  • smh when people don't get that the speedometer is in km/h, so 140 km/h is roughly 85 or 90 mph. which a smart car will do no problem... but its designed as a city car, for uses in place with congestion. Duh, its not built for performance, why would it be? cars aren't always about going fast.

  • Haha why have a 140 speedometer when it just barely hits 60. Haha

  • @karkid52 140 inchs per hour

  • vtec just kicked in everybody, thats about the same speed your top of the line honda goes wether you like it or not

  • hmm diesel or not its still a smart car aka making it a small piece of crap that looks like u cut a real car in half.

  • my vw bug is faster, with just 34 hp

  • 0 - 60 takes forever!

  • is yours diesel?

  • @777worldliner Hi! Yes. The one you see in the video is a diesel. Not sure how much faster [Can you even say 'faster' when talking about a Smart Car?! lol] the gas version is.

  • I like the diablo version with the hayabusa engine...

  • downhill

  • i drove one. the transmission is weird.. the sales person told me not to floor it because u have to drive it soft for it to work right.. i just laughed... not a driver car.. its for a liberal tree hugger

  • The salesperson was talking out his arse. On the mid and high range versions of the smart the transmission can be switched between auto and semi-auto, I think. If you put it into auto mode at a stand and then floor it, the turbo kicks in and propells the car forward... and it is actually quite fast, my mother has one. The best way to get most speed out of the smart is really late shifting.

  • @jballard52 a "tree hugger" as you call it is also almost flooring a car (about 90% pushed down throttle) 'til ~3000rpm because that's the most efficient way to accelerate... i can just agree with you, the transmission is weird or with other words; the worst i've ever seen in a "car" plus the engine is too small (not enough torque) so you get just the same MPG as a much bigger vw polo bluemotion!

  • man i think the only way u could get a speeding ticket with that car had to be in a 1/8 mile long elementary school paking lot lol

  • ive got that colour

  • in which case, your a sad man and should have kept that lil snippet of info to yourself..... :P

  • cars are safer, even an old banger.

  • vtec kicked in ;D

  • wow that looks so much faster than the nsx you had lol

  • oh boy look at that break neck acceleration

  • its so dull and boring.... its not so smart when you think about it...

nobody wants a smart car... if i want ecoenemy ill buy an old mini or simular....

  • Or a bike.

  • stfu what means????

  • shut the fuck up...lol

  • lol

  • mhd ?

  • gas is back under 2 dollars, people need to stop complainin about gas prices already, i was payin 4.80 for premium now im payin around 2.08, people need to stop talkin about mpg already

  • you could save a bunch more money if you bought regular lol. unless your car requires the higher grade

  • nah it messes with my check engine light sensors, i don't mind payin just an extra 20 to 30 cent more for premium, at 25 cents premium costs only a total of 4 bucks extra to fill up my tank, i doubt i'll be saving a "bunch" of money

  • How can people have so much to say about everything. Just STFU people... Watch the vid. and stfu...

  • The toyota Yaris gets 2 mpg less, but carries 4 passangers and luggage. I guess if you have to ask why than you simply wont understand.

  • The smart car is 7,000 to 10,000$ atm...

  • thats why i use words such as "in my opionon" and "in not sure on that" just so that if i get any snappy comment back from gentilmen like yourself. im completly coverd in all aspects.

  • for the price... id never get one. they start around 26K in canada.. now im not sure on that. but a small car, small diesel engine, small tires that are REDICULISLY priced for replacments. to me, would equal a small bill. if the world governments want us to go green. then hows about making them affordable.

  • 26K?!?! WTF are you talking about.. I got my Brand new 06 Smart with AC for 19K after tax and transport from QUE to SW Ont.. learn your facts first b4 you bash the car.. As for going green, how would 111mpg sound to you?? That was my best tank and I do around 60-75MPG in city..

  • stupid beer can

  • I've been driving a 451 for four months. While not the fastest car on the road, if I'm first off the traffic light, I usually leave the pack WAY behind. Just because the 'pack' feels the need to be more feather footed than I do. Most any of them could kick my ass, if they wanted to spend a dollar on gas. Safety wise, think of the smart like a ping pong ball. Hard and light. Yeah, a heavier vechicle might roll it. Wear your seat belt. Even a Hummer will lose against a semi.

  • ZOMG SO FAST!

seriously though, if i wanted something that seats two, i would get a motorcycle for half the price of the fortwo that destroys most cars on the road in acceleration and still gets 50 MPG.

  • Might as well, ur prob die if u get hit on bike, and ur also prob gonna die getting hit in a smart car. id take the bike anyday fuck that

  • the smart in that vid is the ForTwo 450.

the current version is the ForTwo 451.

I they are safer than you think

0-60 in about 12 seconds for the For Two 451

  • yea there are crash vids of it on youtube.

  • Are there any smart car crash video;s yet ? I would not want to be t-boned in that thing

  • actually, the entire frame of the car is steel, so whoever t-boned you would lose. The only time the smart car would be really hurting is when it hits a non-moving SOLID object, like a retaining wall.

  • What I see being hit in this tuna can resembles placing your Cat in its teansport box and giving it a kick like a soccer ball , is what it will look like :)

  • even though it has a steel cage if a car were to t-bone it im pretty sure it will flip....trust me i have seen one in an acedent with a civic and the smart rolled like 4 times it wasnt even a t-bone the civic just hit it rear fender goin like 50km... but i agree the most damage you can get out of a smart is if it hits a solid non-moving object

  • palebeachbum, what are you talking about man. I dont know anyone who shifts that slow in a manual transmission. And this car slow acceleration is another reason why it is a waste of ones life to even look at buying one.

  • it only delays if you use it as an automatic...but if you do the shifting, it is just like any other car...you know, a computer can only do so much!!!

  • una smart originale non mi sembra macchina con cui fare video da you tube...

  • hahahahahaha wow.. if you guys are just discovering automatic transmission where have you been??? thats seriously been around for a long while..

    lol

  • che video dimmerda....

  • avrà fatto si e no 50km/h... merda

  • gay

  • nn va una SEGA................

    Bel cesso.

  • I would think that automated manual means manumatic. meaning you have the choice of D R P N etc... and then you can move the "stick" over and "shift" 1-2-3-4 etc... there are a lot of cars like that now. you just dont have to use a clutch (beacuse there isn't one) any more I guess its nice in its own way.

  • That's what I thought originally too, but apparently that's not the case. From what I understand, it's not designed like an automatic transmission at all. It's essentially a manual transmission that clutches itself automatically, which is why it has such a delay between changing gears, similar to acceleration in a manual car. They should have just used a traditional automatic with a manumatic shifter. I think that would have made a lot more sense. This is why they call it "automated manual"

  • The delay with the Smart gearbox is 3-4 times longer than the delay with a (superior) manual transmission. I drive one for work everyday and it's the bain of my existence! It takes 2 seconds to change otherwise it's acceleration figures might actually be respectable. One plus point of the gearbox though is that it allows you to select Neutral whilst moving saving on petrol. Manual all the way though.

  • Judging by this vid, you're greatly exaggerating. Most people who drive manuals don't even shift as quickly as this Smart is shifting. Beside, if it was only sold with a true manual gearbox, their sales wouldn't be nearly as great in the U.S. The vast majority of Americans drive automatics.

  • Awayandbileyerheed!

An 80 year old librarian could change quicker than that car. A quick change with a manual'll take less than half-a-second. You need a stopwatch to measure the smarts time.

  • yeah i dont think anyone buying one of these disgusting cars is gonna be too concerned about acceleration figures.

  • Semi automatic = Manual shifting without clutch. (E-Gear, Tiptronic)

  • ahahahaa nn va una figa!!!!!!!!!

  • si dice cazzo, non va un cazzo e non figa!

  • hahahah lool

    don't go so fast

  • that vid sucked

  • Is that manual with shift paddles?

  • Actually - it's an automatic with shift paddles. It should be noted that the SMART car you see in the video is NOT the one for sale in the U.S. The SMART now sold in the U.S. is the all-new version. The one in the video - the old version - has a diesel engine. The new smart does not. [At least not the one now sold in the U.S. and Canada] Craig!! :o)

  • So the US one is manual with shift paddles correct? I reserved my car like on September and expect it would be automatic, and to get it on April, and looking at the description of the car about a week ago, it says something about manual with shift paddles. Either way it's not a problem, but I'd be eager to know if it's really a manual or not. Thanks!

  • It says:

    5 speed automated manual transmission

    Paddle shifters

Would that be different than the Canadian smart?

  • From what I understand - what 'automated manual' means is a transmission with a clutch that YOU don't operate. In other words - there is no actual clutch pedal. I hope that makes sense. If I can find more specific info - I'll let you know. Craig! :o)

  • the fuel economy must be amazing... its a diesel right?

  • you can almost hear the rubber bands

  • hahaha!

  • lol
