I had my rack and pinion replaced and now I hear this exact noise when I jiggle the wheel back and fourth when in park. So what could the problem be? I've taken it back and they said they don't hear anything.
Sounds like something I got on my subaru. Is this dangerous? I thought it was a ball joint, nope. When I turn right and straighten out it pulls right, when I turn left it pulls left. What do you experts think? Agghhh!
@PukkPukk that should b ok i think its just a simple adjustment has to b made
on the bottom of the rack and pinion there is a stop big nut on a adjusting bolt pull the stop nut and addjust it then lock it remember to mark the original setting
Seems like you've isolated it already. The technique of violently attempting to shake a wheel from side to side while the car is lifted, is a common test of a tight system.

Steering racks are shit. slightest bit of wear and they are so noisy when goin over bumps at slow speed. Just not durable enough.

if you move your tire side to side or shake with your hand ahh car lift up you can make that noise more easy
