  • I do not agree that the problem is how you ACT. The problem is how you SUFFER.

  • @JeanKM1 I like this comment...can you elaborate on this a little bit?

  • @numshine9 With bipolar, you SUFFER from hopelessness, despair, nausea, the pain of rage, extreme panic, muscle pain, anguish, anxiety, fear of people, desperation and more. Nonetheless, you may ACT anywhere on a scale from "not nice" to "nice". People think the purpose of drugs and treatment is improving the way you ACT from "not nice" to "nice". Understandingly, others say "You don't need drugs and treatment to be nice." cont.....

  • @numshine9 cont.... part 2... And the patient says "I don't care what you say! I have a perfect right to be 'not nice' and I'm not taking your drugs and treatment just so I can be nice to you!" And all of that is, to some extent, true. But it is beside the point. You use the drugs and therapy to relieve the SUFFERING from symptoms of hopelessness, pain and panic, and so forth. That IS the point. (And as a bonus you may even start to act a little nicer.)

  • The whole "chemical imbalance" and "lack of insight" theories are crimes against humanity. Of course, chemical imbalance which needs chemical cure creates much more capital flow than helping people to live their lifes in a way they want to (however concomformist it might be...). I wish bipolars were taught how to make the best with their condition...

I think it possible to learn to master our emotions and not to be ruled about our emotions, but instead rise above them.

  • I talk to God. He's my best bud. He keeps me going until the haters bring be back down with their drugs and negativity. Such is there much need to reserach the use of THC for medicinal useage, as there is the need to research the correlation between religion and euphoric mania. Imo, pure faith and clarity in your own religious mindset can erradicate the jostling uneveness that is BD/MD. I don't just travel Up and Down, I also travel Left, Right. Move In and Out, Forwards and Backwards. I am.

  • I'm going the medication route. And I've had a long time since I've been manic, maybe 15 years.I'm a songwriter and have written over 2,000 songs. Tom is great. He keeps balance really well. Its a tightrope and he's a tightrope runner.I really like these videos. Her's to you Tom. I am living a great life- you're right, one can. And I bet a lot more can because of these videos. There is a reason for youtube!!

  • I 'accepted' what I am ... gave up teaching, moved to the seaside and now live in my own world. It is a fabulous life :) The muse comes with the spring and it does not matter if I stay up painting or writing and do not sleep. I can wear beautiful clothes without judgement and spread fairy dust where I move; when it darkens I can curl up without intervention. I love my insanity!

  • Take care and get well soon. My best friend has this. She wrote a book and is doing well. I am proud of her. We grew up together.

  • many of the severe cases like many of us are smarter and can do better. VanGogh is a good example of my point.

This is modernized fascism, we used to be committed and the people that are out to help us are offering a Nazi Germany life over being locked up and I am crazy in a world that tolerates human rights violations and defend genocides around the world.

I agree with your approach because my voices in my paranoid mixed states gave me lessons on being a human and helped me grow more.

  • Go in the grocery store and tell me how many fat unhappy people you see. Do these look like Happy people are involved in the American process? I see a bunch of people every time in the grocery store with their fat ass in a cart buying Pepsis Cookies chips. These are not happy people there depressed.

  • Im not sure in a country where %25 of the people are mentally ill we can just pretend everything is fine and go on as things are normal. At some point we have to address the causes of mental illness and start dealing with real monetary and political issues. We also have to talk about and get help for our personal issues.

  • websuspect-the numbers are greatly inflated. Being emotionally disturbed is not an illness; it is a reaction. Our emotions tell us there is something wrong in our lives just as much as physical pain tells us something is wrong. I would agree that it is important to talk about and learn how to deal with the issues in our lives.

  • There not inflated look at how the general public is acting. Look at the people at the grocery store.

  • websuspect- How is the general public acting?

  • I totlallu agree,,,i am bipolar 1 then diagjoded with shetzo affective disorder,,i get fronfused@

  • I think Robin Williams is a good example of BipolarAdvantage...he would not be called "mentally ill" because he is a very successful method actor

  • Tom Wootton has constructed a unique perspective of bipolar/clinical depression. His view is unique primarily because it helps us look at the positive aspects of being bipolar/clinically depressed. We don't need to be "healed", we need to embrace our extra-sensory powers. In doing this, we can live a fully productive life.
