@sheilagraber Thank you, though I won't do another video with G&S music, as it could get my account suspended. While the D'Oyly Carte recording I used is public domain in Germany, it apparently isn't in the US. Ahhh... the joys of international copyright law.
You did a great job, I clicked on the link, not expecting much, but then I got a great cartoon with the great John Reed singing! Thanks for posting!
Didn't 2 operettas get recorded on video in the late 70s? Was John Reed still with D'Oyly Carte then - it's pretty likely, and does anyone have these videos? I'd really love to watch him sing as I was only 4 when he quit the company and I live in Canada.
Hi - yes these films were produced with sound trcaks - I think optical - but can't remember - I never got copies myself - someone in the South of England did it and sold them! Your own use of sound is GREAT I can see you are really keen on linking sound and image - excellent work..keep going!
Delighted someone actually bought one of my movies on Super 8 leon....loved your Flanders & Swann one of my favourites also..along with Victor Borge.. Cheers - Sheila
Hi Shiela! Sadly no I do not perform G&S as even though I adore it my singing voice is utterly atrocious! However I am a History student at University and I specialize in the Victorian period so I really enjoy unravelling all the period references in G&S as well as the wonderful music! I have just watched your other video 'When I Went To The Bar' and it was a superb as this one and I cannot wait to see the ones you have dusted down!
Many thanks for highly animated response to G&S. Have sent you "When I went to the Bar" I do have a couple of others I did years ago on Super8-you have inspired me to dust down ye olde projector and transfer. Do you take part in G&S yourself?
That was absolutley first class! As a Gilbert and Sullivan fan i can honestly say that I've never seen aything that goes with the lyrics od the song so well. Kudos too for the level of reserach into the small details like Mamelon and Ravelin! Please please do some more G&S patter songs! Thanks so much
Hi Thanks for looking at my film It is sung by John Reed a well known G&S singer. His words are so clear aren't they and quite funny ..not as funny as some of those by your favourite comedians. I have sent you another movie "Dance Macabre" as I know you like puppets.
I've watched this about 700 times and still crack up when I see the Major-General nearly poking out his eye with the javelin.

@gesamtszenario Thanks - you certainly know your Beings Animalculous ..
Your setting of Paramecium swimming to a G&S track was just genius..
Cheers Sheila

shibb90 10 months ago
@shibb90 It said 2x+2=12. X being the unknown value. In this case it would be five ;)

Who Released these on super 8? Would like to find one since John Reed has passed.
fyreopal7 1 year ago
I released them on Super 8 years ago..then re-shot two on 16mm- thats the two that are up on YouTube.

I have this on super 8 as well. Same reel as When I went to the bar. Sadly When I went to the bar is missing half its footage.. :(
Shiela: did you release your super 8 with sound? I see that my copy of the film has a magnetic track (can´t test it right now to see if it has one)

Hello Shiela!
I was hoping to find "Get a big top hat if you want to get ahead" or "For I am IKB" here. I've put my early Super-8 stuff on YouTube now.
