Bbeal32806, Unfortunately the president cannot abolish law. The vote today was just to abolish the law the requires Don't Ask, Don't Tell. IF today's legislation would have passed, the military and president have the choice to maintain Don't Ask, Don't Tell OR get rid of it. They probably would have waited for the results of a military study now underway. The heads of the military are NOT going to do anything that jepardizes our wonderful servicemen and women.

Thank you, Sen. Gillibrand! I appreciate your work, but have to wonder why our President didn't just abolish this as he promised. Never the less, my father was a Navy Master Chief and was able to come to understand me and my life. I hope you can help usher that along in many other lives by restoring their personal dignity.
