Of course some people will say that illness is sometimes Gods will. How come Jesus never told us that? Most people don’t really believe that anyway. Every time somebody’s told me that, they go off to a doctor. If they really believed their illness was God’s will they would never go to a doctor.

I can't believe this. Joel Olsteen is so blessed by God that when he preaches I can feel the Holy Spirit touch me from 100's of miles away over a t.v. broadcast. I appreciate the passion for what you believe, but it could be better directed toward non-believers. My sister attends Lakewood and sings in the choir. She is blessed by the church and is a very strong Christian. I am not called to be there but attend a fellowship with a different message......but same savior. Romans 3:23 is always read without finishing it. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God being justified freely through the redemption in Christ.” We need to read onto that 24th verse. Out of thousands of people in his church, there are lots saved and for those that aren't, there's an open invitation. Even in his books, there's an invitation to salvation. You can't build the kingdom by instilling fear. God wants your love, not obedience out of being afraid. That is not true love, it is forced. The people "saved" like this, don't understand the true God.

He certainly has a 1st Amendment right to preach as he sees fit, and should if that is his calling. I frankly don't see Joel as that bad, as his ideas can be used in any aspect of our lives, including drawing closer to God through prayer. Even Joel won't claim to be the be-all-and-end-all, but instead is more like the beginning step, giving people the confidence TO draw close to God without fear of rejection. From there, they can proceed as they choose.

I can't believe this. Joel Olsteen is so blessed by God that when he preaches I can feel the Holy Spirit touch me from 100's of miles away over a t.v. broadcast. She is blessed by the church and is a very strong Christian. I am not called to be there but attend a fellowship with a different message......but same savior. Though our churches may be a little different, we should be careful about what we say about each other. Our attention should be directed toward a lost world (i.e., Lakewood is not lost).

Since it has been proven that Joel skips things like God's wrath, the need of repentance, and the subsitutionary atonement of Christ's death, you cannot claim "God permeates the church." Doctrine matters. What a person teaches is important.

Joel skips what you mentioned because he addresses his sermons to Christians, who already are quite familiar with repentance, atonement etc. Which doctrine matters? There are a million of them. Theological arguments without end. Joel teaches Christian living, that is what is important.

I heard Victoria talk about a Muslim and Atheist couple she met after church who were grateful to have Lakewood because they couldn't find any other place to worship together. HAHAHA. I attended Lakewood for over a decade and I know Joel and I knew his dad. You're so ignorant, it's sad.
Joel isn't the only minister at Lakewood and there's far more to it than what you see on TV. When John got the baptism in the Holy Spirit, he started hearing and obeying God and preached and taught the Gospel with love and grace.
You're very misguided, friend. You need to focus on your relationship with God. It's really quite poor and though you'd never admit that here, it's obvious.

@BludBaut Without the law, there is no Gospel. You cannot claim you love people and not tell them the whole truth, as Joel refuses to do. My relationship with God is quite great, but you do not seem to have one as evidenced by your fruit. Phil 1 tells us that true believers rejoice when the Gospel is preached, even out of contention. As you condemn, instead of rejoice, it is obvious you don't have a relationship.

He's got a "right" but ineffective message because he doesn't know how to hear God. He's just giving it to the wrong people, but even to the right people, he would see little results because he doesn't know how to HEAR God.
