I think SEGA really thought of that when made that little short, because in sonic unleashed those ghost appear in town missions and if you clear all you in a trophy called " I ain"t afraid of no ghost". I always liked that little tribute.

They are not in the actual game. They are all from a promotional video Sega made. If you look up sonic, night of the werehog you can find it on youtube. Or you could download it from the Japanese PSN store if you have an account.
