  • So i need fire blocks to make fire?!

  • As 0428733 said:

Half slabs of any type will not burn (even WOOD).

It also looks better if you use dark blocks for the interior back wall of the fireplace like obsidian.

  • half slabs are non flammable.

  • chimneyswift11 fanboy?????

  • @TheForeverFailing what are u talking about? Dan and Chimneyswift have been friends for a long time!

  • what gun mod???

  • OMG this is the lesson about fire i needed to learn for the 1,5 years i play minecraft....

i burned so much things because i didnt know this!!!!! many thx!!!

  • nerdgasms

  • Another good use of the fireplace is to hide your furnace behind the fire in your fireplace. Then, since you can right click through fire, it would be as if you were cooking stuff in your fireplace.

  • @Otherones5 love it

  • A really good idea is to make your floor out of double stacked halfsteps of wood. wooden halfsteps and wooden stairs dont burn

  • Fire will not spread to any flammable block if the fire is on netherrack no matter what you do! You can place netherrack and a log right next to each other with no protection then light the nether rack and the log won't light!

  • I knew it! me and my friend built an awesome wood house and we added a fireplace but then later once he left i went upstairs and the house was on fire! he blamed me for all of it cuz i had flint and steel.

  • if you have a wood house and you dont want it to catch on fire, just use wooden slabs instead of wooden blocks. The slabs wont catch on fire

  • i love the fireplace at 6:06

  • You sound irish!

  • @nininhahahuh he's french

  • @d3monkill3rz I know I just think he sounds irish do you not i can hear a french accent at times but also i hear an irish accent to might just be me...:/

  • chimneyswift lol

  • lol i love the fireplaces and my houses are always stone so i dont have to worry about burning it down. Just gotta worry about little siblings deciding to go on and deleting the world...

  • how did you get those half block wool pieces??? for the couch later in this episode.

  • @BTSbAR They're full wool block pieces. The half step hides half the wool block :3

  • @goddessofra88 oh... haha thats embarassing... thanks

  • I'm grammatically OCD. Fire spreading badLY! Sorry.

  • @maxyderm English isn't his first language and tbh his english his much better than a lot of native english speakers so lay off. I'm sure you have more important things to crib about

  • whats the mod?

  • Well, instead of woodblocks, use two halfsteps

  • the first fireplace looks like a penis

  • @MrTolson6 I don't know how many warnings I put in the video about fire and houses... Said to Save, said to test it first and said to be really careful. I didn't burn your house, but since fire got nerf, you can fix it if it happens. We can always come back and build some more can we? :D

  • Outro bout made me die of laughter.

  • @MBPLetsplays :D One of my favorites

  • @DurandalOfAegis @6:10 thats one SEXY! fireplace!

  • <3

  • I was surprised that you didn't put anything in the fireplace to stop it from spreading. Such as glass or fences.

  • Lol you are awesome :)

  • Since the nerf fire is easy to control, most I did was burn my wool carpet back when It was unerfed, small room, wasn't hard to replace, made a break between rooms. Nice to have the rules for specifics though

  • Everytime that i watch ur vid i say (in the vids start)

    Minecraft home desing !!!

  • just make the floor and wall near your fireplace out of double halfstep

  • fire got nerfed

so ye you can make a fireplace in a wooden house easely

  • I sooooo love Luclins voice at the beginning! :D

  • This was a really great episode. Liked how you showed how fire works, because that helps me at lot when making stuff like this

  • what do you make the tables from?

  • Dan u are an awesome builder how did u get to be able to build so well cause i wanna be able to create some pretty aweosme custom maps but i don't know how to build very good things? Please reply!!

  • @lyricman371 I don't know, I just add stuff and look back to see if it's good. :S

  • I think that your title format should be: "Minecraft Home Design: [TOPIC]" Then people can easily refer to which videos they need. Don't you agree? I dunno, just a suggestion.

  • What ya gonna do when minecraft updates?

OMG IT LOOKS SO GOOD! CHECK OUT MINECRAFT CHICK'S PREVIEW VIDEO!

U shoulda brung chim in too help with chimney building

  • you can aslo use wooden halfsteps they are counted as stone and don't burn

  • @bkg360 until notch fix it and then its Whammmm everyone's home is burning lo :D

  • How/where did you get the flat map? _-D1-_

  • @dogmaster48 you can download flat maps or you can use a map editing software such as mcedit

  • Nice ;)

  • @seamedranger No problem! :D

  • I'll never use a fireplace with real fire again. It burned down twice. And there weren't even any combustable materials close, the fire spread to a wool block 7 blocks away and spread from there. And the fire was even closed in. But in another place I have wool right next lava, and that doesn't burn.

  • @1a2b3c4d5e2427 You can do a fireplace without putting fire in it, still pretty good looking.

  • @DurandalOfAegis Now I only use the "scaredy-cat" version of it, if I build with combustable materials close.

  • @1a2b3c4d5e2427 What was the ceiling made of?

  • @DurandalOfAegis I think it was wool, but the fire was almost 7 blocks away from the roof.

  • @1a2b3c4d5e2427 Fire will go up really high, its a lot safer to make a ceiling out of something that cant burn.

  • @DurandalOfAegis Must've been that. but the fire was completly inclosed in stone, with only a glass window at the front. I'll try to build these in my upcomming mountain house when 1.8 comes out (it'll be inspired by your designs). :)

  • love the videos bud!! but 1 thing i think you should have done is the very first thing ppl do, the thing thats gotta come before any1 even thinks about doors and windows or anything and thats the shape of the house!

  • @go2hell2004 You know when I build a home from A to Z people just want to either copy or get the save file. By doing some little things here and there, they use their own homes and add stuff to it. That is my goal. I want people to have fun designing their home, not just copying or downloading what I have done.

  • @DurandalOfAegis thats a good point, i see what your saying, ur giving tips to improove what ppl already have rather than basically building the whole house for them right lol anyway great vids bud, subbed to ya yesturday, about to watch ep. 7 now. oh i was gunna ask ya.. habs fan? lol

  • This series is brilliant. :3

  • @paceetrate Thanks man!

  • @paceetrate :P

  • LOL! Laughed so hard at the outtro! xD

  • @2Siblings :D

  • noo.. Its 'Dude wheres your d1ck!' Jk.

  • I love the symbol _-D1-_ :D

  • @Dustinknight123 Sweet!

  • next video can u make "how to make-chairs,couches and beds(not real beds )just decoration) if you can that would be very much apresheated thanks :)

  • @carter10paul10 Chairs, couches are kinda done in ep.01

  • how bout a kennel attached to your home for all your wolves or in your case jack!

  • @bobwert5 We'll see about that :D

  • can you please do a episode on stairs? i always just have a small stairway up and it feels boring

  • @mastercheif898 Hum the thing with stairs is that almost anything goes. Shapes are different for every home, we'll see how we can work on that on a future episode.

  • @DurandalOfAegis Dining rooms and i mean dining rooms with piston table

  • @DurandalOfAegis Hey dan i made a piston dining room with red wool around it and I can say that it is pretty sweet i'd would love if u would do an episode on dinging rooms

  • @unknownxman1 We'll do :D

  • Thanks Dan!

  • @Matt82795 Np :D

  • well another good way to have a wooden fireplace is using wooden half-steps cuz they look like wood but they dont burn ;)

  • @Talmezh Please watch out for that. Notch said they would burn like any other wood in an future update. Thats why I didnt use it

  • Thanks Dan! I love that last one; I'll have to try something like that in my next mansion. By the way, could you please do an episode on lighting? I have pretty typical streetlights, table lamps, embedded lighting, etc, but I feel like I've run out of inspiration. Naturally, I turn to your expertise :D

  • @Jayke002 Next episode :D

  • can make a vid on different ways of lighting homes? just placing torches around is plain.

  • Dan, were you tired during this video?

  • @KooGuH69 Yes, alot.

  • do we get a world download when you finish the series?

  • @babbies321 Maybe :D

  • @DurandalOfAegis Hopefully XD

  • I wish the one at 6:40 was in my redstone base which I'm building

  • hey dan can i pm you my fireplace design

  • @gavin456b Sure

  • Dan Smokey the bear fire instructor!

  • @Spinn0rz haha :D

  • My OCD needs were not fulfilled with that last fireplace ;) (bookcases were not the same on both sides).

  • @SolidifiedGaming Yeah I was suppose to tell you to choose which one you prefer. I forgot about it XD

  • At the last episode you should build t big house useing all the thing you sowed us :)

  • @GreatrpMr Probably will!

  • Can't really say, I just followed the instructions on the Forum and it worked... :S

  • how did you get the gun mod because when ever i try to install it it says it needs to be updated

  • Also if you have a 2nd story or more it will burn because the smoke will ignite it!

  • @surajp931 Not if you leave 5 spaces and put your ceiling at the 6th block. I will show it to you guys tomorrow maybe before doing the lights.

  • where did you get that guns in 2:58?

  • @1997benny WWII mod

  • @DurandalOfAegis thanks. keep up the good work

  • Thats why i use wooden slabs instead of wooden planks

  • @PhilThePenguin Please watch out for that. Notch said they would burn like any other wood in an future update. Thats why I didnt use it.

  • @DurandalOfAegis will do, thanks for the info :D

  • Wooden Half-blocks don't burn. (I think) So just make half blocks around a fire!

  • @TheEliteMoose Please watch out for that. Notch said they would burn like any other wood in an future update. Thats why I didnt use it.

  • You are good! Keep up the great work!

  • @gronkifronk Thanks!

  • Its great how you find out where/how the burn, like the distances the burn other wood. That's really a great job done.

  • @iSquishyx3 Also directly above the fire, leave 5 spaces before putting your ceiling on the 6th block. Or else it will burn...

  • @DurandalOfAegis Thanks, I'm glad I haven't done the fireplace yet. Great to see this daily, keep up the good work Dan!

  • I tried a lava fireplace once, burned down the whole forest of our server D;

  • @tonioedge :(

  • Very informative and should take away some of the fear people have about using fire in their homes. Nice work Dan.

  • @TheMindfiend As long as you do a backup before adding it, you should be fine :D

  • Awesome vid, Dan, so helpful! I've been wanting to put fireplaces in my homes, but have been too scared to. lol Now that I know how to do it right, its gonna be great! Thanks! You know, this episode reminds me of Chim's hot tub episode, in his season 1 of the MC Files... Do you know the one that I'm talking about? If so, do you know why his wool canopy, many blocks above it, kept burning?

  • @shillanna Yeah I remember that. Leave 5 blocks empty and build the ceiling on the 6th block of height. I'll show you guys tomorrow. :)

  • tell minecraftFTW to watch this vid everyone

  • Notch should make it so that you can choose what painting you get when you place it!

  • @Decratice Yeah lol

  • @ThePath21 We will!

  • @durandalofaegis Hmmm, yeah, I recall that wooden ceiling was 3 or 4 blocks above the fire, not 5... Thx

  • Dan, no offence but are you a little sick... or are you just tired?

  • @DanielFreyr22 Tired, alot.

  • @DurandalOfAegis you should get some sleep then sir D:

  • @MasterChris725 Cant its LLN tonight, then work then 2 other episodes... lol

  • Dan can you show us how to make some piston things? like lights that tur off and other stuff like that

  • @LjEoUnNaGt We will see about light in the next episode.

  • @DurandalOfAegis yay ^^

  • can you do a episode on walls?

  • @1stsilentkiller Already done one :D

  • @DurandalOfAegis oh sorry i guess i missed it :(

  • i just subed to your channel today :) love your LP and this series

  • @LinoLMD Thanks Lino!

  • couldn't you just use wooden half slabs instead of wooden planks?

  • @MasterChris725 I didnt want to use a trick since Notch said it would be fix eventually. And people using that trick will have some trouble later. :)

  • @DurandalOfAegis I hope he doesn't fix it anytime soon, I love the fact that they don't catch on fire :D it makes things so much more simple.

  • Lol, the plural of block, is blocks. Please say blocks, it makes me cringe when u don't lol, but otherwise, your accent is really cool :P

  • Another neat thing you can do is put furnaces behind the fire to make it look like you're cooking food in the fireplace. I guess it can also be used to save a little space as well.

  • @Donomanzw Love the idea!

  • My first fireplace was in a treehouse, bad move.

  • @ChrisS1mp Haha

  • I want an electric fire.... :P lol

  • At what distance must be the ceiling? My fireplace burn my wooden house from the ceiling.

  • @khalyeleytr 5 block of empty space at least (if the fire is direct under the ceiling.) Its always better to make your ceiling in something else than wood if possible.

  • goo dpoint dan, that's y i'd use a stone floor instead =)

  • @DurandalOfAegis you should try and get a partner ship

  • @WeedazaHD I have :D

  • you should make the house! And make so people can download it... So we get ideas!

  • Dan you sound diffrently has something happend?

  • @gameismyname1 Tired lol

  • I remember my first fireplace. I had built a cafe to store all my food in for me and friends and put a nice lil fireplace in it to look good and before i knew it there was fire all around me and two of my friends appeared with buckets of water to try to help stop it. Ahhh those were the noob days haha. I really like the big fireplace design. I can't wait to see you do kitchens

  • did you get a new mic... just curious

  • @mrjackarito Nah Im just tired, thats why I sound different ;)

  • Put a wood ceiling above the fire though and then watch the fire will spread to the ceiling
