HA! this is not even on of my favorite songs off the movie but just now out of nowhere it popped in my head on some triumphant shit.lol , good stuff. thanks for the upload
This is pretty much my favorite song of all time :3 Who couldn't love Headwig? Especially when the chief comes in with his Farrah Fawcett wig wearing that sexy shirt :D
Saw it on stage in San Francisco - it was amazing. It was in a very seedy theatre and worked perfectly for the show. I knew the movie by heart but still laughed my ass off.
Although it would have been fun for posterity, I did not record any of the performances I saw.
Naturally, JCM inhabited the character of Hedwig and really put the show over the top.
The show really did have the feel of some gig by an obscure band whose frontperson offered, albeit creatively, too much information. The venue was ideal for it.
The songs are spot on and well crafted.
And, yes, I was duped by Ms. Schor's Victor/Victoria revelation at the end of that first show.
Wait, what was the last part? Victor/Victoria revelation? Explain!
Wow, you were part of history. The Jane Street Theater is so beautiful. They chose the location specially for the show. I bet it must had been magical to be among the crowd.
Lucky bastard! I'm not envious, I'm just happy to be corresponding with someone who actually was there. =)
If I had had the chance to be there I guess I would had been too hypnotized to do anything. :p
I'm happy that you went. I bet it was a lifetime experience. I've seen the documentary that comes with the DVD. That's the closest I've been to the off-Broadway show and it looks amazing.
Aside from the club-like look of the venue, it also had the welcomed touch of having an open bar.
It added to the show's ambiance that one could get loose (or tight, depending on one's vocabulary and intent) while sitting in the audience or at one of the cocktail tables on the second level.
Also, it was refreshing to see a drag act that did not trot out the usual cliches and references associated with the genre. Instead, a lot of references were made to rock acts and legends,
Love Hedwig! <3

Hedwig FTW!!

is there a specific reason that the actor who plays hedwig didn't shave his underarms because they're very distracting.. :/
AngiesMyGal 9 months ago
@AngiesMyGal Because she's German! Isn't it known that European women don't shave? I don't know, at least that's what I figured. =P

@aspectaleatoire That's just stereotype.
sinbysin666 6 months ago
@AngiesMyGal Gender stereotyping is so 1990.

@AngiesMyGal Probably to create the imagery of his/her prevailing manliness, because he is neither entirely man nor woman, but a fusion of both!

Do you mean that you didn't know Shor was a girl until the end of the show? Great makeup! :p

Brava, JCM !
I saw his show at the Jane Street theater three times (JCM was Hedwig in the first two visits: Michael Cerveris in the third).
The show rocked. It is a classic.
Kudos, too, to Steve Trask, Miriam Schor and the rest of the band.

Wow!
Lucky you!
Did you get to record anything?

Great.
Man.
What can I say?
Absolutely: amazing.
Thanks so much for taking the time to describe the experience. Did you ever wrote anything about it? If you did I'd like to read.
Kisses,
Carla.-

Yes. I was a copy editor/ghostwriter for three broadcast critics for several years.
The review for "HATAI" does exist in print form but I would have to hire Indiana Jones to find it among my packed boxes.
More accessible is the audio track of that same review (it was written for radio) which I could post.
I am glad you like my reminiscences. It was a fun time.
TumescentInNYC 3 years ago
Please post! I'd love to listen to it. Thank you!
What do you do know for a living? Do you still write?

Carla:
The print version of the HATAI review was located.
How can I forward a copy to you?
The message page on my YT account does not function.
TumescentInNYC 3 years ago
I just sent you a message with my email but I'm not sure if you're going to get it. Let me know via comment, please.
I tried writing it here without using the "at" sing but it wouldn't post it... Errr.
Oh, I know what, I'll post my email address on the description field in this video, OK?
I'm so happy you found the review. =D
