  • I TOOK THAT WORD.

    Anyswitch,

    this show is funny

  • Alakazam has shit Defense though.

  • Avenge the grr XD

  • It's because spearow is a flying type to and fighting is weak against flying so even through spearow is normal flying is used to counter fighting moves

  • Lol how'd you get your Pikachu to be suicidal

  • It was probably just a misspeak, but magnemite isn't a steel type yet in yellow.

  • 18:25 that's what he said!

  • get the other starters

  • People hated what the switch? Madness, I say...

  • dont you mean ekansonomy?

  • There's only one level where Roadkill could kill something 2 levels under it, that would be level 2.

  • .. Your ROADKILL got 3 crits in a row..

  • @namensklauer wow did you even watch the vid? He shows that it has 2 types

  • in yellow there were no double types, garados is only water, spearow only flying, ....

  • You think Alakazam was overpowered? RBY Mewtwo is the single best Pokemon of any Generation. Dare I say, RBY Mewtwo is better than Arceus.

  • @DriveInTake

Except I don't count Ubers when I talk about competitive analysis.

  • I wasn't really talking competitively, especially since Mew and Mewtwo were the only ubers in the original game.

  • does the mew glitch work in yellow

  • Yes. Any Gen 1 game.

  • Bug types were weak against Poison in RBY and vice versa

  • broken when its agaist you

    awesome when your using it

  • I have the episode when all they they do is hard and its the trainers that faint from heat exhaustion they were to say complete dumbasses

  • fighting attacks aren't super effective to normal in gen 1

  • @TheKillerplayer31

    yes, yes they are.

    bulbapedia it fool.

The only explanation is crazy glitch in pokemon yellow. :0

  • @AQWaddict No, I just thought Karate Chop was a fighting move in gen1

  • It should be regular effective cause it's not very effective against flying but super effective against normal so it should just cancel out or something, but it's 1st Gen so what can I say?

  • cuz Spearow is part flying

  • Pokemon green version gets no love.....

  • @Peckowillo

Actually, Green version was just Japan's Blue version. You see, when the original games were released in Japan, they were released as Red & Green. Japan's Blue version was an update of those games with better graphics/script. When Red & Blue came to America, the graphics/script used Japan's Blue version, but the Blue version in America was based off of Green version in Japan (for purposes of Pokemon locations). I don't know why they decided on Blue instead of Green in the US.

  • @TheKillerNacho im pretty sure it was about conflict im not sure ether

  • "im just gonna thundershock her little bird."

  • oh gud ur suicidel!

  • If I remember good, grass type moves were not very effective on a Gyarados in Red/Blue versions =/

  • this vid made me start to crave chicken dangit now i want to eat chicken

  • Zubat is the reason I buy Repel....

  • Flying type is weird. In gen 1 the dual mechanic is weird, in gen four I've been hit by wake-up slap while midair using fly.

  • @DoubIeRose wake-up slap always hits in the air

  • @tillapasta

why exactly? even swift, the move with infinite accuracy, misses something that;s midair.

  • @tillapasta Generation II

Same as Generation I, but the user cannot avoid Gust, Thunder, Twister, or Whirlwind during the semi-invulnerable turn, and will receive double damage from Gust and Twister, unless the flying Pokémon would not receive damage from the moves.

The user may also be hit in the air if it was previously targeted by Lock-On or Mind Reader, and then struck the following turn. Swift, Bide and Transform no longer hit on their own during the semi-invulnerable turn of Fly.

  • do you narrate while you play or after?

  • in the first gen, the super effective or not very effective message appeared when an attack was SE/NVE on ONE of the opponents types. however, the correct damage was still applied

  • "Oh your suicidal" HAHAHAHA A+ hilarious!

  • I like the word anyswitch :D

  • The dual-type mechanic in the game is really weird. If a move's type is both super effective and not very effective, it is either of those, not neutral. For example, ground type is always super effective on grass/poison, fighting is always not very effective on normal/flying, electric always is super effective on flying/electric, etc.

  • It's neutral in 4th gen, it's probably one of the many things they fixed in gen 2 and up.

  • Chansey uses fireblast

    Charizard DIIIIIEEEED

    You mad?

  • why don't you just put pikachu in the starage and get a different pokémon?

I do that everytime I play yellow, I replace it with Eevee later in the game.

  • the normal-type's weakness against fighting is cancelled by the flying-type's resistance, so it becomes neutral

  • Haha "he was just so hard... Heat exhaustion!" Definately...

  • In R/B/Y only one of the pokemon's type affects weakness and resistance when the two confict. So Spearow's flying type was the only applied in that situation.

  • the reason for it being not very very effective is because is really random, it suppose to be neutral like every generation after RBY, for example if you hit a zapdos with an electric attack it will say is super effective, when it should be neutral, is just random, some pkmn that should be neutral to certain moves are either super effective or not very effective, try a poison attack on a poison/ grass pkmn.

  • Should get a magikarp?

  • @chavaliay1

I was thinking about it, but I didn't want this playthrough to simply be a remake of my Fire Red one. I'm planning to only use one Pokemon I did in that playthrough in this one (which should be fairly obvious).

  • A suicidal annoying yellow rat named Roadkill. With his loyal friends RoyalPain the fail double-kicker, and Chicken who is actually not a Chicken.

  • or you could just give the girl an escape rope...

but since the game won't let you, i guess a black out will be the next best thing

  • Hey Nacho,

In Gen 1, types did not "balance out" type effectiveness. For example, a fighting type attack is not very effective against normal/flying types, while a ground type attack is super effective against grass/poison types. I have no idea how the game decides whether a move that would be neutral because of dual types becomes half effective or super effective, but there you go.

  • you should have gotten the magikarp b4 going to mt.moon

  • No! Don't stop saying any switch. It's your catchphrase. (:

  • Dual types on a Pokemon was introduced in gen2 so spearow is only flying type in this game.

  • @pokemanic17 have you seen the video at 10:40? he clearly proves that its a dual type. i believe the normal type on normal flying pokemon were just ignored for some odd reason until pokemon stadium came out.

  • Which do you think is more annoying, Zubat or Tentacool?

  • @BigAgentJ zubat

  • tow things one ida secodary type has priority over first type in effectiveness or it is just a glitch just says not very effective

  • Spearow is mono-flying, at least in RBY.

  • @BigAgentJ

Um... no it isn't. I even showed you guys in the video it was Normal/Flying.

  • @BigAgentJ there is no mono-flying type in pkmn, except for the new gen that one of the "legendary or legendary tier pkmn is a flying type only... the thing is that flying is more of an ability in my view then a type..because u cannot just have a flying type because the other type will tell you how the pkmn will look... atleast in my view.

  • @BigAgentJ There are no "mono-flying" types everything is either flying-normal or flying-water etc

  • @superspiderpig08 Not exactly, take Tornadus from Gen 5. That's a mono-flying type.

  • @SpielkissforMe He's the first and only so far, so I restate my comment only applies to Pokemon of the first 4 generations or all none Legendary Pokemon in general except Kecleon whose ability allows it to be a mono flying type (other wise it's a normal type).

  • It'd be cool if you traded your chicken with the girl in vermilion, you could get some originality and style points with the farfetched

  • @falconxbball7

Farfetch'd cannot be traded for in Yellow. Only Red/Blue.

  • I think it wasn't effective because normal flying is the only type in this game that can be not very and super at the same time, so we never noticed this, and not very effective would overpower super effective

  • paralyze + wrap = O_O

  • I LURVES ME SUM OF DAT CHIKEN. EAT DAT SHIT WIF DUH TOBASCAH SAWSE. EXTRA KRISPY.

  • Nacho, my uncle died 5 months ago, and one of the things he said to me before his death, that we should never leave what we started out doing, only to ditch it in the sand. He was referring to my school (I dropped out you see)

And even though it is quite blunt, I think it applies for you walkthrough channel as well. Please finish your HG/SS game, I think you will have the full support of all you subscribers. If you want to go out, at least do it on a high.

  • Double Kick wasn't very effective because on Spearow's typing, flying comes first, unlike now when normal comes first.....I know, I'm a nerd

  • @superskill123 Close, but no cigar. First of all, Spearow is Normal/Flying type in each generation, making Normal its primary type. Second, in cases where the game erroneously sends a "super effective" or "not very effective" message, the game mechanics will choose the coordinating message for which ever type has the highest ordering entry in its calculations. This means that the message that is sent is not based on whether the type is the pokemon's primary or secondary type, but rather...

  • @DRE9592 ...whichever of the two types it had to think about last. In this case, the Flying type had a higher entry order number than the Normal type, so the game sent the message that it would've sent if Spearow were just pure Flying type and a Fighting type move was used against it ("Not very effective"). But, don't worry, the game calculates the proper amount of damage (in this case neutral or 1X), it just sends the wrong message.

  • @DRE9592 I had the same confusion a while ago when I was battling on Route 15. I was battling Bellsprouts and Venonats using Acid with my Tentacool. I was surprised when I read the messages that a Poison type move was "Not very effective" against a Bellsprout, but it was "Super effective" against a Venonat. As you know, Bellsprout is Grass/Poison type and Venonat is Bug/Poison type, and both Grass and Bug type get 2X damage when hit by a Poison type move (in gen 1), so the order of Primary...

  • @DRE9592 ...type vs. Secondary type didn't determine which message was sent out. I was confused because, in both cases, there should have been no message sense the the hit should have been neutral 1X (due to Poison type doing 1/2X damage against Poison), but instead, I was getting two DIFFERENT messages. I figured that if the game was going to send an erroneous message at all, it would at least send the same message in this situation.

  • @DRE9592 Apparently, the entry order numbers are as follows: Grass type< Poison type< Bug type --And in this video's situation: Normal< Flying.

  • lol why do u hate pikachu ?

  • @CoZmo996 lol It was originally just kind of a joke, to lol at how Reece Benlier used a Pikachu, but he doesn't really hate pikachu this much, it just makes for a funny LP. Or maybe he does I don't know

  • @wiimoterevcon

You're right, I don't hate Pikachu as much as I pretend to. But he still is far from one of my favorites.

  • @TheKillerNacho actually i'm pretty sure you hate him even more than you say, don't lie. . .

  • @Duke9020

Haha.. It actually depends. Yellow version's Pikachu actually does hold a special place in my heart... (although admittedly, most of the time I played through Yellow, I'd just trade him to Red/Blue later in the game and evolve it to Raichu). My hatred for the yellow rat has more to do with how everyone else LOVES it, while I see it for what it is... a below-average (before they gave it the Light Ball) and not-really-cute pre-evolved Pokemon.

  • I gave water gun to a rattata, it was actually really useful for a while. I used raticate on my team =]

  • i dont care what ANYONE says, wrap was the ablsoute best move ever. as long as your faster, your golden

  • The pokemon's primary type is the thing that determined the resistances and weaknesses in the first gen.

Give this thumbs up so he sees this. or something

  • @Ruggington if that were the case it would have been super effective because Spearow's primary type is Normal....

  • @Ruggington but its type one is normal, its type 2 is flying

  • @Ruggington type 1 was normal did u even watch the video

  • @Ruggington at 10.39 you can see that its primary type is normal? :P

  • @Ruggington But that makes no sense, as its primary type is normal...

  • @Ruggington actually is the second one who decide the resistances and weakness more than the first one

  • @Ruggington not true. spearows first type was normal. and pokemon get 4x super effective with the likes of onix (surf) & nidoqueen (eq)

  • zubat sucks but crobat is cool

  • imagine vs a shukle epic special

  • Loving this lp

  • @TheKillerNacho

The reason why double kick isn't very effective against spearow is because in the first gen pokemon games, even attacks that are strong against one of the types of a pokemon but isn't strong against flying type means it will be not very effective. It's the same thing with grass attacks against gyarados

  • assisted suicide

  • @Straven93: euthanasia. sounds a lot like "youth in asia", wonder why that is?

  • So anyswitch!

  • Zubat is literally my all time favorite pokemon.

  • actaully i take that back i just saw the part where you showed its typing XD

  • there wasnt any dual typing in red, blue, and yellow. at least i think thats why double kick didnt do that much damage.

  • LOOK AT PIKACHUZ FAICE MOAR

  • NIDORAN!!! POISON BY DAY!!! GROUND BY NIGHT!!!

  • you should get mew

  • You should finish your SS/HG playthrough. You completely abandoned it

  • yo killernacho, i was wonderin, do you like pichu?

  • Comment removed

  • you could still make this a nuzlocke :)

  • the main type covers up the secondary type. its like using a super effective thunder bolt on zapdos

  • Fighting moves are always not very effective against pokes with the flying type, even if they were part normal, it's just a problem with the game. Also, bug type moves were supereffective against grass/poison types as well, even though they should be normal damage. I think bug was also supereffective against the ghost/poison types for some reason, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

  • killernacho :D ur lp is so funny! i love it :D makes me happy!

  • lmao Anyswitch so jokes i love that. It could be trademarked LOLZ

  • *Escape Rope

  • I think it is due to its second type, flying. Some genI glitch, dunno

  • amnesia was really broken in rby

  • @gleeson630

Yup! That's why so few Pokemon got it.

  • @gleeson630 Its like a super Nasty Plot :D

  • @kmilo0o0o0

    Basically

  • @kmilo0o0o0

And Growth was Calm Mind ;)

  • if u kick a bird in real its also super effective, so idk...

  • This game has got more critical ratio

  • If I remember correctly, it just says it's not very effective, but the damage is still like it's neutral damage.

So the game is actually lying to you.

  • TBH I cant stand the horrible graphics of Pokemon Yellow. I used to play Pokemon Blue/Yellow when I was around 12 and I loved them, but now it just seems bad.

But I enjoy your narration TKN, so thats the only reason I'm watching it, basically :)

  • @morpheas768

Don't judge a game by its graphics! Some of the best games ever have poor graphics due to be older. Its the gameplay that makes the game, NOT the graphics!

  • @TheKillerNacho like Earthbound possibly one of the best games of ALL time of ALL time!!!

  • @TheKillerNacho I know but, I'm a nerdy gamer who appreciates good graphics quality on games, and I love playing titles like Crysis, Metro 2033, etc

I cant help it really, especially when I'm playing Pokemon Black currently :/

  • @morpheas768 But pokemon Black's unnecessary continual battle motion leaves the pokemon with aweful blocky graphics-- almost as bad as gen 1 even though gen 1 is 16 years older than it!

  • @DRE9592 You mean that there is the common "staircase effect" because there is no anti-aliasing, like in many modern games. And of course AA is not supported by Nintendo DS's hardware. That means that basically most (if not all) 3D rendered games do have that graphics "issue", if you wanna call it that.

The developers could have added some filters to fix that, but we all know that these things do more harm than good on 3D games.

Pokemon Black/White's graphics are far more superior. True fact.

  • @TheKillerNacho i feel the same way nacho for example i have been suggested to play golden sun so many times in the past just because of its "superior graphics" but compared to really old games like pokemon and megaman, the gameplay was just simply inadequate

  • @TheKillerNacho lol thats why my brothers hate Minecraft, you heard of it? I wish my gold version was broke, can't save.

  • its way bigger in here than i thought ----- thats what she said

  • wait...

    YOU'RE BACK?!?! YAYAYAY!!!

  • Ahh R/B/Y, the only games that can get away with 240p

  • Can you even get rid of Pikachu? I've never played Yellow, but I never use Pikachu.

  • @Fuzzlekinz ya if you do it in box he won't follow you anymore but won't like you anymore slowly

  • @Fuzzlekinz

Yeah, you could technically just put it in the Box (or trade it).

  • hit puberty at 10? lol.....I didn't hit puberty until I was 13

  • @JoshMcRay Some people start puberty younger than others. I started at around 11.

  • @JoshMcRay

Some starter earlier. Ash is supposed to be like 15 by now and he's never reached it.

  • Comment removed

  • Why is Double Kick not very effective? The same reason that Ice Beam against Lance's Gyarados is super effective (judging by what I've heard anyways).

  • im not sure if it changes in gen 3 or 4 but in 1 and 2 even if it is normal and flying it is not very effective

  • Enjoying this playthrough!! BTW, are you excited about Pokemon Black & White??

  • It wasn't a neutral hit because in Gen 1 there is no two type neutrality. Hope you understand what I mean. Only one type counts in the math there.

  • when a move is considered for super-effective in Yellow, the base that off of one of the pokemon's types, not both. and why didn't buy the uber Magikarp in the PokeCenter D:

  • you shoulda bought the Magikarp!

  • Comment removed

  • I think Not Very effective has higher priority than Super Effective.

They don't cancel each other out.

    I think.

  • The episode you were talking about was episode 4 - "Challenge of the Samurai." Ash was challenged by a Bug pokemon user with a samurai fashion thing going. Ash's metapod used Harden which shattered the spikes on the samurai's pinsir's pinsir-claws. The samurai's other pokemon was metapod. They sat there using harden like idiots for a few minutes before being interrupted by a swarm of beedrills.

Yeah I know too much about this episode... it's because it's the first episode I saw as a kid.

  • Alakazam isn't that broken in the first gen - it can't do much against other Psychic-Types as it has no other attack types (bar tradebacks). The REALLY broken Psychic-Type is most definitely Mewtwo - it's not only stronger than any other Pokemon, it's stronger than any team not containing Mewtwo or Mew on its own.

  • @LightningLord2

Mewtwo was always Uber, even in Gen 1. Alakazam was top-tier in Gen I due to its ability to special wall and sweep. It may not have had other attack moves than Psychic, but it could stall pretty much any Special attacker with Recover (and even some physical Pokes with Reflect) then wither/annoy things to those things it couldn't simply Psychic (Toxic, T-Wave, Seismic Toss).

  • Why do you keep hating pika, true it's quite a bad pokemon but in pokemon yellow it's quite good

  • @Xapheion101

Not even in Yellow is it that good. Late-game, it simply becuase frail, powerless, and overall useless. Not to mention it seems to have a slow-learning EXP to level ratio which means other pre-evolved Pokemon outgrow it.

  • @TheKillerNacho I guess, but it's better in yellow then it is in red/bule

  • @Xapheion101

Being better than complete and utter crap isn't saying too much, is it? :P

  • @TheKillerNacho XD you sir make a compelling argument.

  • Awesome, once again :)

  • Is this post-commentary or are you talking while playing?

  • Will you catch a clefairy in Mt. Moon? :3

  • Since the beginning of time, I never bought any store items but repel and solo'd every game with my starter. Seeing people use more than one is just weird. You freak. D:

  • @Iced1992 how is it weird to use more than one pokemon? there's 6 slots and PC storage for a reason...

  • @Icyytouch Thank you, Captain Obvious.

  • @Iced1992

Haha, I hear you! My first time playing through Pokemon Red, I basically soloed the game with Charmander (well, most of the game it was Charizard).

  • @TheKillerNacho Fire starters all the way. :3 Disappointingly, they nearly always get fighting secondary. :(

  • @Iced1992 Soloing this game with a crappy pikachu is suicide O_O

  • @Iced1992: o, i didn't even think that was possible, i mean one gym leader, or elite 4 w/ pokemon th
