington is a big part of who I am. It's amazing to see pictures, and know exactly what they are of, exactly where they are and could tell you how to get there. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • @lyric1228 Thank you so much for the nice comment!! I too am from there...so I know what you speak of..LOL

  • Such a beautiful tribute to Huntington. I'm glad that you got a shot of the 20th St. Baptist Church. It is no longer there. And the Memorial Field House. It will be torn down in the near future. Thank you for the time you took to photograph and post the pictures.

  • @ladyb003 Thank you for the vewry nice comments!!! Alas...I can't take credit for most of the photos...just ones I found on the Internet.....But a few are mine! :-) Yes...the old 20th Street Baptist Church I remember very well......my aunt and uncle went there. My cousin's wedding was there in 1966 and I remember it as one of the priettiest weddings I've ever gone to. And the Field House is going too??? OH...what memories there as well! Thank you again for the message!!! :-)

  • @Scottiepoo5612 HI Scottiepoo, Yeah Marshall got both properties. I don't know when the field house is due to be torn down, but it is so sad to see it go. And the 20th st. Baptist Church was the first church I attended at 4 years old. Many memories, but we will always have them.

  • Thanks so much for this video. I grew up in Huntington, and couldn't wait to leave, but now that I've watched your video I remember all the happy times I had in Huntington.

  • @ktemene You're so welcome! I grew up there too....so I had the same feelings in making it. Thanks for your kind response!

  • Thanks for posting this great video. It certainly made me think of home... Huntington, West By God Be Proud When You Say It Virginia :0)

  • @tperry711 You're very welcome!!! :-) Thanks for the nice compliment!!!

  • -- Is that any where near Roanoke? -- ;^P -- Thanks for sharing! Great job!

  • @AppalachianFreedom LOL!!...I'm guessing you're from W.VA..and get that question a lot too....LOL......Thanks for the laugh!..LOL

  • @Scottiepoo5612 -- EXACTLY! ;^D

  • Huntington WV is my hometown too, thank you for such a wonderful video

  • @ericcjohnsonn Thank you Eric!!!!!

  • what is the piano piece played here? thanks

  • @chibimaru8

"I'll be Seeing You" by Newell Oler, album "Wandering and Remembering".

    Thanks for viewing!

  • Love this video. Only picture missing is a full house at Marshall's football stadium. That is also a beautiful sight to see all of us together in that beautiful stadium. Otherwise, excellent video!!!

  • @LisMU5

LOL..Thanks!!! If I could have locted a pic of that...it would have made the video for sure!

  • @LisMU5

LOL..Thank you! If I could have located a pic of the crowd...it would have made the video for sure!

  • Enjoyed this SO much!!

Born in Huntington and raised across the Ohio river in Chesapeake,Oh.

Spent many a day shopping in downtown Huntington as a child with my mother.

Although I'm only a couple of hours from there, I don't get to visit often and I will never be able to live there again.( husband is STUCK in Lincoln Co.)

Thank you for putting this together. It really help me "survive" another day in the "boonies!" LOL!

  • @alkolwv

Well...when I was five...we moved to South Point and lived there till I moved away to Florida in 1979. Even though I was just across the river....Huntington still was home to me. Thank you for the very nice comment!!!

  • WSAZ used the same tune for years to endear us to Huntington, it's culture and this wonderful place I was privileged to call home while growing up. Excellent tribute that brought tears to my eyes also! Gotta love this video! Thanks David!

  • @GASWyo

You're more than welcome David...I appreciate the kind words!

  • I live in a different state now, but watching this video make realize just how much I miss my home town of Huntington, it brought a tear to my eye and brought back some good memories.

  • @Virginiarm27

Thank you Virginia....good memories is what it's all about.

  • It brought tears to my eyes!!! You captured it perfectly. It's home!

  • @jamesc4wv

Thank you James....you guys keep making my days!

  • What a superbly crafted tribute to our city, where I've now lived for 51 years. You are a wonderfully talented photographer and videographer. Thank you so much for creating the highlight of my day. David Mills. Huntington, WV.

  • @davidamills

Thanks again David! I wish I could take credit for the photos....but they ALL came from the Internet with the exception of one or two. I had a lot of fun putting this together though..and the response was truly more than I had ever hoped for. Thank you and everyone for your comments...they certainly make my day!

  • This is an endearing piece. Thank you very much.

  • @allthingsandstuff

It is my pleasure! Thank YOU!

  • Scott

I was watching this again and its beautiful.....hey everybody Scott's my talented brother !!!

    love you Scott

    T

  • Hey everyone...This is Teresa! She was the inspiration behind my making this video. She and her husband just moved back to the Tri-State area last year, and I made this video as a little "Welcome Home" gift for her. So if you like the video, Thank Teresa! :-) Love you sweetie!

    Scott

  • I would like to say thank you so much for sharing this. I left Huntington over 20 yrs ago and have never been back. I showed the pictures to my 13yrold daughter and then realized that the first store my family had was shown! It was the House of Uniforms. Mrs. Jones lived upstairs and I remember her making lunch for myself and her. Thank you again!!!

    Lisa Grant-Richards

    Winter Park FL

  • Thank you Lisa!!

And would you believe I even remember the House of Uniforms too!!!

    Scott...in St. Petersburg, FL

  • LOVE your photographs and thanks for sharing with us!

  • None of the photos are mine. Two were taken by my brother and the rest off the internet.....but thanks for the compliment!

  • Thanks for your video. I left the Tri-State area in 1980 and these photos bring back a lot of good memories.

  • I left the year before you did...so our memories are pretty much the same I'd bet. Thank you!

  • I absolutely loved this video. I am a native Huntingtonian -- born and raised -- went to MU. I recognized every image. Was sorry to see that the Museum of Art was not included or its nature trails -- lovely stuff. However, thanks for putting this together. I'm going to send to my brother who lives on the west coast.

  • Thank you MM!

Actually, when searching photos online, I actually did look for suitable photos of the gallery, but could not find anything large enough to add to the video. I agree that it's yet another treasure that should be included.

  • ATL! West by God Virginia...you got that right! What a beautiful state and all that it has to offer. Those rolling hills fo WVa, that is God's country for sure! You all wouldn't believe how many people I have met from WVa down here in Ala. With coal mining and people up there moving down here...I have been stopped many times when I had my Marshall vanity plate on my car! It is a small world after all! Hugs to all...from near and far.

  • Thank you so much for this video and the memories it brought me. A dear friend from back home sent it to me and I am so thrilled she did! I am sitting here right now in my Marshall sweatshirt watching this with tears in my eyes. It is true, there is no place like home. I love the great state of Alabama where I am now but no place will ever take away the magic and love that Huntington and the surrounding area holds for me.

  • Florida is now my home, as it has been for the last 30 years...but it is nice to be able to return to good memories isn't it.

Thank you so much for the comment!

  • Thank you for the video. I grew up in Huntington and love it. I moved away in 1999 but this video brought tears to my eyes. There is no where like home. I am going to send it to my brother, too.

  • This is so well done and paints such a moving picture of the great town I was born in. The A&W was just up the street from my grandmothers; used to go to the Fredrick for bean soup; and Marshall University has a building named after my grandmother! Thanks for your attention to detail and for having such a good eye. You really captured many of "my" memories.

  • This is the reason I made the video...for all us "old" Huntingtonians to have a chance to "go home" once again. As I stated before, the photos aren't mine...just ones I "googled" for Huntington. Thanks to all the photographers who took such great pics!

    Thank you for the comment!

  • I left home in 1983 but I go home at least once a year to see family. I teared up watching this video. I remember taking the bus downtown when I was a kid and watching movies at the Keith Albee. My sister and I would go to the Burger King and eat and then we would stop at that candy store the one that sells peanuts and get a treat. Right before we would go home we would stop at the pet store that was down town and look at the puppies. This video really brings back good memories!

  • Oh yes....the Peanut shoppe in the arcade....remember how GREAT the smell was that came out of that place??

I'm really glad you liked it! :-)

  • Thank you so much. I've been gone about 16 yrs, been back to visit a couple times, and it always feels like Huntington really welcomes you home. Yes, you really did "do good." The photography is breathtaking.

  • Thank you so much! But I do have to say that the photos used here were all found on the internet, Can't take credit for any of them...except for my brother's photos of the house in which he used to live and the Peyton School where he went . I'm sure the true photographers of these photos thank you though. :-)

  • So beautiful and how homesick it makes me. I went to Marshall U, then called Marshall College. I worked at Heritage Village a while. I know all those sites. Oh, WV. I long for you. :)

  • And I remember "Marshall College" as well. Things change, and then again..they don't! :-)

  • @ima7lee I love the video i still live in Huntington but good to watch this

  • I enjoyed it but there were a lot of places I don't remember. To be honest, I haven't been back in a lot of years. I graduated HEHS in 54, left town in 55, came back and got married in 56. Probably was '75 since I've been back. Actually started getting a little sentimental about the place.

  • I left in 1979. so I certainly imagine that a lot HAS changed since you've been there. I guess the important thing is that some things never change about "home", not so much in the buildings or neighborhoods, but the memories that we carry with us. May not look quite the same, but it's still home.

  • Thank you for the memories. Having retired from the Army, I don't get back much. Some of the places are gone (Olympic Pool) but will not be forgotten. HEHS 68 was my year. The song is wonderful, my Father in Law would play this for me when we visited him. So many memoires. Thanks again, K J Moore, Jr (Chip)

  • Thanks Hiker!

Yeah, the Olympic and the Dreamland complexes are now gone...but all in all Huntington looks pretty much the same. It's nice to be able to ALMOST relive the good times there.

Now, I'm even happier that I chose this song too! :-)

  • This video is a wonderful tribute to Huntington and all of us who call it "home." I've been gone for 11 years but still get back there often to see family. Thanks for putting this together.....

  • My pleasure. :-)

  • Thank you.. I moved away in 98 graduated from HHS in 80. Can't get home as much as Iike, but you really captured what "Huntington" means to those of us who are far away.

    Deborah

  • Yeah...from all the kind remarks left for me here..I have to say I "Did Good".

    Thank you!

  • Thanks so much for this video - some very nice shots and great music. I was born in Huntington and lived there until I was 16 yo. My last visit to Huntington was in 2002, and I again walked past and through some of these same places.

    - Nancy

  • I had the same feeling when making it, walking down those streets again.

    Thank you!

  • What a wonderful trip down memory lane. I graduated for HEHS in '54, and attended Marshall untilll '57. I'll save this so that I can watch it again and again.

    Thanks,

    Roberta

  • Thank you Roberta! :-)

  • Scottie, I am friends with Nancy C and am from Branchland and lived in Altizer. Thank you for this, it is beautiful!

I also lived in South Point, what a small world. Londa

  • Thank you Londa! Yes..it truly IS a small world..(and please don't ask me to sing that smaltzy Disney World song...okay?..LOL)

  • We've been gone from Htgn. for 23 years and I still miss it. Thanks so much for the lovely tribute; the music is perfect.

    Sharon Gant

  • I was born and raised in Huntington and really enjoyed your tribute to our hometown!

I'm sure most people think "if you're from WV, you must live in a holler where there ain't no runnin' water like The Deliverance...right?" Yeah...RIGHT!

Thanks for the walk down memory lane and for bringing a proper perspective to a beautiful part of our West "By God" Virginia!

  • LOL..I didn't live in a "holler" until we moved to South Point when I was 5..LOL

And yeah...runnin water and even indoor plumbin too!

    Who'd a thunk it!

    Thanks for the great comment!

  • Wonderful video! I graduated from St. Joe's in '56. Now live in California and visit Huntington for High School Reunions.

I was equally touched by the Keith-Albee video. I had my first date there! Thanks for the memories...your videos made me misty.

    Sincerely,

    Mary Galardi Hogarty

  • Thank you Mary. Kind words such as your's make my day.

  • Very nice, graduated from Marshall 1981. I live in California now. Thank you it brought back a lot of happy memories.

  • You're welcome....thank you for the comment!

  • Very nice, but downtown looks a bit shabby. More of the beautiful neighborhoods would have been nice.

  • Well...these days, there is 'shabby" pretty much whereever you look..LOL

But if I had only shown the lovely neighborhoods, then the video would have been representative of any town in the US.

Gotta call em as I see em. :-)

  • Great job on this...found it on Facebook, and it's going around very quickly. You are quite talented at putting these together, I saw your Keith Albee video the other day. Another good one to watch.

  • This is awesome, I was born just down the river in Gallipolis. Beuatiful

  • I have great memories of Gallipolis as well. Lovely village! I remember going there on a field trip while in the 6th grade, going to the "Our House" Museum.......Thanks for the compliment!

  • Nice. I added this video to the test site of a new West Virginia multimedia web magazine called WestVirginiaVille (where there's quite a different musical take on a stroll through downtown Huntington). See it at westvirginiaville . com

  • Wow! This is where I played, walked, worshipped, shopped. It is so much a part of me even though I have not lived there for 30 years. Thank you! I LOVED it.

  • I love Huntington, it is where I was born and where my Grandmother and Papa lived and we visited there every weekend. My Mother went to Marshall and I did also for only 1 year. Thank you for making this beautiful video of a beautiful city. God Bless You!!

    Gale Vickers

    Houston, Tx

  • Absolutley beautiful! What a wonderful tribute to a wonderful city. I grew up here and am still here. With all the negative talk of West Virginia, you have captured the beauty of the cities here and the world can see why we have so much pride in our charming home. Becky R

  • Thought is was wonderful! Our niece, Jill Tumpson Rawe, told us about it.

The music made me cry! I've been in all the spots except the new bridge!

    Sarah Hardwick Bachrach

  • Thank you..Thank you! :-)

  • Beautifully done. But missing a big part of Huntington. The football stadium!!

  • Comment removed

  • Beautifully done, especially the scenes from the park. Huntington really is a wonderful place to live.
