Thanks for the demo. I do have some questions if you don't mind. I have a Thermaltake HTPC case which comes with a remote that has a mouse built into it. If I install mythbuntu instead of xp (which is currently on it) how will i get the drivers to use the remote? Same with my pinnacle tv tuner card? Also I noticed that that said just play cd and play dvd and I have a bd/hddvd combo drive do you know if that is supported?
Does myth tv really work? I downloaded the latest and then it asked me to pick one of the 4 supported cards from a drop down menu. Mine wasn't listed. It was listed on their home page with about a jillion other cards, but in the actual program, it wasn't in there and it didn't work. I'm going to have to install XP and find a media center program somewhere.

@experimental0000 Love it, but limited functionality for me. Graphically, XBMC is far superior to Mythbuntu. (Honestly, I ditched the HTPC and just use WD TV Live Plus to watch movies through my home theater. I record with a DVR from the cable company.)
@Xsoldier2000 that set top box looked/sounded pretty cool and I'm glad it works for you. been hearing alot of negative reviews of the Plus model being glitchy and crashing quite a bit and 'being better off with the Live model instead of the Plus" and some talking about hacks to make the Live model do Netflix and such.
@experimental0000 No I am not familiar with that one. I tried for a month to get things working. The latest ubuntu with Myth seemed the best, but despite my best efforts, I never got the thing to work properly. I got the tuner to work properly, but the sticking point was the HDMI audio. Finally, I gave up and wiped the drive and installed Win 7 MCE, Its everything I wanted and the install was effortless.
Mythbuntu is more like an operating system for a HTPC. It is MythTV built into a lite Ubuntu operating system. Compare MythTV to Windows Media Center, but it is the center stage of the operating system. While you can use it as a normal desktop, Mythbuntu is really made for a separate HTPC. You might be better off installing Ubuntu (which includes Word Processing, Internet Browsing...) and installing something like XBMC if your main purpose is to use your computer as a normal computer.
@michillin212 Try Linux Mint, or PinguyOS...both slight variances of Ubuntu....better than Ubuntu. I switch all the time between like 6 different distros.
@Xsoldier2000 it'd work great for a HTPC that might see the seldom pc use when it's not the media hub to watch stuff. maybe even a good front and backend for a home media server to record with and either another mythbuntu or other linux disro htpc with the mythtv front end only to watch it from
Yes, there are internet radio and tv stations from around the world. I don't believe winamp radio (shoutcast) is part of it. There may be a plug-in for this?
I did try MCE, but I found Mythbuntu ready out of the box. I didn't have to do much configuring. With LinuxMCE, it didn't recognize my video card right, I also had to black list my internal sound card to be able to use my external Live! Audiology card. LinuxMCE was more of a pain for me. Good Luck!
Hi, i'm interested in installing mythbuntu on my pc media center too, just wondering, was it easy to install drivers for tv tuner, and what format does it record to? is it a ms windows compatible formatted video?
Does myth tv support blu ray? And can i record cable?

So what does mythbuntu actually do? Like can it be used as a normal desktop (Word Processing, Internet Browsing, ETC.?)

Thank you. I have ubuntu but am getting bored with it so was considering trying the other versions of it or a new distro.
