Apple is popular because they have fine grain control over the hardware and software to make sure everything works fluently. Linux is great for people who like to tinker and modify things.

What makes Mac popular is that Apple controls the software and the hardware that goes into their product, so they can make sure that the code is fluent with the hardware, and all the required drivers are installed before it ships to the end user. Linux is awesome for people that love to tinker with things.

its cool becuase you can play super mario 64 on it and watch it crash into the most stupidest blue in the motherfucking world and the best thing is you can drop kick it and it will NOT work anymore YAY FOR LINUX
OK it has a very interesting Graphical User Interface (GUI) but what use is it? Show me the bells and whistles after you show me the power of its operating system, that is if it is a powerful system. I don't know very much about Linux. Watching this, I still don't.
It's seems to be a really flash and distracting type writer that can do 360's?
I don't see any possible uses for any of the features exhibited here? As I have never used Linux before I admit I can't put it down but I find Mac is a waste of time and stick to PC. What does Linux have that PC doesn't and vice versa?
I exited my rhythmbox from the top panel at the top right by the clock, and my evolution mail and sound icons disappeared and never reappear even if I restart computer. Any ideas?
It is definitly not Graphics shit. It's the kernel. It's like everything is a file. Every single tool that is opensource and you can get it for free makes it wonderful.
@TheDisturbedOne752 You certainly are not a power user and are viewing it only from you own perspective. Every OS has its strongness and weakness. I like XP for gaming, OSX for its sleek design, Linux for its hardware compatibility. I don't like XP for its old fashioned look and feel (even Win7), OSX for its hardware lockin and Linux for its neverending need for tweaking. And, seriously, 'seriously' is not a strong argument.
In the what I like to call "OSR" or Operating System Wars, Linux is outta the question. I mean seriously, Mac is great for fun stuff like apps and stuff. While PC is for business (and gaming, I game all the time on a PC and it runs as smooth as butter). Basically what I'm saying is that Mac and PC specialize in their own things. However, Linux just as fair graphics to be proud of. So in this OCR Linux is totally out of the question.
Exactly. If you want to play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on OpenSUSE, or any other linux OS, you need wine to run Windows applications. I, myself, am about to burn the OpenSUSE 11.1 64bit GNOME cd, and install it on my second partition on my 80GB HDD, and CoD4 on my second partition of my 160GB HDD.

I installed the OS and the emerald package (all of it...I think), wine, and the nVidia graphics drivers
plus, the .ymp is for the YaST (Yet another Setup Tool) for SUSE.
OS Inatalled: latest: 64 bit :)
How can I run CoD4 and others on a 64 bit system? Wine? Thanks.

do you play game in linux??
paaachok89 3 years ago
Nope, neither in Vista. Use XBox, PS3 or Wii instead, those are better in that ;-)

You can play nearly all opengl Games on Linux.
But thats it.
(some need wine but they run fine)

@paaachok89 If you install PlayOnLinux it will make sure that the right configuration is set up for most popular games.

Yes, it's part of the main reposotory.
