  • Mitzi Gaynor...beautiful, sexy, feminine, soft, great dancer with fluid sensuous moves and a great sense of rhythm. One of the true greats. A relatively short woman who somehow looked like she had long legs.

  • FAB!

  • i'm not homophobic, but could they not find any straght male dancers,or at least, guys that looked hetero, when they danced?! the esthetic of this, is just so goofy, with these flamey-foppy dudes, prancing around, with silly, christopher street grins on their faces. all this, next to super hot, mitzie gaynor. i mean,c'mon now?!

  • @brainsareus Newsflash: You *are* homophobic. Using words like flamey and "silly Christopher Street grins" etc as disparaging equals homophobia. As far as prancing, the choreographer has to take the rap for that. They could have had Joe Namath, Muhammad Ali, Roberto Clemente and Wilt Chamberlain surrounding Mitzi, but with that choreography they would have looked effeminate too. It's 1967 broadway type, Fosse-inspired choreography. Even though it looks like Fosse on SPEED, I kinda like it.

  • Got to love that sixties choreography.

  • I read that when GAYNOR performed this song & dance

at the Academy Awards in 1967 that there was so much

applause that it damn near brought the house down.

  • In THE BLOODHOUNDS OF BROADWAY, Mitzy Gaynor did a FABULOUS, RIP-

ROARING dance routine around the table with a little girl. The movie itself is one big long boring piece of shite .... but that dance routine was SOMETHING!!! Has anyone got it? Can we see it on You Tube? PLEASE???

  • Amazing what passed for a show-stopping musical number on TV 44 years ago. But when the playing field is defined by Lawrence Welk, Andy Williams, the King Family Singers, and performers lipsinching on Ed Sullivan, I guess it's easy to see why.

  • For years I've been hearing about this. That is was so great and that there was a standing ovation that went on for minutes. Huh? I don't see any standing ovation here. And musically? It's campy, badly filmed, and I can think of at least 10 better musical performances that I've seen on the Oscars. I just don't get the hype.

  • @TheTerryE Its fun!

  • A wonderfully talented woman. They broke the mould....

  • Awesome performance! Mitzi rocks this....!

  • I just enjoy watching the multi talented Mitzi Gaynor performing

  • Brilliant. That is sooo 60's it's like Austin Powers. A real class act.

  • I checked - they are still applauding

  • I have watched the Academy Awards for over 55 years, and Mitzi in this performance performed the best of anyone for a song nominated for an Academy Award!!!!!

  • i heard the applause went on and on they had to break for commercial.

  • sexy and classy... u don't get that anymore

  • When the dancer is trying to help Mitzi take her coat dress off-it looks a bit like a 1960s "wardrobe malfunction"-only with class.

  • Just goes to show you how sexy a mature woman is...Mitzi totally kicks ass!

  • I have often wondered what Mitzi Gaynor was like after South Pacific...well...I would never have guessed what a dynamic, energetic, powerhouse singer/dancer she continued to be! Thanks for posting this. Great song, great artiste, camp as hell and a lot of fun!

  • Oh my gay stars! What was the choreographer on? I have never seen such frantic choreography!

  • @vcaus check out Turkey Lurkey Time from promises promises if you want to see some frantic dancing. So much better than the crap today.

  • I saw her live when was a kid. She put on a great show. Good singer, fantastic dancer, and funny, too. Met her and got her autograph afterwards.

  • I absolutely love her!

  • Thank you for posting this legendary performance!

Mitzi was the complete package -- singer, dancer, actress -- and all in top form.

Keep in mind that this is a live, one-time performance and notice her precision and total commitment. She lights up the stage in a way that few ever have.

  • gutsy!

  • Gloriously awful!

  • SUPERSTAR!

  • Wow! Totally amazing. What an under-rated performer she was. I believe she stopped the show with this.

  • OMG! The Seekers this is not. But for the Academy Awards it looks good. Peppy and seductive. The only thing missing from this clip is a striped pole for Mitzi to dance with. Just remember the era - the gaudy 60's. Fine job, I'm sure this helped boost the ratings.

  • OMG! This isn't the Seekers by a LONG shot. You have to remember the era and the fact that it was the Academy Awards of the gawdy '60's. The only thing missing from parts of the clip is the striped pole for Mitzi to dance with/on. ;)

  • I also have a deep abhorrence for lip synching...not so bad here cuz Mitzi is fun to watch. It was really disappointing at the Olympics tho. I think Neil Young must have been live because he's so authentic and his voice sounded pretty rough...god bless him, Canada's treasure.

  • @franzy1 I thinks she's only lip synching to the dance part of it. The end sounds like it's live, and you can hear her hand claps.

  • Yeah, Mitzi nailed it, but c'mon...the song is great anyway. Too bad they stopped WRITING great songs. If they still wrote songs this good, you'd find the entertainers singing them would be good too.

  • when you add it all up Mitzi is America's greatest female entertainer

  • I HEARTILY agree codyki! I LOVE Mitzi!

  • DEAR GOD! If this isn't the most fantastic thing ever committed to celluloid then I'd sure as hell like to know what is!?

  • @codyki I AGREE!!!!

  • @codyki Ozu "Early Summer" comes to mind...

  • Excellent. They just don't make entertainers like this anymore. The Academy Awards have falling viewing figures, but if they had honest entertainment of this quality more people would watch.

  • @niborantable That and the fact that there's so many 'award' shows now that it lessened the prestige of the ACADEMY AWARDS.

  • holds the record for the longest ovation of a live performance in academy history go mitzi

  • Also her nightclub acts in Vegas too :) She's amazing!

  • If memory serves me correctly, it was this very performance that led to her legendary CBS specials.

  • Beyond Fabulous.

  • Groovy Baby

  • Love it when she looks over her glasses at :42.

  • One of the best!

  • Thanks for posting this. It's great. I saw Mitzi Gaynor's stage show three times over the years and she is a wonderful entertainer.

  • How did you get this video? Do you have more from the Academy Awards?

  • Found the clip online, sorry but i don't have anymore from The Academy Awards.

  • @cmcb09

Thanks so much for posting this!!! It's just fantastically awful and awfully fantastic, just a load of fun!!! Where are the sixties when we need them?
