  • What materials are those pennies made of?

  • @iamtheskp All copper, no zinc like modern pennies.

  • @Fiki2k7 Thanks. 5c ZAR, then ;)

  • Nothing, It is not effective & efficient.

Like buying a house but only to take the toilet alone, HAHAA!!

  • Am I missing something here, the sun was not involved here.

  • so theres a use for pennys after all

  • cool so what can I run on 155 ma?

  • @bridgeboy513 nothing.... while this method of home made solar cells is real, you'd have to have a few hundred thousand of them just to charge a cell phone... Do the math on that 300,000 * $0.02 It comes out to about $6000 just to power a cel phone. AND it would take up a huge area... For that much money you can buy enough professional solar panels to power your computer and then some.

  • Do the pennies eventually wear out due to corrosion from the salt water? Would this work with 316b stainless steel?

  • can i charge batteries to this solar penny?

  • ty for posting but how would someone be able to use this for home electricity. just two pennies wouldnt be able to do anything at all but guns suggested making sheets out of it, what does he mean? and how when you make the sheets would u beable to connect it to your home energy supply ? ty for anyone who answers =)

  • Well correct me if I am wrong - But the way you have the multimeter configured here, you are reading the current running through the circuit ! That means that the setup is actually absorbing 116uA rather than producing it. Prob some kind of Anode/Cathode plating process occuring - But there sure must be voltage somewhere.

  • You realize melting coins is a felony?

  • @craftmatic2 except pennies.

  • @craftmatic2 Now that's a real copper statement

  • @craftmatic2 oh who gives a shit about pennies, the goverment actwaly MAKES money for every coin of reserve note you destroy

  • very nice..how long could this run?

    how many volts?

  • how many would have to be done this way to produce 12 volts ? not up on all of this.

  • I don't know squat about chem or eng. so I appreciate the info. I have recently had copper glue seaping from batteries into my expensive HP 12C business calculator. So, when you want the stuff, its not there; when you don't it appears. By the way if this is a trick, this is the first time I have seen it. Keep it up.

  • the problem isn't the penny, it's just salt water battery, and u have to use 2 different metals to get real useful volts from it.

just a lousy old battery trick.

btw: dunno about american, but here in europe the cents aren't copper any more (to expensive) but copper plated iron.

So only thing to do is to use 2 different metal (and beware that u might produce some acids with it).

As y can win copper from water with copper by putting iron and electr. inside, the copper "eats" the iron

  • @momAFK pennies are copper plated zinc alot you know

  • @jjbently1959 thats why He said Pre 82 pennies

  • Adding heat accelerates the chemical reaction. Nice way to make the battery slightly more powerful.

  • ive just tried to make a cell using £5 notes and there seems to be no change ?

  • @hebay2 no, you gotta use 10 pound notes, less resistance

  • so... how many penny's would it take to get to 12v ??

  • very neat..and very easy to work out how much a large cell would cost to build..i wonder how long they last and if the pennies deteriorate in the solution

  • @hebay2 it basically works as a normal chemical battery.

it isnt worth the cost of the metal used to produce it.

  • great lets start building sheets of these and putting on them roof tops. Hey I'm not the president but if you want to elect me 2024 McCafferty for President.... you can do math.

  • i agree, .....i wish to be your running mate as vice president... can u explain about the sheets on rooftops to do the math?.....it seems interesting

  • so how many volts is this can any one help me please?

  • @maxey83112 its probably like .0001 volts. and even if it was 1 volt it probably couldn't even power a led because of how low the amperage is.

  • @maxey83112 I managed to get 0.5V from a similar arrangement, but the current was almost insignificant. In a Battery of course you would pile these plates up to get a higher voltage. I`m wondering if Aluminium Oxide would have the same effect as coprous oxide?

  • This is unique, simple, and good, unlike many of the related videos here in youtube that keep re-hashing the same idea.

  • how many Volts does this produce you say 150mili amps

  • No, he said micro, not milli

  • same thing. micro is more american milli is more uk

  • 1 milli... is actually equal to 1000 micro..., so it is definitely not the same thing.

  • heat the water, more power ;)

  • I assume the pennies consumed over time (or am I wrong)? Do you know how long it will provide current for ...days, or weeks? Interesting video, Thank you for posting it. One last question, when you heat it, do you know what are you cooking off?

  • cool man, this is remarkable

  • Could you double the amps if you put more pairs of pennies in series?

  • what if the water level was not above the treated unit .. but at the level of the treated penny .. would it produce any voltage.

I guess the real question could you just have

water sealed between the two pennys and hav it it work?

now many volts does it produce."

  • Any applications?

  • thats very nice

  • Does the uncooked penny have to be a pre-2000 penny too?

  • well a penny isnt what it used to be
