  • Billy Duffy should own the Gretsch Guitar Company by now. He was responsible for selling more of those super expensive Gretsch White Falcons than anybody. I bought a Falcon exactly like Duffy's. Took me twenty years from the first time I saw Duffy with his Falcon, but I finally got mine.

  • i could listen to that lead over and over...such a lonely sound to it...LUV IT!!

  • The Cult put a hard edge on what was going on in the 80's . They drew from Rockers past, with great respect.

  • the bass is epic.

no one makes music like this

  • The bass guitarist does an excellent job....he gives the song so much backbone and support.....truly awesome bass rhythm.

  • THE FALCON FLYS WITH THE ROLLAND SPACE ECHO.? 80s ?

  • Hi to everyone, who knows what guitar use billy duffy? i want this guitar

  • @flagshipBarbarossa Gretsch White Falcon.

  • I'd like to know what effects he is using.

  • @bradh716 Flanger and delay, man.

  • Thought I was having a flashback.

  • Saw them at the Ritz NY NY in the 80's. Wow, we were blown away! We thought we saw Jim Morrison Re born........This was The Cult I'll always remember....

  • @1starcrown The Cult is like alot Aerosmith with a little bit Jimi Hendrix and The Doors. Most similar to Blue Oyster Cult.

  • the best track ever. beats the crap out of all the rubbish on x factor.

  • All of you guys are acting like kids don't respect this music and don't know about it. That's quite a generalization, i'm 14 and love hip hop, not any of that lil wayne, or crap you hear on the radio, but real music. I am a aspiring musician and am actually using the guitars sample from this song and using them in the beat of a hip hop song i'm making, the best of both worlds without ruining the cult. Great band. Great music.

  • the absalute besttttttttttttttt

  • The best !

  • This is what great rock music is all about.

  • its too bad his voice has gone almost completely to shit in his older age, really too bad

  • Bottom line is Ian and Billy are so talented, as or more than most bands but Ian got freaked out by major success even when he was younger in The Southern Death Cult which were as good or better than the other punk bands of that Era. Billy wanted more main stream Guns n Roses exposure and that was the clash between the 2. The Cult still makes albums and tour and are great live. You can't deny real talent !! Great video and version of this great song !!

  • Great song from The Cult. We realy like to keep the Cult alive in our country. That is why we covered it! Please let us know if you like it after checking it out on our channel. Please support us by subscribe to our channel.

  • Once in a while, a certain constellation of musicians come together. With different perceptions of sound and musical arrangement. On a special night they play their piece with some sort of a mystical energy. A classical moment is created.

You cant decide this, you cant plan this. It just happens,,,,,, once in a while.

    THIS,,, is such a moment.

  • @pbstratocaster Well said. So true.

  • @pbstratocaster Totally agree ¡¡¡¡ regards

  • @pbstratocaster and then the drummer moves to guns n roses and it gets even better! YOUUUU COOOOOULD BE MIIII EEEE IIEEENNNNEEE!!

  • OUTSTANDING, OMG, what a great performance, thanks for posting this.

  • ESPECTACULAR....,BAKAN...!!!

  • The decline of civilization is reflected in the music it listens to and enjoys. My friends, the here and now speak volumes in where we are heading. Thank God we have the means to immortalize music such as The Cult. Their music has heart. Their music has soul. I pray that we can one day return to those virtues. THE FIRE IN YOUR EYES, KEEPS ME ALIVE.

  • The decline of civilization is reflected in the music it listens to and enjoys. My friends, the here and now speaks volumnes in where we are heading. • Oh Fuckin yes! Air guitars out!!!

  • These Guys could really kick ASS what a sound!!!!

  • It lives in the twangy call of the deep towers and halls of the cult, dummy.

  • SNL?

  • fuckin trippy man..excellente

  • one of the best bands ever...where have they gone? this music was the very best!

  • i cant stop listening man !!

  • listen at 2:08 to that fuckin guitar man!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @456japan No listen tot he guitar at 3:10......

  • For some reason, the music indusrty( radio ect) has chosen to for the music of the eighties, with the exception of Classic Rock(same old shit over and over and over and over again), and its dissapointing.

  • SNL I remember being blown away by this.

  • the likes of x factor are denying the kids a musicial education mate and its sad......very sad

  • Ian was definitely influenced by Adam Ant.. You can see it by the way he moves.

  • This tune has been going through my head for the last three fucking weeks it is that good!

  • The best performance ive seen of this song, cant stop watching. This really takes me back to my early teens. Anyone know what he says at 3:17, i cant make it out in any of the performances iveheard it in

  • @nothingsshocking73: "boogie"?

  • @nothingsshocking73 "BOOGIE!"

  • class

  • I remember this song was on Dave Mira Freestyle BMX 2 a loooong time ago.

  • fuuuckiiiiinnn aaaaaaaaaaa

  • GREAT FREAKING BAND!!! fantastic song!

  • God i can NEVER get enough of this video, i agree with u guys, what the hell did ever happen to stuff this great!! GREAT GREAT band!

  • Saw Grand Funk live when I was in Germany. Awesome concert, Mark is one great front man, talk about energy! He was jumping up and down on the stage the whole time. Rockin'! And they get nothing but crap from Rolling Stone. Some people out there may agree with RS, but I'm just trying to make a point about today's music. Where are the critics now? In 10 or 15 years all of the great groups that we know and love will be gone, We have to make sure their music is not gone! My music collection is gold.

  • @richardthewriter I have an electric guitar soul. You have a writing soul. I'm a celebrity. You're normal. I'm honest. You're a liar.

  • @richardthewriter Lady Gaga borrowed from Marilyn Manson. Proof. Marilyn Manson interview youtube video.

  • i actually had this exact visual effect with acid once!

  • @spasmolytic2 LMAO, me too.

  • @spasmolytic2 its called tracers.

  • @spasmolytic2 Definitely the best.

  • @spasmolytic2 Just once? - you obviously weren't trying hard enough!

  • @jefsin1 Nope

  • detroit ,joe lewis arena ,1990,good drunken night, still have ian's boot from concert

  • Ian 'n The Cult SLAM. I was stage left, halfway up the stacks when I saw them ('86-'87ish). GORGEOUS!

  • What happened?

In my opinion 99% of the "musicians" nowadays are more interested in millions of dollars and fame than perfecting the craft of their art.

Rap is, in my view a perfect example. How many of us have seen or know others who think that they will be the next great rapper because they can spit out really stupid rhymes without any soul or talent, backed by music sampled (stolen) from people who can actually play an instrument?

I'm sure I'll get royally flamed but this is my view.

  • @PaladinMC8 the cult were real cool in the 80s hope u find it in ur heart to enjoy.......luv u lots fi scotland x

  • @tommy19691690 - Are you kidding? I love the Cult! My comments were directed towards the new music now. as a matter of fact I was listening to The Cult wen I saw you left a comment. Always thought like many others back then that Ian was very Jim Morrison. Who knew where it would take him in the future?

  • classico

  • rperelli, you are damn right on! The crap out there today is junk! Thank God I'm not a teenager and have to grow up to today's music. Is true rock really dead?

  • @HUCKSTER991 the rock that you and I grew up with sadly is dead and gone. there are no real original groups out there anymore. Sting from the Police just turned 60 recently and Bono is also in his 50s. Teens today think that Lady Gaga is original. Ha! She borrowed heavily from Madonna, who herself, borrowed from Alice Cooper. Originality is dead and gone and I weep for today's teens who have no choice but to be inundated wth Justin Beiber and Gaga.

  • lsd trip....

  • Doesn't transfer live here well. Should've done Revolution instead.

  • awesome classic video yeah!!!

  • yes

  • In this video Ian looks like my hippie sister.

  • Great song, Ian looks like a chick here lol, miss the cult, got go listen to sonic temple on cassette.

  • Very good

  • THE CULT still rules the planet !

  • the forgoten era of music

  • Impossible to drive 55 on a highway when listening to this song

  • @BrianMont1 HAHAHa so true, just tonight as soon as it came on my MP3 player, I stepped on that gas pedal!!

  • q bueno estuvo, gracias chicos!!!

  • Awesomeness!

  • Back in the 90's I got a copy of a VHS of this from a Cult fanatic friend, it included the SNL show ending where The Cult are with everyone, up front and waving at the audience. It was cute, seeing how they were up there.

  • i useda say my radio station playes good music... then they broke out this song, i now say they play the cult and people listen

  • What the fuck happened to music during the last 25 years??

  • @rperelli it's still out there but you gotta look for it, you certainly won't hear it on the radio.

  • @Krait99 actually my local radio station plays this song and alot of the cult.

  • @rperelli The music industry and audience impatience is what happened.

  • @rperelli ..Crack Cocaine, Aids, stronger Heroin, Kurt Cobain, Rap and Country Music actually being taken seriously, Corporate Greed, and " Joe "... "Joe Mama! " XD

  • @rperelli simply put sir it has been raped by years of the disney channel the retarded parents that pay to feed their 13 year old daughters' obsession with the jonas brothers/bieber rather than educating their kids about real music. So to summarize a mixture of failed parents and corporate greed selling sex to kids and capitalizing on parents' laziness.

  • @PittsburghPenguins02

I don't think I've read a youtube comment that's so sad as that. The sad bit is that I think you're right :( I love music and there are a few groups, today, that still keep the flame burning... nowhere near enough of them :(

It's soul destroying to me to hear the Biebers, Girls Aloud (are they gone now? Can I come out from under the desk?) etc. Music? My arse!

  • @rperelli its been raped by america

  • @rperelli fuck knows, this really used to piss my parents off when I played it full blast. What pisses me off now i am a parent...x factor the kids are missing out

  • @rperelli Like Prince said: The golden age of music was the '60's-'80's.

  • @rperelli Totally agree - we lost it somewhere !!

  • @rperelli Went down to the dogs. That's what.

  • @rperelli You got that right, rperelli. . . How about a lowering of standards for what passes as "music" today?

Thank you, MTV. You've truly aided and abetted the situation with the crap you program.

  • I thought the drummer was awesome in the movie Colors with Robert Duvall! lol

  • This is really a good live performance!

  • Fckn hell...varda the singer's Lionel Blairs! Clip round the ear and two years in the army would have sorted this shower of wallys out.

  • greatest song ever! full stop.

  • Love the psychedelic effects, on this video.

  • Steve Tyler ?

  • ..and the energizer racoon known as Ian Astbury just keep going and going and going...

  • @Frontier800 ...after which you have a nice cup of coffee.

  • I have to be honest I've grown up with this style of music. This is not the one I've heard on the radio at all. I am hearing this version and it's really awesome. I really wished they released this version it has more depth Love it!!!

  • They were just the best.

  • You've all seen him sing with The Doors right? Scary perfect! Like he's Jim but didn't die at the age of 27, like he's Jim's twin. What a freakin' talented exquisitely beautiful man. And I thought Eddie Vedder and Scott Weiland rocked The Doors, but Ian Astbury, OMG, he is spooky good.

  • Man!!!!!!!!!!! I'm having 'Nam flashbacks and I didn't even serve in the war.

I'm tripping like an old hippie, man!!!!

  • @SuperDrJeckyl Hahahahahaha...

  • The leading edge of Generation X (Born between 1965 and 1973 roughly) probably experienced the best range of music of any postwar cohort. Just an unbelievably good music soundtrack to our junior high, high school and college years. Music created from 1975 to 1990 was innovative, creative and it seemed like an endless number of musical prodigies.

  • @9t1Ei1Y2 As a member of the leading edge of Gen X (born 1970) i agree. We were blessed with the influences of our parents' music of 60's and 70's and of late boomers (folks born after mid 50's) who essentially made the punk rock/new wave and alternative rock of early 80's. Then we re-invented Rock with Grunge and alternative in early 90's just like the previous generation did with Punk. Our 1992 was their 1977. Just like summer of love 1967 was our parents coming out party.

  • the really neat part about being old is the experiences you've had.the 60's were wild as hell.you had to dig deep for good music in the 70's.the 80's had alternative and it was artsy.the 90's had it's share of ground breaking stuff including some deep truth in rap.my mind is always open.try mozart!

  • who came here by the noshafarin's feet? haha

  • The perfect rock band~

  • cardigan wearing shirtlifters....unbelievable how theyve turned into such nerds

  • I heard this whilst on the local rock station in New Zealand in February 2010 for the first time in years (I was in my 20's during the 80's) The station in NZ "Radio Hauraki" had a bit of a limited play list and we'd hear this several times a day on the car radio. Absolutely brilliant while driving fast in the twisty mountain roads. Would have been perfect if i'd been on a motor bike!

  • Legendary guitar riff.

  • Stunning. For some reason, Ian really reminds me of Janis Joplin here.

  • i'm a gay guy in my twenties, this band is way before my time. however... if the lead singer were to switch teams for the night and buy me a drink, i'd be sure to find his rings in the morning and cook him breakfast.

  • i post again just because i watch this every day .... no musician today is this good ...

  • the lead singer looks like a bitch

  • I remember when this was on TV...SNL. Damn I'm gettin' old

  • This is great drug music. I'd put them up there with the MC5, The Litter and Blue Cheer.

  • Layer Cake sent me here.

  • Wonderful guitar work on this live SNL version. What the Cult lacked in musical and lyrical sophistication they more than made up for in spirit, great sound, kind of like White Stripes. Rock at its core, the way it is supposed to be.

  • great

  • Brilliant.

  • Dance Moves!

    :55 - 1:15 = Shakira

    1:15 - 1:22 = Axl Rose

Top 3 favorite bands of all time! Own them all!
