we Kenyans in the diaspora sent about $1.3 billion as remittances, these was a major boost to our economy,it was even more than what was made by the tourism industry. We work hard and we love our mother country but we also respect our adoptive countries.GOD BLESS KENYA.
Thanks for the comment. The video was made about a year ago so obviously it doesn't relfect the current situation in Kenya. The original intent of the video was to show people the beauty of Kenya in general. That beauty is still there now, though you just have to look a bit harder to see it.
i hope it all carm down thare are nice peopple and i nice cuntry i have never been to the cuntry but i no it nice and i no the peopple are nice to i hope all the fighting stops a.s.p
i just got back from Kenya a few days ago doing a school mission trip with 11 other kids from my highschool. i think your video captured the spirit hope and love that the children and general public seem to radiate. well done you really made a diference to those childrens lives
"Sadly, Europeans (and, by extension, North Americans) have done such a spectacular job of raping and pillaging that country (and Africa) that just the people there trying to fix it, sadly, comes up short."
This is an awesome video, good job, I just wanted to comment, this is so weird to me, hehe, a group of 18 students, including me, built at Enelerai a few months ago, its a small world!!!
Let's break down the us/them mentality. This video shows the efforts of some excited whiteys heading to a far-off place to do their piece.
It's interesting that so many volunteers donate thousands of dollars to airlines so that they can make these gestures of world peace. I would like to encourage exchanges between places. People around the world can learn from each other - knowledge is not owned by any group - call them "rich" or "poor" it doesn't matter.
Skyscrapers have no soul. Neither do airplanes. These tools crumble without moderation and thoughtful intention.
This world is far from perfect - no matter where you are. Some people hunger, some people are depressed, some people are violent, some people are self-absorbed and greedy. If I hear one more person say "the developing world", I'm going to develop a hernia. I'll show them a country that has a vastly underdeveloped spirit - mine.
Hey Julian, good points, though talking about breaking down the us/them mentality and then talking about "excited whiteys" seems like a bit of a contradiction.
I like the exchange idea, unfortunately I don't know if it would have worked in the village we were in - there was a very strong "If one person does/gets something, everybody in the community should as well" mentality. Still, it would be great if people could make it work.
@KMXTube about the one person wanting something if someone else gets it, that's just how it is. These people have been reduced to begging, trained by years of having to please the government before they can get anything. Many communities have been marginalized in this way and I wouldn't blame them as it has become a matter of survival. Africa is in desperate need of new leaders and it doesn't seem we will have any soon.
@KMXTube Hey, Thanks for the response 3 years ago :) Sorry I can't resist a little ironic onomatopoeia ("excited whiteys"). I agree that the "if one person gets it, everyone should as well" is a real challenge. We have dealt with this with some of our exchanges. - Julian
You white people, stop showing animals and poor Kenyans. This is not what Kenya is all about. There is so much more than animals and poor Kenyans. Stop trying to make our country look like they need you. We don't. You are not the great white hope that you think you are. Please stop making our country look so poor. Go downtown Nairobi and show some skyscrappers sometimes. We are wealthy country in many respects. Stop disrespecting our country please.
I would like to say that Kenyans are trying to help themselves. We worked together with communities while we were there, as does the aid organization I was there with. Sadly, Europeans (and, by extension, North Americans) have done such a spectacular job of raping and pillaging that country (and Africa) that just the people there trying to fix it, sadly, comes up short.
Please do know that I have the utmost respect for the people of Kenya and put this video together to show that positive change can be made by working with communities, not by coming in and "fixing" things. Everything we did there was in conjunction with locals, who were some of the most amazing people I've met. The people I've spoken to who have seen the video says it has inspired them to help those who need help, not just in Kenya.
Why would they show skyscrappers in Nairobi? Those skyscrappers are sorrounded by souls who dwell in Kibera, Mathare, Kawangware, etc. Yes Kenya is rich but more than 60% of Kenyans are poor. I am not ashames of those who are poor but the greedy ones.
Hey man, I could only hope to one day experience what you did, I hope that everyone who watches, does so to the end, the kids clapping and singing is awesome!
ahhhhh I watched it again, and it made me want to cry, I feel so blessed to live in Canada, and it made me really reflect on how much privledge we have...you have inspired me to do SOMETHING. Great Vid.
