Enough of Christina! Joan raised four adopted children - two of Joan's children (Christina included) spouted the "crazy Joan" stories, and the remaining two (the "twins") were greatly offended by any thoughts of Joan being a cruel mother. So what do we have here folks? A draw! I give Bette Davis' daughter ("B.D.") credit for one thing - and one thing only - she wrote her "book" while Bette was stiil alive and had a chance to respond. Christina, you're now past 70 years of age - peace dear!
This is really a tough call. First of all, some celebrities confirmed Christina's accounts while others flatly rejected them. (Several on both sides were close friends to Joan!) The twins, who profited greatly from Joan's will, cannot be taken seriously. But what does Christopher have to say? Were any of the servants interviewed? Christina's credibility is undermined by a failed show biz career, her inability to write anything beyond Mommie Dearest that sold well, and a failed run for office.
Christina is full of shit. There is plenty of evidence to support that! If you don't believe Joan's other children (the twins), or any of her friends or those who lived with her, believe this: For YEARS, Christina has made a career out of trashing Joan Crawford! Since she can't get famous on her own talents, she's set out to ruin her mother. She even LAUGHS about her so-called "abuse"! NO victim of child abuse would make fun of it! NONE!!!
This reminds me of the recent case of the Texas judge that violently "whipped" his daughter and her subsequent posting it all on youtube (check it out if you dare) knowing that it could seriously damage his career. The talk from many people was..."she was just a spoiled brat and her father wouldn't give her that mercedes". Why would a child destroy a parent that has been revered by many? why, indeed......for revenge? a cathartic purpose? both shine a spotlight on child abuse...
Anyone that really knows Joan Crawford through biographies, interviews and friends statements knows that Christina is LYING. Just a bunch of outright lies over Joan's image. She was jealous of her career, and that's pretty obvious even with her version of the story. And besides, if she's telling the truth, the twins know nothing, right? People who lived with Joan don't know anything either? Who really agreed with that were Tina, Christopher and Bette Davis (Joan's bff, as we all know).
I see no reason for christina to lie ,I believe it ,Joan always looked a little strange to me ,remember abuse is hidden ,and the abuser shows a completely different persona to the public until the truth comes out and then at times it may be too late as the child can often die ,
@jennifer23ish I myself seem to believe it , she seemed a bit too eccentric about certain ways in her life. I am glad that Cristina finally let people know how her life really was. Joan had some personal issues in my opinion , and it was quite evident in some of her photos.
In my opinion, Christina is lying about being abused. If her allegations are true, why do her siblings dispute it? Why did she write the book after Joan's death so that she couldn't defend herself? Why are there new editions of Mommie Dearest that have additional parts added into them? There are too many inconsistencies and questions. I think that she's ungrateful, jealous of her mother's success, and is out for revenge and money.
@bloodncorsets -- Gosh can you take some time to understand family dysfunction? It is possible for children to grow up in the same house while having different experiences in the house. Some children are golden children, while others are treated as scapegoats. My mother was the same way and I can assure you that a daughter is never jealous of a mother like Joan because she is too busy trying to survive and fight for her own identity. SMH...
I guess if you lived in the Crawford house and you were bored and wanted a little enterntainment , put a wire hanger in your siblings' closet....sit back ....and enjoy the show....
bette Davis was destroyed when her daughter told of her abuse as well to her.. Barbara Stanwycks son Dion sold an article to a tabloid entitled "does my mother hate me?" She wasn't a stellar parent either. She never spoke to Dion again after that article. I can't think of anyone that came to Joans defense after christinas book. stanwyck and Joan were best friends and stanwyck stayed silent and it seems like she would have if she thought the abuse didn't happen.
@etexman020202 Myrna Loy, Marlene Dietrich, Fairbanks Jr, Ava Gardner, Doris Day, Gloria Swanson, Katharine Hepburn, Bob Hope AND Barbara Stanwyck defended Joan. :D (and probably other people too, I don't remember everybody).
JC admitted, lat in life that she had a drinking problem and I'm sure that had huge effect on her actions. I also think that Christina should have told her problems to a therapist and not the entire world. Doing so destroyed her mothers image, but it would have been far more beneficial for her to figure out what psychological issues her mother faced. Bi-Polar? OCD? Understanding is better than public destruction. Cristina's celebrating with 'anniversary' editions of the book is very telling
@dsflood , awareness is a big part of identifying and stopping child abuse - so in a way, Christina did a service to the public. Child abuse is not something that should be swept under the rug - the more people talk about it, the more the awareness grows. Yes, Joan was a great actress, but I don't think preserving her image is more important than addressing the issue of child abuse.
@dsflood Is part of therapy to tell your story. If this was a rape victim, talking about the traumatizing experience, writing a book as a way to let out, people wouldn ´t just say "talk to a therapist and shut up, don´t destroy the image of your rapist"
Also, before her mother died,a few days before it was mothers day so she sent her mother some flowers and Joan put them on top of her t.v so she could always see them while she lay in bed. Christina says in the book the last few years of her mothers life she felt the two of them had made piece and had got on really well so there was no evidence of her writing the book while her mother was alive.
Also, after Christina was told she had been disinherited, she wanted the public to know she didnt do anything wrong for this to happen. The very day the will was read, the news got to know about the will and told the public that very night Christina and Chris were disinherited.
Christina actually thought her and her mother had made peace before she died and was shocked when the will was read prompting her to display her anger in writing the book.
The children were cut out of the will because prior to Joan's death, she found out a book ( not a flattering one was being written). And remember Mommie Dearest was released one year after her death,
i think there were problems but Christina was probably a problem child....strong willed and insecure to begin with....but i doubt that Joan was as mean as they have made her out to be.....i think Joan was probably loving and Christina hated herself so much she could not give love back...and ended up bitter toward Joan...
I've read the book and still to this day don't understand why JC cut Christina and Christopher out of the will and not the twins. Anyone care to share?
@sweetcharlie63 Hi to all!!! ive got the bio "Mommie Dearest". It was written AFTER her death. Basically Joan cut Christina and Chris out of her will due to their behaviour in their younger years. Christina mentioned in the book if you upset her mother (Joan) she would never forget it. Plus there were witnesses that can testify that Christina was telling the truth. Her teaches at the boarding school witnessed for themselves Joan being horrible to her daughter.
I don't care what was truth on not truth it is in very poor taste to give interviews and write books about your family. Nothing needs to really be written that is negative about your mom, or dad, etc. I come from an old school background, don't talk about it and I still feel that way.
Amazing actress and human being. Where are the great stars now.? Bring them back producers. We need those larger than life 10 feet tall hero's of the movie world.
I don't think Joan was perfect, but I believe less and less of what her daughter wrote. After her claim that Joan murdered her Pepsi exec - husband, I think Christina's credibility was deminished. In any event, Joan is an amazing actress.
@reesescupbrandy1 Yep she sure did and at that moment, I questioned Christina's sanity. It was on a Larry King interview. Do a google search, you'll find details.
Ok, I'll do a google search and I will read the book. Joan is one my favorite actors and I know Joan's "Alpha female" personality wasn't a walk on the beach. Yes, she has problems, but something tells me that Christina is not all innocent as she portrays. Maybe she was abused or maybe she wasn't, but her behavior do seem questionable. Thanks!

@ArBoBsIsE I think the book was written prior to her death and when Joan found out abou it, she was cut from the will and Christina made this book/film for revenge. You know they say Karma happens to bad people. Right after Christina wrote that book and after the movie came out, she had a very severe stroke. Her other daughters said their mother loved them all and never beat them, ANY of them.
@Sheri451 and how the hell would the twins know??? They weren't even adopted yet and then were just babies when all this shit was going down...furthermore how the hell would you know????
Only thing I wish is that Christina would have done the book when Joan was alive to give Joan the chance to either defend herself or take responsiblty for her actions. Doing it when she's dead was cowardly.

christine just wanted revenge because his mother did not leave a penny in my view, to do well .. she was a spoiled child and the film and the book is a bad example for a wonderful actress like Joan ...
I feel soo sorry for Bette Davis, espicaly how her daughter wrote a negative book about her when she was alive. I personaly think Bette is a very nice women. But How christina wrote about Joan after her death is still horrible
wow! This is a completely different style for you..fun to watch and I was in full suspense mode LOL -touchy subject with some. You did great with this!
I dont care about christina crawford either. what she did to her mother is unforgivable. I can see why she got a stroke after the book came out. karma is a bitch eh? anyways great video:)
@JoanCrawford1933 Stroke happens to lots of people my father had strokes and my mother died from a heart attack. So these things happen doubt it had anything to do with writng a book unless during time she wrote it she didn't eat right or something.

I feel soo sorry for Bette Davis, espicaly how her daughter wrote a negative book about her when she was alive. I personaly think Bette is a very nice women. But How christina wrote about Joan after her death is still horrible

It's cowardly. Joan even at 71, would have torn her up, so she waits till she dies.

foofwolf22: Yes, that's true it is truly cowardly. But im also glad Joan wasn't alive to hear it.
