  • Hillel was such a bad man.. So sad

  • I fucking love Hillels guitar work on this video , RIP Hillel you were the greatest

  • Anthony is fucking hilarious!

  • When Hillel passed, the Peppers lost a lot of their funkiness. They're still good, but I miss the funkier Peppers

  • @Orangemongoose1 Hey man, i agree and also loved much more old red hot times, but i believe that they deviated a little from the old funky times because they lost black music influence such as Sly stone or the Parliament as time passed by, and also hillel was gone. The one who still gives the funkyness feeling is Flea, you can see in this new song "the adventures of rain dance maggie" - if that's it's name the groove bassline

  • hillel is crazy

  • I found a vinyl of Freaky Styley at a cd shop. Now I just need money and my life will be complete.

  • @DL345 cant find it =/

  • @fowter1 Indy CD and Vinyl in Broad Ripple, Indiana is th only place I know of that has it.

  • Oh my! Hillel comes off better live than on album!! This is phenomenal!!!!

  • As a matter of fact, Flea stated in the liner notes of the 2003 remaster of this album, "I know the music on this record was just way too obscure to ever be popular in a mainstream kind of way."

  • I love how Hillel was so relaxed :)

  • what a freaking lame crowd

  • thats chili peppers ..... to me anyways :) .... awesome energy

  • Man, Slovak and Martinez are both masters of their instruments.

  • @Xiolablu3 Uh... this incarnation is Anthony Kiedis, Michael Balzary, Hillel Slovak and Jack Irons.

  • @GrandaddyPhunk No, its Cliff Martinez, look at the moose hat.

  • @Xiolablu3 Coulda sworn Jack Irons was playing with them when they did Rockpalast in Denmark... could be wrong though.

  • sexy funky motherfu**ers <3

  • FUCK YES, HILLEL.

  • hillel was so... FUNKY!!!!

  • does jack irons sing ... because he has a microphone on

  • @redhothellers thats not jack irons its cliff martinez

  • SLOVAK!!!!!!

  • Haha when Anthony goes 'Ohhh Slim' before Hillel's solo.

  • crowd is shit they have no idea what they're witnessing, i bet they look back now and think damn that was the shit why wasn't i on it that night!

  • Hah I love his Clinton impression

  • I would have gone ape shit if I was there. RHCP are so freakin funky

  • wtf? too bad that crowd is totally fuken lame, do they even know who that is back then?

  • TUNE THAT BASS

  • That's the way that you can use a wah.

  • Slovak was the man!!!

  • nice piano.. really

  • slovak was a hell of guitar player

  • the crowd.... wtff really?

  • dammnnn frusciante is a god, but hell, so was hillel. really dont know whos better. o fuck, theyre both fuckin amazing and this funk is fuckin orgasmic

  • wish we culd go back to the old days, no bullshit, just a camera a crowd and some real fucking music to get inspired by

  • Comment removed

  • HILLEL!! <3

  • NO CHUMP LOVE SUCKER is their best .....even though theve written better i Just like that the best since it came out have it on LP - GB

  • i don't understand how the crowd is so lifeless....... i'd be thrashing around like a motherfucker if i was at this gig

  • @HammarHeart it was '85 they were on the second album, people never even heard of the first really. they didn't understand how blessed they were to be there that night watching these boys, unfortunately. i would give the world to be in the mid 80's loving these guys from the friggin start!

  • Awesome, Slovak rules

  • Film Flea you cunt cameraman he's playin one of his craziest bass riffs and I'm missing it for Hillel pullin faces

  • Cliff > Chad

  • @Galzor Isn't that Jack Irons?

  • @TheRagingCheese - Nope. That'sCliff Martinez.

  • this song is just freakinfunkydamnILOVEit!!!

  • I remember back in high school when the old school Chili Peppers made me wanna rock out with my cock out. My friend made me a cassette copy of the 1st 2 albums and I was never the same again.

  • Gotta love fleas bass in this one<3

  • The Bass in this song is just... Amazing

  • What a stupid ass crowd

  • @metallikuh520 German crowds are generally more restrained than American crowds, so it's not like they're not enjoying the music.

  • There's only one thing Cliff did better than Chad does. Funny hats

  • R.I.P. hillel

  • Hillel was FUCKING GREAT!

  • awesome video...i always have a hard time find a RHCP performace with Hillel in it...R.I.P. Hillel Slovak....u were an awesome guitarist n u still are

  • Now this is just coool... love it!

  • hillel slovak was awesome RIP

  • This is why I started listening to them They're some crazy fucking amazing geniouses. My kind of music :D

  • Hillel was one of the greatest guitar geniuses of all time. There would be no John Frusciante without Hillel leading the way with his guiding light, the man was way ahead of his time. May he rest in peace.

  • the old chili's starter with funk then it became rock and now they split up

    john: solo

    flea: plays with metalica

    anthony: busy with his foundation

chad is making his own music video

  • @lotrlol they're back now :)

  • @lotrlol just so u know bro, they r making a new album, and the only change is john, they have a new guitarist

  • old chillies are better then mainstream chilis

  • hahahr the but naked?!?!

  • @hellkat008 old chilies are the best

  • Freaky styley was brought out in '84, this is in '85, your desc. says it was later on the album Freaky styley.

  • freaky was brought in 1985, his debut album, "TRHCP" in 1984.

  • @shawnzorf

I just checked Wiki. your right, I have no idea where I got '84 for FS and I thought TRHCP was in '81.

    Sorry.

  • haha, don't worry, i thought that give it away was on mother's milk album when i started to listen RHCP "seriously" :D

  • @shawnzorf

I love RHCP. They're my life. I just thought I'd let you know I replied, and, I love them. So.. very.. much.

  • on 2002 I went to my first concert, and it was RHCP. I was 7 years old, it was an awesome experience, but the setlist sucked.

and I started to listen RHCP by a mistake, on my first birthday party, on 1996, my uncle put aeroplane on the radio, and I liked that song, and at 1999, my dad bought me my first record, and it was californication. :D

  • isn't flea out of tune?

  • yeah a bit...

  • @drg92asturias yeah theyre all super outta tune. and by they all i do mean flea and hillel lolz

  • Is that Hilel Slovak on guitar?

  • Comment removed

  • awesome song

  • Wat pedal does Hilel use in his solo?

  • wah crybaby

  • if you look around youtube, I think just searching through any Hilel vids, there's one where he's being interviewed and where he specifically discusses his set up with some demos

  • It sounds like some kind of chorus, not sure though.

  • I miss slim bob billy he really made the chilis funky and he will always be remembered for bringing the funk to the peppers.

  • i get musicgasms when i listen to rhcp jst rhcp.. its like a warm tingle that goes from my stomach to my face. im 17 and play bass ahahah random

  • i know what you mean, i'm 18, and i get that feeling too, it's that strange amazing feeling that you're different but special compared to other people, you're the one who's not hypnotized by mainstream bullshit music... feels so good that we can enjoy some REAL music ;)

  • @brainstorm44 jesus i know what you mena i feel that all the time

  • @cannibalonXthedead

well i'm 19 now, but i still have the same feeling. Good to have you on our side!

  • @brainstorm44 you DAMN right my man!! WE are the TRUE RHCP fans if you ask me....We know about the GOOD stash!!

  • @brainstorm44 ohhh yes... i feel EXACTLY the same. rhcp for ever bro

  • @brainstorm44

Re Hot Chili Peppers are mainstream xD

  • @DosaAnekdoten

yeah but their old music certainly is not, my friend. I personally don't feel that much for their newer music.

  • @brainstorm44

oh I thought you meant RHCP in general. this old funky ass RHCP is really underrated, man. Peace ;)

  • @brainstorm44 Just because your music isn't popular it doesn't make you any better. I'm a die-hard Chilis fan, I have all of their albums, Freaky Styley is my favourite, yet I'm not on a high horse because of that. If my friends want to listen to Gaga, so be it. It's all music that the artist feels strongly about.

  • @BistroMcSex youre right. you shouldnt act snobby just because you listen to more underground music but it isnt "ALL music that the artist feels strongly about". its disgusting how many people these days are making music solely for money, Gaga included.

  • @brainstorm44 yeah, i just turned 17 and my friends whove never heard their songs except tell me baby LOVE this old shit, im like an epic awesome virus at my school spreading this shit around cos me and my band play them at every recess we can, and boy did we played blackeyed blonde and out in LA!!!

  • @brainstorm44

    I'm 16 and i feel that too. ;)

  • @brainstorm44 yea it didn't sell well, so obviously its "real" music!

  • @brainstorm44 this isnt mainstream music? i think you are the one that is hypnotized.

  • @kingsyco963369 it seems to me you 're stupid...

  • @kingsyco963369 Not once have I ever heard this song.. or anything that sounds like this, on the radio.

  • @kingsyco963369 This was before they were mainstream faggot. This was in 1985 when they were a club band. Why do you come on here and post stupid shit that you know nothing about? I cant even buy freaky styley at the music shops around here, that's why I had to order it online. Original pressing btw :-)

  • @brainstorm44 hell yeah, man

  • @brainstorm44 Same story, but I'm 16

  • I love this song. This is one of my fav songs. This is also my fav live performance of this song.

  • what did Hillel throw away? a band that would become the best in the world, an amazing amount of talent, many hard years of learning guitar, lots of amazing jam sessions...

    the list goes on.

  • I gave this comment a 'Thumbs Up' But whos to really say 'What did Hillel throw away?' who knows, Had he not OD'd that could of spelled the END of the Chili Peppers COMPLETELY. They were a wreckless bunch of kids, unfortunately His death possibly saved all their lives and the music that we have come to know and love would not have been made possible without the Genius of John Frusciante, Hes truely the one that Made the Peppers as Mainstream as they have become.

  • ya but mainstream deosnt really mean anyhting...

  • True, but also false at the same time. the word itself is as meaningless as any other word, but the idea behind "Mainstream" in reference to what I was talking about does have meaning. It means that 90% of the people listening to the peppers now would most likely not be if Hillel hadn't died.

  • true very true, i dunno.... i feel alot of people throw around mainstream like a "genre" to me its more of an aprroach of money-making, formula music, more a culture

  • John Came into the band and took that Hillel sound and made it his own. Hillel paved the way for John and gave him something to completely amazing to work with. John took that and made it better.

  • it seriously could of been any of the three that got killed by drugs. Anthony, Flea, or Hillel it just happened to be Hillel's time

  • I'm not sure Flea was as toxic as Anthony or Hillel, I think he mostly liked to smoke pot.

  • well...I'm assuming that all three at one time or another took heroin or did some harder drug that could of led to their deaths.

  • Flea was def. a light weight when it came to using heroin, They used to make fun of him because they said "flea could throw up just looking at heroin"

  • hahaha if i talk about doing coke it makes me have to take a dump!

  • Should of been, could of been would have been dead .... yeah.

  • i wonder if anthony and flea ever watch old footage like this.

  • OH WAIT.. ? THATS HILLEL???

  • ya it is!

  • The lead guitarist looks a bit like Evil Jared from the Bloodhound Gang. He even has a similar voice.

  • what bass is Flea using?

  • its a musicman, i think its a stingray, but could be a cutlass.

  • if u watched the other videos from when they were still at this venue he also uses a P-bass

  • its because during buckle down he snapped his e-string. and later in the concert you can later see a stage hand putting the fixed stingray back during the very beginning of true men dont kill coyotes.

  • Comment removed

  • In some vids of this gig hes playing a p-bass but in this one i think hes playing a musicman copy.

  • WHAT!? You mean like an OLP or something? (not that I don't believe you...)

  • Not an OLP cause they weren't invented yet but something. Cause it defo doesnt sound like a proper stingray does it?

  • The video is old, so it's hard to tell, even for a stingray-owner (like me :P, love it btw).

  • flea uses a music mans stingray cutlass it´s a stingray with a modulus graphite neck.

    800 cutlass were produced

  • Thanks man! I've always wondered how he gets that awesome sound :P

  • kinda sucks hillel didnt do the monkey bit with them lol, but still a brilliant performance.

  • dang... tht's slovak... this is rare footage man. haha

  • Funk Funk And more Funk.

  • This one of their best songs from their best album!! Freaky Styley is such a funky album!! i love it

  • sorry but again gotta say sick song but already appeared on freaky styely day before

  • Comment removed
